This is a Singer 29 sewing machine, the Singer 29K 72 shoe patcher operating on a servo motor. I show the various features of this machine and show how adjustments affect it's behavior. I show how to load the bobbin with thread, load the bobbin into the case, load the case into the machine. I show how to thread the machine too. I operate this machine on a servo motor with a 45mm pulley with good results.
The needle - 29x3 cloth and 29x4 leather

I have a 1913 29-4. These are great machines. I will never sell this machine. I bought it 8 yrs ago from someone in ohio and it didnt have the treading rod to thread it. No shuttle, no spool pin. Had not been oiled in decades. I bought it for $300 + shipping. I had to sink more into it to get it like It was originally. Had to have one part custom made. I also bought a treadle for the machine. I was told its rare to get a 29 treadle by itself. It two was rusted. I had to have it sand blasted. Then took it to a paint and body shop that restored the paint to original singer paint epoxy. Everything has sewing machine oil and the inside has been degreesed and oiled. It a beautiful machine now. I run it with 2 rubber belt to give it strength to punch through leather. I will put this 29 against any commercial machine out there. Thanks for the video.

You lift the presser foot when darning and that releases the "normal" tensioner, that's why you need to use the one on the side of the head. That one is also commonly used for winding the bobbin, at least if you have the hand wheel and bobbin winder mounted on the front of the machine.

Thank you for this very informative video! I have had a 29-4 treadle model for 20 plus years and learned a lot from this video. I also just acquired a 29k-60 in it's original treadle configuration. These are great old machines. Iv'e used them for sewing patches on leather and installing zippers on jackets etc. These machines really out perform a normal household machine for doing heavier work.

The holes in the lubrication cup are for holding a felt pad in the cup. The thread rubs across the pad to get the lubrication. My 29K 73 still has the piece of felt sewn into the cup.

I owe you a serious thank you for this video. I purchased an Axis 2792B in Oct 2021 (my first sewing machine after years of hand sewing only) and I have not been able to figure it out since the manufacturers' videos are incomprehensible to me (not to mention having no audio or on-screen instructions lol). Your instructions are detailed and clear, and I now hove the confidence to have a go at this beast! Thanks so much:)

I have a 1936 29k71. It is the first machine that I named. I was made the year my mom was born, Cona Jean. I have had it for about 8 months and love it. I had to do some minor adjustments and it works great. What you call the darning discs is what I learned to use when I wind a bobbin. The one thing I am not aware of is the thread hole in the top of the bobbin pin I have not known about it. I will have to look at mine, but it has seen well without it. Great videos!
@postholedigger8726
@postholedigger8726 2 жыл бұрын
When the hand crank handle is in the front the tension plates in the front are used for winding bobbins. The front tensioner is also used when the oil cup needs to be bypassed. The cup lubricates the thread for sewing leather. The front tensioner is used to sew cloth. In that case you would not want to use thread soaked in oil. Without the front tensioner option you would have to clean out the oil cup to sew cloth. david

I own a 29k71 of around the same vintage as yours (Hammertone paint). SN tells me its from 1958. The Darning disks can be used to wind the bobbins if you have the wheel in the front (As Mine does). The front disks are used as they are adjusted for tension independently from the top disks. These machines are popular with cobblers and shoe repair shops. My grandfather had a shop from 1960ish to 1998ish and saved a few machines when he closed down. My dad and i both inherited a machine. i still have it on the original treadle stand but it was modified with an electric motor and clutch (Done crudely in the 70's). Great machines! Hard to find parts for them and needles are getting hard to find.
