@@sarahmackenzie07 Same. Crows feet, dark circles, combo/dry skin since a young teen. Turned out to be rosacea and Ehlers-Danlos that came with a side of dehydrating fibromyalgia when I got older. The EDS eats collagen out of the skin. Of course I had crows feet lol. Allergies??? turned out to be the undereye darkness culprit? like, regular allergies. to food and pollen and stuff. but antihistamines cause dehydration, so eating cucumbers helped after taking the allergy meds. Not just putting them on my face. A doc can do an allergy test to rule out allergies. It's a same-day scratch test thing. I use The Ordinary hyaluronic acid. It's like $12. The caveat is... it's a two-way door. It absorbs LOTS of humidity in the air. In the aiirrr. So if the air is dry, and you use HA, your skin will feel dry and tight. If it's humid, you'll feel better. So I put it on, just a tiny bit (like, a bottle lasts months) with a few drops of water (that same thing Alexandra does with the wet sponge, I'm just too lazy and broke for the sponges. I just wash my hands more instead.) Wait 5 minutes or so, one song on the radio. Then I layer it with an oil-free moisturizer with glycerin and silicone. The glycerin is a humectant that also absorbs water from the air, the silicones are totally skin-safe and keep the moisture on your skin, same thing that's in most primers. I think I pay ~$15 for a facial moisturizer from Garnier. They also have a really good facial sunscreen. The difference between face-specific moisturizers and sunscreens and the 'normal' ones is heavyness and ingredients, I think. The 'regular' ones break my face out like crazy after a week or so. The face-specific ones are way more expensive, but they won't break out my face.

Yalllll. Life changing tip I discovered by accident. The ordinarys rose hip oil as under eye primer. Okay...I am turning 48. My under eyes are my worst enemy. I am constantly trying different ways to conceal, hydrate and brighten. Countless eye creams, powders, and concealers. I like to set my under eye idk for me I like it even though it does look a little cakey. My best way so far is to put hydrating pads under my eye. If I’m going out I slap them on after I shower and walk around while I’m getting dressed etc for up to 30 min. Then I use the too faced peach corrector. Then a concealer..still my best one is shape tape. Then I use a damp sponge with very little Becca brightening under eye powder. My under eyes look the best this way. I have tried the Becca hydra powder and it doesn’t work for me. I am testing the rose oil now though. I also have to say if you take some makeup pads soaked in rose water and alcohol free witch hazel (I put half and half in a small jar and add pads) this lightens my dark circles. Hope these tips help someone on their quest to find the best combos to combat these pesky dark circles along with crepe skin. Alex I enjoy all of your videos especially on this subject. I usually get a new trick to try. I’m gonna try wetting my sponge with hydrating spray instead of water and see how that goes. Thanks 😊

Mature skin tip .. I use a tiny drop of squalane serum on my undereye area about 10 minutes before you do your concealer .. tap it gently and omg it’s a game changer no creasing on my 51 yr old skin .. squalane or squalene penetrates quickly and plumps up skin so it’s. a great undereye prepping item even better than eye cream because it actually penetrates skin and just doesn’t on top of skin like some eye creams do.. Remember you need just a tiny drop ..I use tarte shape tape concealer and hourglass diffused light to set my undereye and the area looks amazing .. also try using a peptide eye serum to keep your skin wrinkle free ..

The advice about embracing it may seem like it's not an answer but it's really a big part of the answer. I used to fully cover my dark circles and as my skin became dryer my techniques made my skin look older than it was. So I started putting almost no makeup under my eyes. I tap on trace amounts of Becca foundation with a brush and I don't pull at all, only soft tapping. Now I think my eyes look cool and mysterious and have natural shadows and after getting used to the idea that it is a look I can choose I started genuinely liking it. Lots of moisturizer, oils, etc. some tiny amounts of foundation, and it's cool. I do keep a brush with me just in case I get a crease situation. What a great video ❤️

As a 38 year old, I've found that rotating a few select concealers is the best strategy for my dry under eye area. I use Tarte Creaseless Concealer, Bye Bye Under Eye by It Cosmetics, Onomie Bright Concealing Elixer or ELF Hydrating Camo concealer all of which are super close to my natural skin tone because too light of a shade makes my skin look even more dry and cakey. I've also discovered that I can't use the same setting powder(the tiniest amount!) every day either so I've been testing out the Maybelline Fit me powder and the Becca Hydra Mist powders but I buff them in using a natural hair eyeshadow brush which seems to be the best method I've found so far. I’ve been applying finishing spray to a sponge then patting it just where I need it. The finish is so much better than the powder I used to put down before it

Thank you! I've just tested this patting technique and I have no clue why it's taken me 40 years and a video for me to realise I've not been layering properly

Thank you for your clear and simple suggestions for mature skin, dark circles and crepey under eyes. I was surprised by the suggestion of the orangey under eye corrector, but damn if it doesn't work! I ordered it immediately after watching this, and am impressed. Amazing. 50 years old and finally learning how to make the undereye area smooth and hydrated instead a crepey cakey mess. . Thank you!! You are awesome!

Thankful for explanations abut "mature skin" -I've had chronic illness and will increasing age the circles drive me into isolation due to incessant questions about illness. I will definitely try these tips.

i don’t know how i haven’t found you until now and i’m so glad i did!! hope this doesn’t sound creepy but you give off such a calming “im an expert so you’re safe in my hands” kinda vibe, idk how to explain lol you’re like a mentor i would trust with my life. also a bonus that we have the same name :) i can watch your videos for hours and i’m not even into makeup that much anymore

Thank you so much for doing your under eye videos! I have pale skin and terrible discoloration on top of bags and I’m so tired of spending money on products that don’t work. It’s proven difficult to find realistic videos for such a relevant issue, you’re the best!!!

