I cannot tell you how obsessed I was with The Wizard of Oz as a child. I had a Dorthy dress and ruby red shoes and wore it as an outfit at least once a week for about 2 years. I even had my mom do my hair in pigtails when I wore the outfit.
@RazorRevenge2 жыл бұрын
Me too. It was my favorite movie as a child. My grandmother actually recorded it 3 times on one VHS so I wouldn’t have to keep rewinding it. She made me Dorothy’s dress by hand and I wore that dress out. Don’t know what happened to it, probably got thrown out because it was stained, faded, had holes. God I loved The Wizard of Oz 💚 Have you seen/ heard of Wicked? I really enjoy that too. You should also check out the Dorothy Must Die book series if you need more Land Of Oz in your life.

Back in the 80's, I was a Professional Drag Queen( not like the over made-up Queens of today), and I had a pair of these made for me. They were size 12 1/2 and cost me $350.00! but, they fit perfect and I wore them for many performances. I didn't "do" Dorothy, just liked them since childhood and had them made to go with a red gown that was mostly sequins. It had a small train and went over BIG! The Wizard Of Oz was and still is my favorite movie. You did a terrific job on these.

I don't know if you know this but, there are blueprints for the Ruby Slippers with a simple Google search. I'm glad that you watched the movie and even went to see the shoes in person. The blueprints did survive the fire that MGM had years ago which is where some stuff was destroyed. Also the soles of the shoes are also red. Ive seen a video where you can mix modge podge with your paint and you can make it stay instead of it chipping away...I found that out the hard way when I made mine lol.

Fun fact: apparently the costume department on the original movie used bugle beads to simulate rubies but they were too heavy so they were replaced with sequins!

And that pair was known as the Arabian pair, whom Debbie Reynolds herself adored so much she became the owner. I'm so curious to know what happened to them after her passing 😭

@@cheuiniActually the Arabian test pair is different from the bugle bead pair. The bugle bead pair are the same shape as the movie version just minus bows and, of course, using bugle beads. They were never found post production.

Great job! I've been recreating the slippers as a hobby for years . I sew the sequins by hand and make my own rectangular rubies, use antique rhinestones, and occasionally find Era correct base shoes. Just seeing young people still attempting the recreation is thrilling! My first pair was hideous, so continue keeping the shoes ALIVE !

Congratulations! Your Ruby Slippers are beautiful. You did a great job. I think you did a good job with your research, did you know the Smithsonian just spent over a year, restoring the pair they own, and you can see parts of the restoation on You Tube. The sequins are in bias rows around the shoes, whitch gives more round shape to the look. There is nothing wrong with using glue, you just have to be careful not to get glue everywhere. Who has time to sew each sequin one at a time? The fact you can wear yours is an added bouns. By the way, your sewing skills are amazing!
