I read The War That Saved My Life last month and it is one of the best middlegrade I've ever read. It's like Anne of Green Gables although the main character doesn't have Anne's positive spirit nor imagination. She is thoroughly broken and the story is about her heal again in this newfound family. Beautifully written, played with all my emotions and just plain perfection in my opinion.

You need to Read "Mary's Monster" by Lita Judge!! It is a poetic graphic novel about the life of Mary Shelly and how Frankenstein came to be. It is beautiful and absolutely heartbreaking. Each page features a beautiful grey-toned watercolor illustration and a breathtaking poem. It is simply the best thing that I have ever read in my life. It is definitely a MUST READ. Loved it.
@erinstinson57353 жыл бұрын
I read "Lock Every Door" and I was somewhat disappointed. It was fine...but I was expecting it to be super scary or even containing ghosts. But no. Ah well. Maybe something else of Sager's will be better. A couple of books that I really loved, this year, were "Where the Crawdads Sing" and "The Forgotten Home Child". I know you've read "Where the Crawdads Sing", so I won't talk about that, but "The Forgotten Home Child" is amazing. I love reading historical fiction and this one hit a little close to home. It's about poor children/orphans who were brought from London to Canada to be sold to families and used as laborers. They were the Bernardo Children. This book is about a group of children who were friends on the streets of London. They were placed into Bernardo's orphanages and then sent to Canada. Once in Canada, all of the children in this little group were purchased by different families and ended up in different areas of Southern Ontario, each experiencing some level/type of abuse from their "owners". This book is very thought provoking and hit home, to me, because my paternal grandmother was adopted, but would never talk about her background and who her biological family was. It made me think that maybe she was one of the Bernardo Children.
