The weird "inception-like" thing is the Mirror Dimension. It basically drags you and whoever else you want into a trippy inception-like dimension where nothing that happens to the environment (like collateral damage) actually happens to the real world. Basically makes a safe zone to fight in. Also, the symbolism of the watch is that it represents his past life as a doctor. So by choosing *not* to fix it, it symbolizes his choice to leave his old life behind and become the Sorcerer Supreme. And yes, you were right about "the least-common denominator being the Infinity Stones." We've already seen the Space and Mind Stones in Phase 1 (the Tesseract contained the Space Stone and Loki's scepter contained the Mind Stone), the Reality and Power Stones in Phase 2 (the Aether was the Reality Stone in a different state and the Orb contained the Power Stone). And now in Phase 3, you've just seen the Time Stone within the Eye of Agamotto. All that remains is the Soul Stone. But it'll be about five more movies until you see that one.

4:35 It's to keep automatic watches fully wound. Automatic watches are mechanical with a spring that needs to be kept wound to run, but there is also a rotor which will take your wrist's movement throughout the day and use that energy to wind the mainspring a tiny bit at at time. The watch winding box simulates these movements, spinning the rotor and keeping the watch fully wound. If you only have one watch that you wear every day, it's not needed, since when fully wound they typically last 30-40 hours, so plenty of power to run overnight and then get wound again the next day as you wear it.

Then the pacemaker of the heart kicks back in and hopefully is now beating in a good rhythm. It's like rebooting the heart when it isn't working right. How is it “all over the place?” It’s a focused narrative, there aren’t unnecessary subplots like in many of these movies, it progresses linearly & the characters are consistent or go through viable arcs. Sounds like very focused direction to me. Your complaint about a post credit scene not yet paying off in the future is irrelevant. No one ever said any of these movies don’t have flaws, but that criticism just doesn’t make sense. A film that actually lacks direction is one that has conflicting tones, characters acting out of character, a non linear progression, unfocused narrative, & this movie succeeds at all those far more than many other MCU movies
@py166672 жыл бұрын
@Latest Obsession You’ve done a horrible job “explaining” anything. What about the pacing is an issue? Did you want it faster paced or slower paced? What did you want to see more/less of? It has an effectively brisk pace despite introducing all new characters, a new storyline, new settings, new powers, world building. Eternals had a slower pace & it only hurt the narrative, Thor love & thunder as well as MOM were fast paced & that lead to underdeveloped narratives. What happens as a result of an after credit scene in the future is completely irrelevant to the film that it’s in, that’s an MCU problem, not a Dr Strange 1 problem. Direction IS the film, direction means every aspect of the film dude lol. The director is overseeing every aspect of production, a lack of direction implies there isn’t a focused narrative, it’s not cohesive & there are conflicting tones or story elements. Vaguely saying it lacks direction isn’t logical criticism unless you go into explicit detail explaining which elements are lacking or unfocused as well as how & why

32:38 If you know what you're doing, you can "unlock" yourself and/or others from the time reversal spell (you see Strange "unlock" Wong just after he reverses him back to life out of the rubble at 33:11). Pro: You can now act on your own. Con: You can get mowed down by all the reversing chaos--wind up drowning in a fish tank or suffocating inside a wall that's being reassembled.

Before we get close to finishing phase 3, I think we’re all gonna want to know if you’re going to react to the mcu disney+ shows. They’re very important to the mcu, they add so much that you would miss if you only watch the movie. & would it be possible to react to Non MCU movies that are still Marvel movies. There’s a few that are actually important enough to watch.

There are 3 basic watch batteries, 1: is a traditional battery (chemical battery with a crystal timer), 2: is manual winding where you spin the knob to give it power (spring powered), 3: most complicated and expensive typically are auto winding watches (they work with a weight, with movement will wind the watch spring) this is why his watches are spinning so he doesnt have to reset the time every time he puts a different watch on.

I have realized that I have a problem. There will be no Marvel Mondays for me, because I live in Europe. Sad fact. Not that I live in Europe - that part I like - but the no Marvel Mondays thing. Time zones mean that instead I get Marvel after Midnight. This sounds awesome in theory but in practice it means that it is now 2.34 am and I should have been sleeping... a while ago. But I am not and will end up rambling as a result. Ye shall all suffer because I'm European. Ye have been warned. Thanks for sharing your awesome with us, Alex, always a good time here with you - be it night or day - and we appreciate every minute of it :) /Lizz

The spinning watch thing is cause a lot of those watches don't operate on a battery, it's got a built in winder that winds when it's moving. Like my old Seiko dive watch is that way and I didn't have a drawer like that, so when I wouldn't wear it for a few days I'd have to just hold it and shake it a bunch to get it to wind up. Seal (one name artist question), and yes I've been to Hong Kong a few times, but it was back when it was still under British rule. in the early 90's it was amazing

Hey bud. Great analogy to Christopher Nolan - this definitely has an "mcu inception" vibe. It's an easy detail to miss, but Strange has an obsession with watches that subtly foreshadows the eye of agamotto and the time stone. You're also spot on about the diversity of teams - the MCU slowly expands out to encompass all of these different groups and niches: planetary heroes, regional heroes, mystical heroes, space heroes, and so on. And yes the first three phases of the MCU are officially called "The Infinity Saga" - so you're spot on noticing the infinity stones being mentioned again. Cheers.

I started reading Dr Strange books when I was about 7, so 1985 or there abouts. I was worried about this one, but they did well. It is fair to say that the guys that wrote these books were on something. They've even said as much. I've always enjoyed the stories, so I don't judge. I've a question and perhaps a suggestion, Alex. Have you ever taken the time to read poetry? I mean Classical poetry, such has Homer and the greats such as Yeats and Emerson. If the answer is no, I'd highly suggest that you take the time to do so, and I'll tell you why. In a few of the films I've watched with you, you have missed or not been able to find the meaning behind symbolism. Spending some time with the classics might very well help you, both as a presenter and frankly as a human being. There is solid gold in those works and you don't have to mine very far to find it. I'd start with Emerson, but that's just personal preference. As always, good work. I hope you, your charming wife and my fellow viewers have a lovely evening. Or time zone.

I went to Hong Kong back in 2019 before the pandemic and all the political turmoil that happened there. It was an amazing city! One of the coolest things was seeing the Symphony of Lights which is a laser light show every night that a bunch of buildings do. It makes for a beautiful skyline show, and it’s all coordinated to music. A lot of the downtown area reminds me of any big city in the US, with things like McDonald’s and KFC signs all over the place, but with some beautiful Chinese architecture everywhere. The airport there is pretty cool too. It makes for one of the top layover spots because of all the things you can do there.

The watches at 4:36 spin because they're automatic. Unlike other wristwatches that have a battery implemented in them in order to work that has to be changed after a while since they get expended, these recharge automatically by the movement of the arms of whoever wears them. The drawer in which they are stored it's made to keep their batteries working just in case their batteries get depleted and you have to spend a while moving your wrists to reactivate it.

4:37 Automatic watches don't have any batteries, but rely on motion to keep in time (i.e. the motion of your arms swinging while walking)... If automatic watches are kept still for extended periods of time, they will stop, so you will need to constantly reset the time... That spinning cabinet is used to keep automatic watches from stopping

The answer to your question, Alex, about the surgeons playing music while operating is simple. A doctor explained that it’s very common for doctors to play music during operation to keep the tension low during the procedure. My mom also told me that the doctors were playing music during her C-section

Those watches are mechanical and automatic and the moving storage bases keep them wound up and running. It simulates you wearing it on your wrist, which keeps them going. Though some still require actual winding after a while.
