I'm a big hockey fan. The Chicago Blackhawks are an original six team, a huge franchise in a large market; for decades their ownership ran the team into the ground and fans largely didn't go. I heard that the savvy Chicago fans were voting with their wallets. The Florida Panthers are... not a storied franchise. It had a Cinderalla run to the Stanley Cup Finals (getting swept, but still) in year... like, 3 or 4? Pretty early on. After that, wandering in the desert for 2 decades. Ticket sales weren't robust, and I heard that Florida can't really support a hockey team. At that point, it becomes pretty clear that it's all bullshit, it's a Rorschach test. If you feel like your team betrayed you, let you down, turned its back on you... then yeah, fuck, by all means, you shouldn't feel required to continue to support it. Loyalty is a two-way street.

Everyone in Dallas knows this already. Owners were the same family that took the Raiders to Las Vegas, same thing is gonna happen with the Mavs or they'll sell while trying. Its a win win win for all these billionaires. 1. Bring the most entertaining young player in the league to the biggest market which supports the casinos / sports betting companies they also own 2. The Mavs owners now don't have to spend any money on the Super Max, giving them another couple hundred mil in their own pockets 3. Mavs owners KNEW this reaction would happen from the fans, making it much easier to leverage their exit from Dallas 4. The explanation might be that the Mavericks are dodging the Supermax 5-year $345 million as a money-ball strategy. The arbitrary requirements for the Supermax mean the Lakers are going to get Luca for $25/year less than the Mavericks would have had to pay. Maybe the new strategy is for teams to avoid giving Supermax deals and target Supermax-level players who aren't eligible like the Lakers have done. If the Lakers win, you are going to see more of this type of deal because it is a big advantage of the salary cap.

My conclusion is that even if this conspiracy has some validity, trading luka was not the move. The biggest thing it did was put a big spotlight of public scrutiny on the owners. Quite literally gave up a generational 25 year old superstar for an aging injury proned Davis, another average player, and 1 first round pick for Luka? Teams would have EMPTIED their draft picks and probably some solid players along with it for Luka! NO GM could POSSIBLY be THAT stupid! This had to be an inside job because it just dont make sense. NO team would gift away a guy like Luka for ANY LESS than 5 1st rounders, pick swaps and haul of solid players. The Mavs could have stacked their franchise! I strongly believe the NBA is involved based on two reasons: NBA make hundreds of millions dollars more a year if Lakers are top tier team and this has happened before....Gale Goodrich for Magic Johnson, Abdul Jabbar for scraps, Pau Gasol for scraps. The NBA does not have to do this that often because fake trades is just one of its tools in the toolbox. Lakers always have free agency as well to cover up general manager mediocrity.
