Massive, massive props to Zverev. Fair, honest comments about a match that meant the world to him but where, by his own admission, he faced a better opponent. Not easy to be this balanced and objective after such an intense emotional rollercoaster. You’ll find your way and you will lift one of those ‘heavy’ trophies one day. I feel heartbroken for him, but I believe he will have a chance at Roland Garros this year. He always performs his best at the French Open, and it’s clear that he has improved himself a lot this year. One thing he should always be remembered for is that, even though he’s not a Grand Slam title holder, he is an Olympic gold medalist - an achievement that not many players in his career have managed to accomplish. This is because the Olympics only come around every four years, and an athlete typically has only 2-4 chances in their entire career.

He has become a new person and a different player to me-more humble and unafraid to be vulnerable about his self-image. It really suits him. Throughout his career, I’ve been at the forefront of Zverev critics, finding him arrogant and unlikable. I remember when he was 22, tennis legends advised him to be patient, saying his time would come to win Grand Slams. He replied, “I’m sick of waiting. I can win now, and I will.” A few months ago, he admitted he now feels ready to take the step to win a Slam, acknowledging that he wasn’t mature enough as a person before. Zverev is becoming someone I genuinely like, and I truly hope he wins a Slam.
@paulshrubb273418 сағат бұрын
The difference is mental not physical. Having won 2 slams already gives Sinner immense confidence, that's the difference. It's a catch 22, that's why it's so difficult to get the first one against someone who has already overcome that obstacle. Keep persevering, you will get him on an off-day and that will be enough to win over him. I think you're physically on the same level, it's just mental at this point. Many players with inferior physical talents have beaten superior players simply with mental toughness, Ferrer, Davidenko, Nalbandian etc.
@JohnWick-zl5oc14 сағат бұрын
i agree.. Zverev main issue isn't skill or effort or stamina, its not physical its the mental part he is weak there, he fails to win the big points to often if big matches like this one,he keeps losing matches that are close, he does not have the "killer instinct" of Nadal or Federers super mental ability to overcome previous defeats and bad games, he seem to get shaken by failures & mistakes in matches ,games and the past to much, he need to turn his mind into steel, harden it to be at the peak at the right time at the big points.

Sinner is in a class by himself right now. His movement and aggressive ground strokes are similar to Feds. His serve is getting better. If he could play more attacking tennis, shorten the points and play with more variety, it would be better for his career.

Alex being very gracious here in responding to the questioning, especially in a dark hour. It's just an opinion, but some of these journalists should spend more time watching, analyzing, and getting into tennis - the story, the ups and downs, the preparation, than in the social media hype drip. This isn't the time to be asking about how Alex would react to (or maybe even hope for) Jannik's potential ban. Even Jannik felt bad for him

These journalists are evil vultures. They could care less about the players or the game

Gran signore Zverev nelle dichiarazioni.

This was so heartbreaking to watch. He maintained amazing composure but until he deals with mental demons won’t be able to win. I hope he gets the help he needs to become confident enough to win.

The funny thing is, that he says he served better than Sinner. But not even that is true😂

Thats sports for you it will make you humble and push you to the rock bottom and crash you, but the same time gives you a chance to have the glory one day ...... I personally feel for Sasha (so I am) he is a better player, and this loss will shape him good it's only small adjustments in his technique and more mental strengths will take him see new heights I wish him to get 4-5 trophies before his retirement.

An honest and revealing interview. However I don't believe there is such a clear difference in ability between Sasha and Sinner. I think the most important difference is just "mental"--the ability to keep the level necessary to win regardless of what is happening at the moment on the court. I think the emphasis Sasha places on the difference in technical ability indicates the difference in mental resilience.

Tennis has got its new gen djokovic and Nadal again. Alcaraz has got all the power, show and muscles of Nadal and even tasted success before Sinner(just like Nadal), but its actually Sinner who's being djokovic's replacement being consistent, flexible and incredible. Alcaraz= fan fav and show(like fedal) Sinner= actual successor of GOAT

Not so fast, Alcaraz is changing before our eyes and he has many more weapons plus the ability to hit any shot. plus unlike toni nadal he has a much better voach. you will see, he is not jannik but he will change for the better.

There’s a small problem with your logic. Neither Roger’s not Rafa’s game styles can be replicated or emulated in any way. ND’s style is easier to copy (mind you, I’m not saying “to execute as successfully and consistently”),there’s why most players now basically are ND 2.0. Hitting the lines, left,right, to the exhaustion of the opponent or till the opponent is force to an error, and hitting as strong as possible. I also honestly doubt Alcaraz is so much more a fan favourite than Sinner. And none of us can really know what will happen. It takes a rare breed to end your career with 20,22 and 24 (or quite possibly more) GS titles. You do a great disservice to Fedal to reduce their careers and games to power and show; just as you do to ND to reduce it to numbers. Regardless of anyone’s favourite among the big three I would encourage everyone to refrain from any unwarranted comparison. I am Italian and I am super impressed and happy and grateful for Sinner and his grace as a person. But we are always churning and hurrying to find the next GOAT, and we forget that the past 20 years have been a tremendous freak occurrence in sports history and we’ve been blessed to witness such rivalries. Now I understand the younger fans want to draw comparisons and are eager to declare the present champs even better than the past. It may very well even be the case. But it’s a tad early. Don’t give in to the hype. Don’t draw comparisons between apples and oranges. Sinner and Alcaraz are their own person. They don’t need to be the new ND,the New Federer, the new Nadal, the new nothing. They have enough personality to be them which is already plenty. BTW, I have never been a fan of AZ but I have to give him credit he showed a lot of growth in this interview. Not too long ago,he wouldn’t have been so objective or graceful after such a tough loss.