Alex, your video is timely! I have been watching your channel and trying to get better at eye makeup. But I wind up with that crepe look that I am trying to avoid. I love all your tips and real comments. I have dark circles and large eye sockets so I think I'm also getting shadows. I sometimes feel if I moisturize too much that it is causing my mascara to "bleed" down to my under eye area. I'm going to experiment with your recommendations and read the comments. You have to find what works for your skin and lifestyle! I love watching your tutorials! You are beautiful inside and out!

I love the Jouer concealer and have super dark circles, dry skin, olive complexion and am 54! I use Creme Cafe because I'm a shade or two darker than you. I also love Make Up Forever Ultra HD Concealer. Sometimes, if I'm not in a rush and REMEMBER to color correct, I use the Stila color Correct and Perfect palette and use the peach color. p.s. this is my 1st KZbin comment EVER!

I actually enjoy watching a lot of your videos in my downtime because there is something very relaxing about how you explain everything! Maybe it’s my OCD and how detailed you are with your explanations. 😂

Don't use "eye creams" as you mature. I woke up at 46 with crepie dry and sagging eye bags. I got an rx for tretinoin from my Dermatologist and after six months, it started building collagen again under my eyes. Product went on smoother as they were plumper, less crepie, and could handle the concealers I use to cover my dark circles. Now, 2 yrs later, I have zero crepiness, relatively little dryness, and I can use any concealer I need to cover my circles. Honestly, somedays I go without concealer.

I was declined by my insurance for tretinoin due to my age (at the time I was mid-40s). How do so many people get that script?
@jay-jay19844 жыл бұрын
Elle Jay you pay out of pocket for retin-a. Not many insurances cover it because it’s for cosmetic use.
@naomievlahogeorge79584 жыл бұрын
Jennifer Jasmer Elle Jay I’m 46 and have never paid out of pocket for Tretinoin. It must depend on how it’s coded. I don’t know anyone I work with who pays out of pocket for hormonal cystic acne and we are teachers with a policy that is known to deny coverage whenever possible. 🤷🏼♀️

I’m almost 36 (in March) & have taken excellent care of my skin, specifically around my eyes, since I was a teenager. However, the skin there is getting thinner & harder to “hold” makeup. It happens no matter what we do, if we choose not to get injections, or surgery. Even with those things it becomes a “problem area” for everyone. Thank you for this. Mainly, the embracing what we have & going more natural as we get older. I highly agree!
@AlexandraAnele4 жыл бұрын
It's so important, not only to embrace what happens when we get older but just to be realistic in our expectations of makeup! I know I won't be wearing a full Kylie Jenner face of makeup when I'm 50!

Thank you soo much Alex for your videos! Hands down my favorite. At 42, I’ve finally surrendered to wearing concealer, and Bye bye undereye by IT is hands down the only one that works effortlessly for the entire day. Apply it with my fingers. I can even swim in It and come out unchanged. And I’m with you- no powder, retouch with finger, and mist with water throughout the day.

Hi. Love your work. In a previous video regarding dark under eye circles you reviewed Jouer and I was so impressed by the product it that I purchased it. Well! You’re review was 🔥 and on point! I’m 53 years old. I have fair and olive undertone skin. So i purchased jouer essential concealer in Chiffon. I’m in love with the product.!!!! I definitely prep my skin as you suggested before each application and I’ve not had a dry feel situation under my eyes. And the finish looks flawless. But if I start to feel dryness I will definitely try your suggestions. I believe in you. Thank you Thank you Thank you for the reviews.

Oh good! I'm so glad it's worked for you! The most important thing is skin prep, for sure. And of course, and unfortunately, not every concealer works for everyone or else this would be so easy! But I'm so glad to hear that you're loving Jouer ❤️❤️❤️
@lizchambers98934 жыл бұрын
I also went out and picked up the Jouer and as long as I prep well enough and don't set it with any powder, it works great! (I'm almost 40).

I’m 42 and Dry. My whole approach to makeup has completely changed. Shape Tape is the enemy! Lol I use the Becca color corrector she used and I love it. I also don’t set my makeup anymore with translucent powders (used to love the Laura M, can’t use it anymore) If you feel like you have to set, I’d recommend HourGlass Ambient lighting and a very light hand. And a setting spray to melt everything into your skin for sure like Alex mentioned. I find less is definitely more now! For every day makeup that you’re wearing in natural day light. If it’s a night out, and dimmed lighting is when I can go full beat and still feel good about a high coverage but luminous look. Awesome tips! Thank you 🖤

Hello, new subscriber here. I'm 52 and have dark blue veins visible in my eye corners plus deep-set eyes and dark circles. I've resisted color correctors in favor of using lighter concealer but after watching this, it makes so much sense. The opposite of blue on the color wheel is orange. I skimmed the comments and read about pink corrector, which I think would work better for me, but I'll got into Ulta and try out both pink and peach. Speaking of pink and Ulta, they have a new natural line including a "Flower Power" powder compact that is infused with rose oil. I bought it because it smelled amazing, and it's a very pale pink that I lightly dust around my eyes to help brighten them. Great video, thanks!
