Dude, I just found your videos today and I’m now on a binge. They are so refreshing to watch! A lot of the channels I used to watch that made content similar to this have now transitioned into more sensational content that only plays to the algorithm. While I respect their business decision as full time KZbinrs, it does make me sad when the content I subscribed for is no longer a priority as they change. One creator I requested old style vlogs of replied to my comment saying “those videos just don’t get views”. Anywho, i digress, it doesn’t really matter what i think lol- but i just wanted to say, thanks for making content like this that’s so down to earth. Regardless of what your journey ends up looking like on the platform, i really enjoy sitting back and watching engaging content like this! -storm

A friend of mine recently bought it before an automotive shoot to help with the video side for rolling shots. I went into the shoot knowing that it was a pretty capable little camera and the flexability with 10 bit D-log M was great. But once I actually used it at the shoot and worked with it in post it truly amazed me. It exceeded my expectations and provided a good bit of dynamic shots to the final video. When you say convenient it truly is! I didn't have to do anything dangerous to myself or to my main camera to get rollers (hanging out the back of a car with a harness lol). It's something I'll invest in soon and use in my kit for sure!

I’ve been using the pocket three for about four months now and I am amazed that it punches way above its price range. Long as you have enough light the quality of the video is terrific. In low light it’s not terrible but it certainly ain’t the Sony a7s4. But the best thing about the pocket three is the stabilization… I can go running and it’s smooth as butter.

I have had the Pocket 1 since launch, then got the Pocket 2. Still use the Pocket 1 often because I prefer the focal length, but those two cameras have taken me around the globe more than once. I also take a Sony RX100 VII for stills, but do lots of travel video on the Pocket cameras. I look forward to adding the Pocket 3 to my kit eventually but there are always so many other important things that swallow money, so I need to wait. The whole Pocket form factor and size are perfect for my needs. The gimbal works so much better than EIS on other cameras.

Interesting perspective. I visited Patagonia almost thirty years ago. The landscape and wind are the same, but I travelled with a SLR, shot film and no video. Video cameras existed of course but with horribly bad quality. Casio had just launched the QV 10 stills camera with 0.25 MP. Quite a difference to the Pocket 3.

One of the best Pocket 3 reviews I've seen! Question for Alex or anyone else here using it -- when filming non-handheld shots of yourself doing photography, do you carry a second full-size tripod and mount the Pocket 3 on that? Just use the tiny legs it comes with? Something else?
@AlexArmitage6 ай бұрын
Most of the tripod shots are with one of my cameras and a tripod. I have set the P3 down on its little tripod legs before as well.

The thing I hate the most about the camera is… I like it so much!! I bought a second one and primarily use it as a PTZ camera! Able to control the pan & tilt from a distance is a god send. And if the subject moves too much, then I auto track their mug, while I'm doing photography of the event. It really makes you a 1 man show. God help me if they make another one with the lens from the DJI Mavic 3 Pro. I'll be broke!! P.S. Fantastic photography by the way.

Hey Alex! Thank you so much for this, this is exactly what I needed. On the run, real-life use for filming in non controlled environment. Probably the most valuable review I've seen so far! I just had a question about switching between modes, which you kind of answered, but got me super curious: How much do you find yourself changing White Balance, or do you set it to auto? And, how often do you find yourself taking off the ND-lens? I tend to spend most of my time recording in day light and occasionally low-light (head-lamp) environment. But it happens that I go in-doors multiple times a day, like you did on and off the plane/car, maybe inside a tent, e.t.c. That would help me stay prepared and aware during the transitions between these environments when I take it out on first run on the 20th of May! Thank you again! Fingers crossed, that you'll see my comment =)!

My Osmo Pocket 3 started having issues with the Depth of Focus/Field. I've checked the PRO settings and have configured it to either Single, Continuous, & Product Showcase, but the shot stays blurry in all three modes. I tried tapping on the subject on the screen but it stays blurry. I have to angle my OP3 upwards then slowly bring it down to shoot a clear video, but after a few seconds, it gets blurry again. I tried resetting my OP3 back to Factory Settings, but the problem still persists. Love the cam, but this blurry issue is so frustrating! Any assistance to this matter would be absolutely helpful!

Great video Alex - first, I think it might be moving Patagonia up on the bucket list - those scenes!! I've been using the Pocket 3 for about the same amount of time and I agree, it just stays out of the way while telling a story, small, lightweight, the gimbal has improved my b-roll tremendously - both for ease of having a camera at hand to the stability of it, I could go on-and-on. I think I'm finally going to have to break down and get the ND filters, I've been shooting on auto for a lot, but the samples you showed were great at illustrating the difference. (I know in one of my recent videos - I looked too crisp - brighter conditions). And now that makes both you and Heaton commenting that the log video is workable even without luts if need be. Guess it is time to do some more experimentation with the camera. Safe travels!
@AlexArmitage6 ай бұрын
the majority of my "grade" on this footage was basically the 709Lut at 50% intensity. Thats it. Some scenes no lut at all.

He says for such a small sensor? In my limited experience, a 1 inch sensor is not small. With your set up what do you consider a normal size sensor to be?
@KoensolАй бұрын
Man I'm so torn on buying this camera. I started out creating videos just with my dji action 3, and went and bought a sony RX10IV for a flexible setupnfor filming wildlife spotting trips and hikes. The one thing I'm missing is a small, easy to use camera that allows for more cinematic looking B roll. The action 3 is nice, but its fixed focus which isn't always what you want and the RX10IV takes some time to set up which isn't convenient. So what do you think of the pocket 3 for this particular use case (filming while walking, B roll, close ups)? My main concern is how fragile this thing is. I've heard of stories where wind blowing sand grains into the gimbal ruined the camera. Another option is buying a gimbal like the Hohem Isteady Pro 4 and upgrading to the action 5. Its such a hard choice... 😂
@AlexArmitageАй бұрын
I'd really only suggest this if you're vlogging or doing anything adjacent to that. Most of it's strengths stem from that (audio, stability, easy to pocket)
@KoensolАй бұрын
@@AlexArmitage So you'd say it's not really suited for b-roll stuff like short clips of tree branches, leaves or grass/plants blowing in the wind, static shots with you walking in/out of frame or focus, or revealing shots coming from behind objects? It's clunky to have to use the RX10 for this all the time as it's a lot bigger and heavier and often requires to setup the tripod. And the action cam doesn't have that nice DOF.
@AlexArmitageАй бұрын
@@Koensol correct. Do not get a Pocket 3 for that type of filming. The only one it would be fine for is static shots walking in/out of frame

Hi Alex, outstanding work my good man! Around the 9:00 mark when you started dropping images I feel your video went even more vertical in the most positive way! I seriously appreciate you using the OP3 for 6 months prior rather than just a few days or weeks since it often takes a while to really get into a camera especially something different and new, at least I have found that, what about you do you find that as well or something different? As I watched your video location Patagonia it got me thinking I simply could see the similarities to Vancouver and the various mountains and lakes we also have here. Have you guys been here yet? If yes, how was it? If not, how come and when are you coming? It appears from your video we share a lot of the same equipment.
