Alex... Respectfully... You "missed" something... I'm a 5+ Mile Miler flyer (TV producer) with 6-8 international longhaul flights each year and I decided, before an upcoming trip to Australia, that I would survey some of KZbin's "travel experts" suggestions and I am stunned that I have not seen any "travel expert" offer this advice and this is so simple to implement... BRING A PILLOWCASE... And if you are flying in a window seat and have brought with you any kind of jacket, toss the jacket into the pillowcase and... Voila... You will have a much more comfortable headrest... (If you're flying during cooler months and have brought with you a down jacket, you will have a VERY comfortable pillow, in fact.) And when you get to your destination you can use your pillowcase to help separate used clothing (socks, etc) from your fresh clothes... We ALL sleep with a pillow at home and while the "yoke" headrest you describe here works, if you are at home would you rather sleep wearing that yoke or rest your head on a pillow? (Again, I'm describing sitting in a window seat, for a middle seat or an aisle seat, your yoke headrest is better than nothing...) I've flown for 40 years and I have never seen anyone (other than myself) use a pillowcase in this fashion. I don't get it? Why not do this?

I'd recommend if you get dry eyes a lot and wear contacts, but don't want to screw around with eye drops on a flight, wear glasses and pack the contacts.
@AlexgoesCoconuts3 жыл бұрын
I agree , you can bring glasses and skip the contact lenses during your flight, however you should still carry your contacts in your carry on bag in case they loose or misplace your luggage. And If you are packing everything in a carry on bag, you need to put your contact solution in your 3-1-1 liquids bag.

Great tips! I also travel extensively all over the world. Just returned from a long haul 15.5 hr flight. As mentioned in others comments - make sure to check the carryon restrictions of the airlines you will traveling on. Some have very strict size and weight restrictions. I personally travel with a small makeup size bag to hold everything I need for the flight in my backpack that I take out and tuck on the side of my seat. Eye mask, lip balm, wipes, earplugs, ginger chews, gum, travel toothbrush and toothpaste, earbuds, a small snack, etc. It allows me to not have a backpack on the floor and have more leg room. I put my flight essentials bag and my charged mini iPad in a ziplock that I pull out before sitting down. Most times I can put my backpack and carryon in top bin.

I carry a roll of doggie bags in carry one bag as well as in my auto too! One roll is less than one inch and slides into a make-up bag or glass case. When used for doggie walking to pick up poop, they appear very small, but for people items, they’re surprisingly generous in size when paper or plastic is smushed together inside. Some doggies bags may even be cute having stripes or other patterns. A dollar store may carry them too!

Actually it doesn’t have to be fully charged. I think the rule is at least 30% charged but still, all devices have to be able to turn on if the security officers asks. You travel like I do! Normally people push the hard-sided carry-on cases then talk about sneaking extra stuff on board. Yes, they look cool and make traveling through the airport easier. Like you, however, I prefer to use a duffel bag in flight so everything is right in front of me. I've had great luck with the duffel that Rick Steves sells. It looks similar to yours but has extra pockets on the outside. I like that I rarely even have to put it on my lap to retrieve what I need. I know where things are stored and can easily access through the outside pockets items are in or in the travel pouches like you use. I also use an oversized scarf as a blanket, but mine has pockets on the bottom ends which I use to hold my phone and earbuds case, etc. Handy if I fall asleep while listening to a book. Along with non-liquid OTC medical supplies like Tylenol, Pepto Bismol, etc., I carry hard ginger candies just in case I get motion sickness. Problems are rare but they can happen and I'd rather be prepared than embarrassed and/or miserable. I also pack a pair of "Fitkicks" which are rubber soled stretchy slipper shoes. Very comfortable and take almost no room in a bag because they are completely flat. I then use a carabiner to attach my regular shoes to my duffel so they don't get lost under the seat somewhere. I agree about carrying the water mister to spray on your face, especially on long flights. It's amazing how much that really helps! I also use either ziplocs for garbage or a roll of those pet waste bags, which were very helpful when my kids were little. So many messes could be tied up and either handed over to the flight attendants without being too gross or just carried off the plane myself. Thanks for your effort in making this video and for all the great tips.

Great video but honestly and respectfully you should keep your passport on your person and not in your bag. They make those thin cloth money belt/ wallets that wrap around your waist and fit under your clothes. where you should keep your passport, large bills and credit card. People steal bags all the time and there are professional pick pockets, even on planes. Just because you keep your bag close doesn't mean it can't be stolen or lost. Losing a passport will ruin your trip and now someone has your Identity. Only put your passport in your bag, if you are in a trusted residence . Not a hotel, hostel, plane, bus, train, Taxi etc... American Passports are highly sought after by thieves.

