@@AlexGray I still have my 540i but it keeps on going into "Tran faillsafe prog" and showing no faults on my scanner !, Its had 3 new batteries, all sensors checked, new transmission oil, Gearbox TCU checked and its still the same story = TRANS FAILSAFE = undrivable :( Looking online for another E39 540i !!, There are very few 540's here in UK now for sale as most of them have been broken up due to rust and rot problems and whichever 540's that are for sale are either very high mileage or they have rust issues and are a poor basic spec. My 540 is in Cosmos black with light tan leather seats and tan/grey door cards, its has the same electric padded comfort memory seats from the e38 7 series, the onboard 4:3 TV/Sat nav and a glass sunroof which I like. It is sitting on 18 inch BBS alloys and has no rust or rot underneath so this is why I'm gutted and still trying to fix it somehow. I want to find a way to ERRACE the transmission failsafe program from the transmission TCU so that the transmission computer cannot put the transmission in failsafe any more ! - I know these transmission computers were/are programmed in a factory somewhere by BMW / ZF (it is the ZF 5-30HP auto transmission), so basically I want to remove or totally disable the failsafe program and the ability for the transmission control unit to sense any problems with the transmission because I believe that the transmission is mechanically OK but there may be a break in the wiring harness somewhere which I cannot find to fix. I know that most automatic cars from the 1970's and 1980's didn't have a failsafe safety mode but people still drove their cars back then carefree so Its possible to still drive the car that does not have the trans failsafe feature, right ? as this is constantly HIJACKING MY CAR ! and stopping me from using it now :( If I could find a way to cancel out the fail safe program in the transmission TCU I know I would have my 540i back again ! :) I believe that this trans failsafe program is there to safeguard BMW not the owner ! - It is there to FORCE you to go to the BM's for a NEW TRANSMISSION ! and for BMW to make more money ! by the car holding the owner to ransom ! with its "trans failsafe prog" which is impossible to fix cheaply !
