Digging an unsupported hole in the bottom of an erosion ravine which you have dumped the spoil in as well, is asking for all sorts of trouble. The first rainstorm will cause the shelter to flood, and the hole collapse.

I'd be more worried about collapse than flood. If the structure collapses with you inside, there's little chance of escape as the weight of the soil would more than likely suffocate you. I've done my fair share of "shoring up" to know it doesn't look too safe, especially in sandy soil.

This kind of stuff comes up all the time. These kinds of shelters are temporary, to provide seasonal shelter when exploiting a seasonal resource. If you want to build a permanent shelter, build a house, in town, with plumbing and a power connection.

I think the people posting missed the mark for this video. It is a very bad idea, I knew it from the start, we all did. What we need from you is, WHY? Did you not know this was a really dangerous thing to do? Please change your description and title. This should read, "How NOT to build a death trap." Seriously, I am not being mean. There are so many people who will see this, not read the comments and attempt it. This is dangerous and it is definitely NOT a cave. A cave or cavern is a natural void in the ground, specifically a space large enough for a human to enter. Caves often form by the weathering of rock and often extend deep underground. Wikipedia

Flat South Carolina sand. It's flat the whole coastline and close to 100 miles inland. And sand, and more sand. Then about 3feet down is a layer that's almost as hard as concrete. Called gumbo.

Esa forma de cobstruir es un error.Ese hueco se te llenará de agua en la misma entrada y no podrás habitarlo.Debes comenzar en un lugar más alto,donde al escurrir el agua no suba y entre en la cavidad.Debes comenzar a un mismo nivel y cuando tengas una abertura y estés lejos del agua de la lluvia,entoces subes uno o dos escalones y te extiendes hacia el interior manteniendo un mismo nivel del suelo y así evitas que la lluvia te inunde el interior.

Самый бестолковый бушкрафтер! И название тоже бестолковое. Нет что бы просто «путешественник» или «выживальщик». Но речь не об этом. Во-первых: Зачем рыть дыру в самом низу оврага? Наверное, что бы потом никогда от туда не выбраться после дождя. Во-вторых: Зачем такой бестолково огромный свод и приямок? Наверное для того, что бы там никогда не согреться и вымокнуть! Почему бы не сделать пещеру под высоким берегом, там, куда он бедолага карабкался! Сначала ступени вниз, потом небольшой вход и с подъёмом вверх свод. В хорошей пещере уровень пола должен быть выше входа. Тогда там не будет сквозняка и будет сохраняться тепло. Иначе нахер она вообще нужна такая пещера!

I love it! However, had you built it on a mountainside, hillside or nearly anywhere other than where you built it, I'd be more impressed. I doubt ANY but the mist novice of cave people would have built their shelter where a flash flood would likely have killed you all in seconds! This is a minor criticism on LOCATION, n I t on the skills you used or what you did. Please, next time, take the time to make one out of a flood plain or flash flood area. The craving you built in shows signs of having had flooding before. Stay safe and keep up the good videos.

Please don't think I am being mean, my post below is about helping, not hurting. I am an old woman but I have had a very adventurous life. I know more about survival than 9 our of 10 people posting survival videos. I not only study it but I lived it. Just about any environment and situation too. This isn't bragging, I thought I would lend an ear to you and see if you have any plans that might need an unpaid expert. I am about to watch your other videos just to see if this isn't a spoof or gag. It reminds me of those Asian videos where the guys use sticks and baskets to build underground homes and pools. Those are fake. You can see workers in the back ground helping, tire tracks from trucks and loaders, and if there is a way to make the water safe paint they use for their pools from crushed leaves and water, then I am the daughter of the god of Uranus! Please, for the sake of those without sense, change the information about this video, include that it collapsed and it is a what not to do video.
