jwarior many factors come into place. For the indigenous people of the south the reason we were beaten wasn’t because we were weak or gave up. But right when the Europeans came the Inca empire was going through a civil war. So the lack of preparation and awareness of their arrival was what mainly led to their downfall. Otherwise we wouldn’t have been beaten. Just as in Bolivia when they were subjugated the normal indigenous people rose up and created a military plan and beat the Europeans. And mind you the europeans had much more weapons that were more dangerous. All the Aymara people of Bolivia used was rocks. And they won.

My parents never explained to me why as a child i could not speak Spanish like the other Mexican kids in the states. I always felt like an outcast because I was told I was a bad "Mexican" turns out I found out in high school that we're part of an indigenous people, Mixtecs. I was so angry at them for never telling me why I was different and they said it was because they thought I would be embarrassed! Now I wish they told me, because it was so awkward always trying to explain (badly) why I couldn't speak Spanish. Or feeling bad for not being like them. I'm glad I'm not shrouded in lies. I am mixtec and not mexican.
