Had a Henry 223 Long Ranger. It shot well but after 8-10 rounds it would walk all over a 100 yard target. I sold it for more than I paid for it and bought a Tikka T3 varmint rifle. That big barrel really made a difference. Several of my friends came up and we put about 100 rounds through the Tikka (5 of us shooting 52, 55, and 64 grain bullets at 2 gongs, 8” and 4” at 250 yards. Consistently hitting both gongs regardless of the bullet weight. I also have a SAKO 50+ years old, thick barrel in 22-250 and it shoots as accurately. Best rifles I have ever fired. By the way I am 84 years old and shoot golf balls at 50 and 100 Yards as a hobby. One of the few things I am still able to do. I will probably do a video when it cools off a little bit.

Ive got both in 6.5CM. Tikka is easier to shoot tighter groups with (and thats with several samples of Tikkas and HMRs that friends and family own.). Tikka has the better trigger, and has the odd advantage of being able to swap from short to long action chamberings with a simple bolt stop swap. The Tikka's action is smoother and less prone to binding. It also has the advantage of a 70 degree throw which some people prefer (I can take it or leave it). The Bergara has a better factory stock by far, and has a decent advantage in aftermarket support. If I were to recomend one to someone who doesnt want to change or upgrade the gun at all, then get the Bergara just for the stock alone, the stock is great. But if you plan to change the stock, then Tikka is the better platform to make a semi-custom out of imo. Especially if you get the new Tikka T3x Supervarmint. If you want to get a Bergara and replace the stock and trigger and barrel etc..., then just get a custom action to begin with. Bergaras shine brightest when left in stock configuration in my opinion. Thats where they represent the greatest value.

In Europe Begara won't make/sell an HMR in .223 Rem. Apparently the Spanish Govt won't allow them to make them for the European market so I was told by a Spanish sales rep. Instead I bought the Tikka T3X CTR, 24" barrel , 1:8" twist and love it.It's accurate, like the double stack single feed mag and the standard trigger is fine for me breaking at around 3lbs.I'd still like a Bergara HMR at some point and will probably go for a .308 or 6.5 creed...One of my favourite channels and always look out ofr your video's so keep up the good work.. Regards from England.. :-)

Great review. I have to admit I wasn't expecting the Bergara to get so many of the categories. I have a Begara, and love it, and for fairness I don't have a Tikka, but everyone I know that owns a Tikka swears by it.

I’d take the Tikka, regardless of the categories it didn’t win. Bergara 90 degree bolt lift is a hard pass for me. I’d rather not drag my knuckles across the scope every time I run the action. Also I’m not a fan of the lack of a bolt lock on safety. Another hard pass.

I just bought the bergara b14 hmr in the 6.5 Creedmoor and after my barrel break in I shot a 3/16 group at 100m, and that was on a fairly windy day. My brother then shot and got a 3/8 group at 100m. The bergara is a laser beam so far. I can’t wait too stretch it out. That was with the Sako TRG Precision target rounds 136 grain. So far that’s all I’ve shot out of it. I’m not reloading yet but plan to shortly.

Watch out all the tikka fan boys are going to be pissed about this video😂. All the guys hating on bergara go try one out that action is definitely better, I was the same way until I felt it in person. they’re both great guns. I’m looking at getting a new rifle and I’ve been doing a lot of research on both. Had my mind set on a tikka until recently when I held the bergara for the first time. Everyone knows bergaras stock and barrels are better. Until recently I thought tikkas action was better. I was at sportsmans looking at both tikka/bergara and the bergara has the better action. It has tighter tolerances and just runs smoother. From what I’ve seen on KZbin the accuracy is a wash. The only thing tikka has that’s better is the trigger and it adjusts 1/2 pound lower than bergara. There is way more aftermarket support for the bergara too

I've shot both rifles in 6.5 creed. Both are equally accurate. The tikka has a smoother action and the trigger breaks cleaner on the tikka. The tikka also cycles with less effort than the Bergara. That being said the Bergara stock is noticeably stiffer. Shooting on a bench with a bipod the heavier stiff stock of the Bergara is at an advantage. That stiffness comes at the cost of a weight increase. The Bergara is built on the 700 action and there fore suffers the lack of a safety that locks the bolt.. If your hunting with a gun that shoots just as accurate as the other, but one has a safety that can insure my action doesn't come open accidentally and can cycle rounds with ease every time and weighs less. I'm choosing the one that can insure my gun bolt stays locked and is lighter and cycles easier. Both are great guns ones just seems happier on a bench and the other happier in the woods. It seems guns are always getting compared based on similar prices. It would be nice to see some comparisons based less on price and more on intended use. Say a tikka 3x upr vs. Bergara Bmr 14. They dont match up price wise but style wise they do.. just a thought.

Here, the Bergara is around 1300€ while the tikka won't be less than 1600€ (CTR; 20"). Interesting to see you give the point for the barreled action to the HMR. Keep up the great work!

