Thank you for the wonderful talk. I wish code dives like this were more popular.

I have to say, leaving irreverent comments and funny procedure names for Future Me to find certainly helps bolster my spirits after lots of coding.

Pets in Nethack will always remind me of Xibit now. This talk is great, I can see it being something to perk me up when I'm lost in spaghetti.

"A very specific output handled in a very generic way." Is it possible to learn this power?

"Code comments itself right?" Yes it should. Compare 11:43 to 14:41

"Code comments itself right?" Lol, I've actually had a developer tell me this! Here was the situation: He made a website for our LAN party. He stopped coming. Website needs attention. I take over. I rewrote website in Go. He got mad that I didn't keep his site that he no longer maintained. I told him all my reasons for starting from scratch, including his lack of code comments. Module after module devoid of a single comment and he defended his decision as "good code comments itself". And maybe perfect code does. My problem though is that I can always read your code and see what it does, but that doesn't tell me what you wanted it to do.

Gibus Wearing Mann Nethack does not predate OOP. Look at history of Smalltalk which predates nethack by at least 7 years and at most 18 years
