This masterclass covers so many aspects and is really refreshing. It helped me stepping back a little and starting to "'think" more about what i"m actually doing rather than just relying on muscle memory. I highly recommend this masterclass. Thanks for the great work Alex

Excellent lesson! Melodic minor starting on scale degree ii is almost like Dorian, but with a major seventh, which in the context of the dominant is a flat five, so we are getting a partly altered sonority. So clever and cool sounding! Additionally I dig the approach you suggest, based on three tools, arpeggio-type fragments, sliding scale (major penta, right?) and the BB King blues triangle. As you put it, each is a worthy entry point, and moreover, each of those devices is a way of breaking out of the pattern of the two remaining ones. So you are not just an outstanding guitarist, but also a great teacher! Thank you for sharing knowledge here. 🙏

Love your JTC Masterclass packages Alex. Thanks for creating them👍🏻. I’ve got a question (If you have time to answer it) to do with the section on diatonic modes, in your second JTC Masterclass package. My question is; Do you keep the same seven Major scale positional names in your mind when playing the other modes, instead of re-numbering them each time you change modes? Considering it’s still the same seven patterns. If I change the positional/pattern names, each time I play a different mode my brain can freeze up. Do you think it’s better to keep the same positional names of the “seven diatonic scale pattens,” instead of mentally changing them each time the mode changes? Hope you get my question, as i know it’s more to do with the “thought process.” Thanks.
@AlexHutchingsMusic
@AlexHutchingsMusic 4 жыл бұрын
Hey jazz notes, I'm really pleased you're enjoying the masterclass’ It's a great question and to be honest I think for consistency sake it is better to think of the same numbers even when playing in different modes. For example in the back of my mind Dorian, is always the second position MixoLydian is always the fifth position etc etc This is also handy because it correlates to the relative chord quality as well. As you say though this is a “thought process” so everyone may think of it differently but this is the way I choose to think about it Thank you for purchasing this masterclass and I'm very pleased you're getting a lot from it. All the best on your musical journey
@jazznotes3802

@@AlexHutchingsMusic. It’s nice to know I’m not the odd one out thinking about the 3NPS patterns/positions in this way. Memorising the seven positions/patterns, then re-naming them (seven more times, for every other mode) always seemed like unnecessary extra work for the brain. Anyway, thank you Alex for responding to my question, I really do appreciate it.
