Drag race newbie here. What is it the crew chiefs are doing when they look at each other just before the staging.

It's like the unwritten rules of baseball or hockey....you don't roll in to stage until the other team is ready to roll in to stage. Occasionally, one team may have an issue with their car (starting, backing up, leaks, etc) and as competitors you want to compete, so you give as much time as possible for the other team to at least stage the car. With the Fuel classes, it isn't much time at all (I've waited about as long as 20-25 seconds and that's an eternity... but giving 5-10 seconds is customary) as the heat in the clutch, the engine temperatures and the weight of the fuel (think in terms of weight and balance as well as fuel capacity/ consumption) being major factors into the car making a decent run, let alone a good run. Winning is much more satisfying if the other team had a "fair" chance to stage and your team beats them heads up. Winning because the other team red lighted didn't feel all that good either unless you knew the other team was taking a a shot in the dark because we had been running much better over the course of the weekend/ season....then it didn't feel bad at all HAHAHAHA! As a crew guy, the most satisfying wins were hole shot wins (we had a higher elapsed time yet crossed the finish line first) just because it seemed to bond the crew with the driver even more. When I was on a particular team that was the first to reach a couple of MPH and ET milestones nearly 20 years ago, I enjoyed the "soul crushing" runs too....everyone else is running nearly a tenth or more off our pace and 10 MPH slower. That thing was a beast but it didn't win as many races as is should have. I'm not gonna go into the details of that team but to time stamp it for you, it was when we were running 95-98% Nitromethane in the tank and racing to 1320 feet.

I assume she is from Asia, as she did not mention Scott Kalitta, in her list of "Thank You's." The Heat Of The Moment etc. Anyway, thank you, LitbyNoonProductions.

She's not from Asia. Why would she mention Scott? He'd been gone for several years at this point. Was killed in 2008.

Herbert Kraft But the girls in NHRA add a huge fresh component to the sport. I would watch NHRA over NFL, any day of the week.
