I loved this method, there's no gray area finally 😊, emm.. I just confused how to connectting this major scale with 5 pentatonic positions?
@juliangall3 жыл бұрын
This is a very helpful way to look at the neck and approach learning it. I enjoyed it. However, as the video is for people who don't already know this, it might be less confusing if you tuned your guitar to standard tuning, which presumably 99.9% of your target audience use. Also, it might help beginners if you pointed out where the root was in each of the positions. Without that, it becomes about modes which, as you say, is a topic for another video.
@AlexHutchingsMusic3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comments mate, and a very fair point, the Charts on screen are actually written for Standard tuning and even playing in 4ths there is only 1 fret difference on the top two strings which I hope i made clear. The reason for me not tuning to standard is simply to honour my own decision to play this way and who knows it may peak someones interest to check out an alternative way to play the guitar. Thank you for checking out the video and I'm glad you enjoyed it. All the best
@shredjoe13 жыл бұрын
Hi julingall 4ths tuning has many advantages over standard. if you are a legato/tapping type player then its more symmetrical logical layout of scales is much easier to play runs etc fast & learn. You can cover 99% of the octave using 3 notes shapes 1 3 & 5 in 4ths. Best way to learn modes is by learning the interval set over a backing cos played on their own scale shapes it's hard to hear the modal flavour. (well it is for me!) Take the plunge & go 4ths! Alex has produced a set of good posts on 4ths & they're a great place to start. Great post Alex. PS You playing on Steven Wilson's 2021 tour?
@AlexHutchingsMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@shredjoe1 Cheers MAte, I'm not sure about the 2021 tour as yet, Steven could well change up the band for this one but if he were to ask me I'd be up for it, the last tour was a real blast. All the best Joe.

Hi Alex, just wanted to confirm if you've memorized every position in 3 notes per string of a scale(Modes, Bebop, Phrygian Dominant) for your visualization? By the way, I've asked this because I'm already on the Volume 2 of your JTC's Approach to Improvisation. Also, is it quite overwhelming to memorized all those shapes/positions? Thanks a lot!
@AlexHutchingsMusic3 жыл бұрын
Hey Patrick, thanks for watching and for your question.... Unfortunately the answer is yes... But... what I will say is, the most important ones are all positions of Major and Melodic minor in my opinion..... Bebop is basically the same of major just adding one note so don't worry too much about that one and Phrygian dominant I'd say just learn the First and 5th position to get started as these scale are used less frequently. I hope that helps.... Thank you for purchasing the masterclass by the way and I hope you're enjoying it. ;-)

Hi Alex, thanks a lot for your response and confirmation. 🙂 Yup! I'm learning a lot from your masterclass. Totally enjoyed and still digesting the concepts from Vol. 1 and now learning the Vol. 2. Thanks again! 🙂
@AlexHutchingsMusic3 жыл бұрын
@@patrickglennescosa6980 That's fantastic mate, I'm pleased you're learning a lot from it... As and when you're ready the finale Vol.3 deals more with techniques too which in turn should hopefully help with learning 'how' to play a lot of the licks.... But there's no rush even if you got that 6 months from now or not at all... just thought I'd mention it... Anyway Patrick have a great rest of your day and catch up soon. ;-)
@patrickglennescosa69803 жыл бұрын
Hi Alex, yup I have the Vol. 3 of your masterclass as well. 🙂 In Vol. 1, I've really enjoyed lots of the concepts you've mentioned and tried to play with the backings it contains which also helps a lot due to the "click" sounds before the changes. I've particularly enjoyed the sliding scale. 🙂 For Vol. 2, I'm learning the scales but with the approach of fragments and intervals too. After Vol. 2, I'll tackle Vol. 3. 🙂 I must say your masterclass boxset is really good and awesome. I believe it is a must have! 🙂 By the way, thanks a lot for interacting with us fans! It means a lot! Also, looking forward to your album and uploads here in KZbin. 🙂
