with the spoof Micky Mouse Club intro, "Steamboat Fatty", several very funny sketches set in Post Offices, Court Rooms and the Royal Pointless and Utterly Futile Military Things Tournament with Sgt. Dave Velco and his trained shrubbery bush Caesar.

Alexei was an observational genius; One of my pet hates of the 80’s was braving a 30-60 minute queue at the Post Office to get car tax to be greeted by an obstructive lethargic slow and unconcerned self important counter staff every-time and I have been looking for this episode for ages- sublime stuff!

This was a genuine treat for me. Though I had seen Sayles on The Secret Policeman's Ball and a few other things, I had never seen this before. It is subversive, intelligent, and holds up very well 30 years later. Change a few names--say Thatcher to Johnson--and it could have been made last week. I loved the involuntary cameo by David McCullum. It was fun seeing pre-QI Angus Deaton as well. Ye-e-e-e-e-e- Haw comrade! Thinks for the upload. It made my day.

Loved Alexi from his appearances on the Young Ones back in the day. But what I found most interesting about this was the obvious Michael Palin and John Cleese impersonators in some of the sketches. Even though this (like the Young Ones) was supposed to be new wave, alternative comedy, Monty Python still casts its shadow over everything.

@MCVessels: Didn't know the actor's name, so thanks. And the guy who said "So thank God it's still 1960" at the end of the B/W sketch, gave a characterisation (at least to my ears) very reminiscent of Michael Palin.

Actually, a tower block called Ronan Point partially collapsed in 1968. Many people don't realise why Maggie Thatcher was so keen to sell them off in the 80's. They already knew they were a disaster within years of them being built.

14:21 That Superman joke is watered down for the BBC; on Alexei's original album it was "Remember, though Superman can fly, you can't; not unless you take an awful lot of drugs." Clearly Auntie Beeb had a panic about that sending a glamorizing message about drug taking, so they made it a joke about alcoholism instead! Because it is okay to glamorize legal drug abuse!.~
