@@ChosenInterval I agree. I don't really see how Morbid Angel can be viewed as better than Death. I don't think MA is bad, just not as interesting. It seems like they never evolved from their sound really either-from the late 1980s to the late 2010s. Death seemed to evolve with every album-better song writing, production, etc. MA might be the better traditional death metal band, but Death is the better metal band overall.

@@Chris_Hruska I’d argue that they were original. Because even if they did start with an existing song, they changed it to sound completely different. And their sound was sure as hell original. As original as any music gets, given that it’s always built on what came before. There’s also the thing that back then, IP wasn’t regarded in quite the same way that it is now. It was common for many different people to record the same song- just check out how many people recorded a jazz standard within five years or so. So it’s not surprising that they took an existing song and then made it completely their own. And there’s also the fact that of all the songs that they didn’t write, their version is always the definitive version. Every time. I’d say that makes them original enough.
@Chris_Hruska3 жыл бұрын
@@katherinemorelle7115 yea, I just love complete originality, but the more I learn about art the more I see that its all based on something that came before it. Extremely Deep Rabbit Hole. It is a very long journey to take, but a great one. They cover many genres from one album to the next. 9 albums. each with their own style. Blues, psychadelic, funk, rock, a little pop toward the end. Many heavy ballads like the Rain Song. A little reggae flare on D'yer Maker. Funk with songs like Trampled Under Foot. Folky tunes like Going to California. Heavy Blues in the first 3 albums. Since I've Been Loving You, You Shook Me, Lemon Song, and many more. Psychadelic with No Quarters. Straight up Thunder Rock with tunes like Rock N Roll, Black Dog, Song Remains the Same, Black Dog, Ramble On, Whole Lotta Love. Killer drum songs with Moby Dick, and Bonzo's Montreaux. You can not find one bad tune over all 9 albums. Take the deep dive. Gods and Legends. Each one are legendary on each instrument they play. Page with the guitar, Plant vocals, harmonica, and tambourine, Bonham on the drums, and John Paul Jones tickles the ivory, plays the bass, and even a mandolin in some.

Well said👍 They were not content to just be pigeon-holed as a hard rock band. They stretched the boundaries of music and were not afraid to take on different genres not just from album to album but from song to song. They were like at the cutting edge of music for a decade, true pioneers and everyone else followed. That is why in 2021 the younger generation discovering them for the first time are getting blown away.

You're kind of right, but not a stairwell. This was recorded in a huge house called Headley Grange. When you walk into the house, it has a VERY large wood open area in the foyer and you can see the second floor ceiling from it, and the stairs (against the wall) go up to the high second floor. The mics were tied around the upper level at the bottom of the staircase railing. Bonzo actually played in the foyer, and the echo was picked up by the mics on the second level. Cheers!
