If somebody told me 20 years ago that I would voluntarily choose to watch some 70 year old geezer on a pushbike regaling the audience with anecdotes, geographical information, and philosophical musings as he cycled around various UK locales, I would have said, "Yeah, that's not going to happen... unless of course it's Alexie Sayle pushing the pedals."

OMFG ! I have not seen anything of your work since the Young Ones...I bought your 7 ' vinyl single and used to annoy the crap out of schoolmates by singing non stop ' allo john,got a new mota' and 'I lost me jumper' . Lovely to see you still going looking like a 50 year old and shaming the now young ones with your vigour and passion for life. Thanks for the great and dear memories of the 80's.

What great timing (for me) as I’m currently reading ‘Thatcher Stole My Trousers’ and it is excellent. I think I read about three pages before deciding that I then needed to get ‘Stalin Ate my homework’! That now is on its way from Amazon US to the rather Right Wing South American country I live in.

This is wonderful. I spent many years driving round those roads in the 1980/90s. The changes happen gradualy when you're there but are vicious when not. The most striking thing to me is the North End Road having so many upmarket cars in it whilst at the same time being filled with litter. To be fair to London though, when I first arrived there it was the end of the 1970s, pre Docklands, and was best viewed through Michael Caine's eyes in Get Carter. When i left, Brick Lane was upmarket.

Alexei's A-Z of Pigs at the Trough. Was spookily heartened by the existence of the toy shop in part 1. Just didn't seem possible in this day & age. Must be Russian mob ruble laundrette, only thing that makes sense. Keep peddling comrade ✊

I find your bicycle history interesting enjoying your mind telling of the changing London. You are a wonderful mind and I appreciated your Cockney dancing . I feel I should go home to where I spent my childhood and do a talk tour such as yourself. Nobody would recognise me I want to see the changes from 40.000 mortgage in 1960 to 2million Reality in 2022. I think its Ethological in the future. Bless you 🙏

1:30 Houses going for 2 million....but the odd thing is, it looks like such a shit-hole. Of all the places rich people could live. Could it be that they bought into the postcode as brand name? Are areas actually brand names now, instead of communities or places to live? It may look like a shit-hole, but the brand name costs two million quid.

As a user of Exhibition Road I can say that it’s awful to drive on because it’s difficult to know where it’s ok to be; awful to cycle in because of the confused drivers and pedestrians; and terrible to walk along because of the cars cutting corners and the confused cyclists. I don’t like bike lanes either; as a cyclist I find the constricting and a bit slow.

Yo Alexei, just watched your chat with Arthur Smith at the Tring book ting, no need to shoot Boris in the back now I’m sure someone else is going to do it soon. Wow the smoke looks so quiet. Enjoyable watching you on KZbin, I saw you on the tube many years ago. Mid 80’s I was on my way to SouthBank Poly on the Victoria line, there was one other person in the train carriage a woman sat a few seats to my left. The train stopped at Kennington tube station and who should get on wearing Dr Martin boots and sit opposite between the other passenger and myself? I really wanted to say hi and something stupid like ‘your dog’s made a mess on the carpet’. I could see the reflection of the woman sat to my left, she was reading a newspaper and every 10 seconds or so would lower it below her eye level to have a little glance at you. I got off a couple of stops later at Stockwell annoyed with myself for not acknowledging you. Really enjoyed your chat you had with Stewart Lee, he’s a really well crafted comedian. One last thing, it’s worrying what you said to Arthur S about comics being frightened…. I really want to hear someone ripping into the ( fuck,, I’m too frightened to say) Anyway I’m starting a secret society and I would like to invite you to join. . . just go to .com for details. P E A C E : )

@SimonNuttall2 жыл бұрын
I’m interested in the cycling surface at least as much as the narrator’s musings of the good old days and the old haunts. Why not have the inset at top dead centre?
@Talalaban2 жыл бұрын
@@SimonNuttall not a terrible idea actually. However, I put it where it is after trying lots of different ideas and there are many reasons why I chose this final placement. You should always assume some thought has gone into these things
@SimonNuttall2 жыл бұрын
@@Talalaban Yes I do appreciate that you have thought about it. If the inset was placed at top dead centre the skyline is not really lost as it can be seen in the distance before it becomes occluded. Whereas at bottom dead centre the detail of the cycling surface is annoyingly obstructed. When I’m cycling that’s exactly where I’m looking which may be why I am exercised by this issue. I did go to the comedy store in 1982 I think. I went up in that four person lift. The act I recall was Fish Fantastic, surreal.