Yes, good point. I do usually carry a cross body purse where I keep my passport but did not mention it in this video. It is safer to keep it on oneself. Thanks for sharing!

Could you not place your packed bag into a small suitcase so you don't have to carry it around the airport and then when you get on the plane just take the bag out of the little case and pop the case in the overhead. If you do have to put your case in the hold you could just remove your carry-on bag? Could you see any problems with doing that? Really hate carrying a large bag around an airport when I could wheel it in a small suitcase.
@AlexgoesCoconuts2 жыл бұрын
Sure that would be a good solution. You could also pack the carryon suitcase with the clothes and toiletries and just carry a backpack with the things you will want to access the most during your flight.

Doesn’t that bag exceed the size for under seat storage?
@AlexgoesCoconuts2 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't, however always check with the airline you are traveling with. Each airline has different dimensions of accepted carry-on bags.

Hi, Alex. These are great tips! However, the link you've listed for the reusable snack bags is actually the link for the water bottle.

Always bring an extra pair of glasses esp if u need it for distance ! A mini tub of Vaseline covers both dry Lip and hands and many other issues instead of hand cream and lip balm . Some hard candy or peppermints/gum . Having had to perform valsalva maneuver on flights I always have mint /gum/ decongestant instant spray and pill form/ and some kind of pain reliever. I personally always have my jasmine tea bags , packets of honey and husbands stevia sweetener. She is right about extra clothes I also pack something to sleep in . Many of my travel mates have had to attend high level NATO meetings in their dirty flight clothes !! Ewe..

I have that same bag in my cart. Do you like it?
@AlexgoesCoconuts3 жыл бұрын
I do like it. For the price it’s great. Plus it has a wet pocket for wet items and a slot so you can slip it onto the handles of a suitcase. I use as my gym bag too so it gets a lot of use.

I only pack three bags (even for an extended vacation). The one that goes under the seat has snacks, flight comfort and entertainment items. It also has the “I’m doomed if I lose these” items because I can’t replace them (medication, passport, phone, etc.). I also keep half my money and credit cards in this one. The one that goes in the overhead bin has a change of clothes and makeup and anything I might need if my bag gets lost. It also has 25% of my money. My checked bag has the rest of my things and the rest of my money. To save space, I buy toiletries and other small items when I get to my destination. Excellent video!

The only thing I wouldn't agree with here is putting any money in my checked baggage. I'd rather wait and hit up a bank or money changer kiosk when I reach my destination. Maybe I just have bad luck, but nearly every time I travel, my bag is searched. Maybe the airline employees just have nothing better to do in the less populated areas (lol), but every single time I travel in the Midwest, they have opened my bags. Maybe you have an excellent way to disguise it, though??
@AlexgoesCoconuts2 жыл бұрын
@@morpheuszzz662 I never pack money in my checked bag. This is a sure way to get it stolen. I carry all money and ID on me at all times. I don't suggest on relying on a money exchange at airport. If your flight is delayed and it is closed on arrival, it might be a problem. I always bring at least enough to grab a taxi and food in the country I am traveling to. Then I can worry about exchanging more.

@@morpheuszzz662 Totally agree! The xray machines seem to be able to spot colors inside checked in bags. A friend had accidentally left a folded hundred dollar bill in an evening bog in checked luggage, and on arrival the lock had been broken, the bill was missing, and nothing else was out of place. Amazing.

What travel backpack would you recommend?
@AlexgoesCoconuts3 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of backpacks that could work depending on your budget and what you are carrying. If you want to invest in a good backpack that will last you for a long time, you can look at : The Osprey Backpack which are well rated and sturdy. Here is a link on Amazon: amzn.to/3DfdJdR (paid link). If you are looking for a medium price range alternative with lots of storage and pockets here is a Swiss Gear Bag I recommend: amzn.to/3wJG5KF (paid link). Or for the more budget friendly bag, I would look at the Matein Travel Laptop Backpack: amzn.to/3HiCAzE (paid link). Hope that helps.

Hi Michelle. I suggest a backpack with wheels like this one on Amazon: amzn.to/3DZHgcu (paid link). I like the fact that you can still carry it on your back if needed but its small enough to fit under the seat when flying. Hope that helps. Happy Travels!
