For contact lens wearers - another reason not to line on your waterline is that the eyeliner will directly transfer as a giant blurry path on your lenses at some point and you won't be able to get it off 😂 I learned this lesson the hard way 🥲 At the root of your lashes as she shows here is truly the way!

Tightlining is a godsend makeup technique for people with hooded or droopy eyes. I use Sephora 12h colorful eye pencil to tightline and it stays all day. Once it sets, it doesn't smudge as well. And it's really cheap even without a sale.

Great tip!! Before I tight line I use a cotton swab and dry the tight line then add liner. It stays so much longer

I just wipe it dry with a clean finger and don't blink before I get the color on there. It does help to keep it from transferring to the lower waterline. ❤

Tightlining is a super power! Especially for hooded eyes, it was such a game changer for me! in India we always use Kajal/Kohl pencil, highly recommend them!

I watch a lot of makeup videos just for fun and less for tips because I often find tips and tricks don't work for me and I can find my own best way to work with my face. But THIS is the singular makeup tip that has been most helpful every single time I do my eye makeup now.

Alex, this video completely changed how I tightline. The GXVE eyeliner is amazing. I tried Clinique's and Urban Decay's tightlining pencils. Both flake horribly. You are the best!

WOW! I tried this this morning! I watched this last night, so I tried it this AM, I used UD 24/7 waterproof/ long lasting eye liner pencil & a flat defining brush from Luxie. THANK YOU! This trick/technique worked so well! My liner didn’t run at all, even thru a full day of work, and hot humid summer weather! Amazing technique! Thank you so much for sharing!

My favorite waterproof drugstore liner is Wet N Wild “breakup proof.” The one in the packaging where it’s a self sharpening and you twist it up. Don’t confuse it with the liquid!! It BURNS

Alex... Shiseido has this liner with the absolute tiniest little tip. Like smaller than the little brow pencils. It's so super creamy and absolutely budge proof! You might check it out...

The only eye pencil that I have found I can tight-line with without transfer (and without going over it with eyeshadow in hopes it would stay longer) is the Il Makiage long-wear intense pigment waterproof eye pencil ($22). Tight-lined with it one day and realized it had not smudged AT ALL to my waterline or bottom lashes and thought maybe it was a fluke. So I tested it out again, for a full day and a full evening out dancing and sure enough, it did not budge or transfer to my waterline. Creamy texture, intense color and long-lasting! Definitely recommend that one!💛

Okay, I tried this today and...SUCCESS! I'm so happy. I used e.l.f. No Budge Retractable Eyeliner, which is not the creamiest liner I've ever used, but it is inexpensive, waterproof and lasts all day.

I've been going straight in, but transfer has been an issue. I will look into this pencil, but I've heard good things about Melt and Marc Jacobs' pencils too.

I didn’t think I actually needed to know about this because I usually apply my pencil eyeliner on the inside lid part, which tickles and definitely took some time to get used to…. The Sephora retractable waterproof eyeliner in shade 10 matte brown/black is my go to. I tight line my upper waterline every time I wear makeup as my lids are tilted so it’s exposed. I just swipe it straight on. I rarely have transfer. Maybe on a particularly windy day but it has lasted me through weddings no problem

If you have very watery eyes where nothing is waterproof enough try the Melt Cosmetic cream gel liners or Natasha Denona eyeliner pencils . I must have tried over 50 different gel liners and pencils to put in my waterline , including this one but I have only 2 options.

Hi, great tip! I have a question: how do you get it off afterwards? If it's not waterproof it usually disappears on its own throughout the day and it'seasy to take off withoutscratching your eye or whatever, but I don't think waterproof ones will, so you'll have to wipe it off well at night. How do you do it?

That’s my problem, too, not the transferring, but taking it off afterwards. I can’t ever seem to get it off completely & wake up with a little bit of a black residue under my eyes the next morning :(
