Alexandre Guilmant (1837-1911): ABSOUTE (Absolution), Op. 49 | By Rien

A beautiful piece with typical Guilmant harmonies and lots of accidentals. This one is more challenging than the writing indicates at first sight! This piece is playable on many instruments as the composer writes on the piece. I decided to play it on just one manual and the pedals with a smooth registration. I hope you like my performance!
For the best listening experience, I recommend using headphones, earbuds, or a hi-fi set. The sound dynamics of the pipe organ are truly remarkable and can be fully appreciated with high-quality audio equipment.

Thanks Paul! I’m I intrigued by the typical Guilmant harmonies. Without formal key changes, the piece starts and ends in F major but in between it goes all over the place. Especially his use of the circle of fifths fantastic. If you play a piece from Graham Twist, then you immediately understand why Guilmant is one of his inspiration sources. :-)