@@ChaoticCarl86_YT Haven't ever shot a Tikka, but I'm more than happy with the Bergara. I do really like the gun stock and the height adjustable cheek piece. With loads of patience I'm getting around .8 MOA groups, which is plenty good for my use. The trigger is a good single stage, haven't found the need to adjust or upgrade. The bolt runs very smoothly. I'd prefer the B14 in 3-lug bolt configuration vs. the Rem 700 style two-lug, the 90 degree throw is a bit much imho. All in all, if you're planning to buy an upgrade stock anyhow, you might wanna go Tikka, but the B14 is an amazing piece of kit out of the box. I'd buy it again any day of the week!

Little details matter and on the Tikka you can change out the barrel without a gunsmith (except maybe removing the barrel initially as they are on tight) and the Action can be changed from short to long by simply by using a different bolt/bolt head and moving the bolt stop. So basically the action on Tikkas can do it all. I've owned a HMR and they are great but would definitely go with a Tikka CTR and build it up from there.

Change the bolt head?????????? Not hardly. I have two T3's, 308 & 6.5X55.. Oh and a T1 UPR rimfire. My last 2 big game rifles were a Bergara Wilderness ridge 6.5 PRC and Tikka t3x lite 6.5 creedmoor. My next rifle is likely to be a Bergara B14 Hunter 30-06 and the next one will either be a Tikka or Bergara. Honestly in the $700-$1000 price range, these 2 rifles are at the top of the mountain in my opinion. There are other rifles that are good. Kimber, Howa, and Weatherby... But the Tikka and Bergara are bringing a lot of "bang for your buck"!

Alex, regarding the accuracy on your HMR: did you remove the paint from the pillars, where the stock touches the action? If not done already, you could get an easy improvement if you do so. It's an easy job with Q-tips or scotch brite and acetone. Check and remove the paint also from the underneath the stock: where the trigger guard touches the pillars. One additional possible improvement could come also from the bedding of the recoil lug..

I own both rifles…my HMR is chambered in .308 and my Tikka CTR is in 6.5. They are both great shooters. I bought the HMR to use as my hunting rifle because it’s a great platform as is. The Tikka I turned into my project gun and put it in a new chassis because the CTR stock was lacking for what I wanted to do with it (I needed an adjustable comb to make it more comfortable). Both guns shoot great. My Tikka has a smoother action, but I’m splitting hairs honestly, they are both great. I do prefer the 70° bolt on the Tikka to the 90° bolt on the Bergara, but I am using them in different applications (Tikka for faster, precision shooting vs Bergara for 1-2 shots for hunting), so it’s not a big deal for me. The Tikka trigger is more consistent as well, but again, not by much. I enjoy both of these rifles and you can’t go wrong with either one.

I like Tikka however the twist rate in 22-250 is 1:14 while the Bergara is 1:9 in the same caliber. Leaning towards Bergara. Your thoughts?

Tikka is King. The Bergaras rust way too easily! Every one I looked at brand new on the shelf had rust all over it. It has some great features but if they can't put a good finish on a gun I have to pass. Tikka actions are also superior. Only thing I give Bergaras is their stocks are better. My Tikka CTR shoots 3/8 inch groups in the factory stock with 20 inch barrel, light weight and 10 round metal detachable magazine.

Im going to start shooting PRS. Im thinking about getting a t3x varmint stainless. Thats pretty much descided. Now 6,5x55 or 308? Shorter barrel with supressor or long barrel? I know 308 can handle short barrels, but 6,5x55 kinda need longer barrels. What do you suggest? Selling a few guns to finance the build. Putting an Arken Optics EPL4 4-16x44 FFP VHR MIL on it.

Good question, if the CTR stock wasnt stillf just a cheap polymer stock then id go tikka otherwise Bergara. Now i just bought the Tikka UPR in 6.5, and I have never in my life seen a rufle this accurate. Sub moa accross the load development. Not sure if they did something differnet on the UPR but its way more accurate than any of my other Tikkas and Bergaras

Excellent review of both. I really appreciate that you did this comparison because these are the two that I'm actually looking at buying. I'm looking at getting a 22- 250 I see that the Bergara offers a 1 in 9 twist for the heavier bullets which I plan to shoot. Not sure exactly how heavy of a bullet I can go with 1 In 9 think I would be safe to 80 grains which pretty much covers me because I plan on shooting between 60 and 75 most of the time. The Tikka is it traditional 1 in 14 but I do see that they have two different twist rates fast and slow for the 223? So I'm not sure if the 22 250 has that option or not? Do you have any suggestions for me? I was also even looking at maybe spending a little bit more money on a Seiko varmint if I can get a fast twist. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you
@EpikArms
@EpikArms 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brian, great question, yes if the bergara has a 1-8 twist it will be able to stabilise the heavier bullets although im not sure you will be able to find factory 22-250 amunition with 75 or 80 grain bullets. If you reload then you are set. The tikka being a 1-14 twist will only be suitable for very light bullets such as the 55gr. Personally id go with the bergara if you reload. Both are pretty great guns tho. Thanks for watching
@brianlee6849
@brianlee6849 3 жыл бұрын
@@EpikArms I plan to reload. How heavy of a bullet do you think I can go with 1 in 9 twist? I know the 22 creedmoor wildcat guys prefer 1 in 8 or even 1 in 7.5 . I think the 1 in 9 should work because I plan to use 60 to 75 hunting bullets not so much longer match bullets. Thank you 👍
