As opposed to what other era in American history? America has always been a nation of self gratification and consumerism. Alcohol, Gambling, Drugs, Money, lavish and flashy lifestyles, Mansions, Stocks, “The American Dream”. This has always existed in America, the only difference between now and the past is that we have technology and social media to push this ideal of the western image of “success” and the “good life” with all the negative vices attached to that image in the guise of something positive.
@Highonlife24 Жыл бұрын
And PragerU makes bs claims that isn’t backed up by any study or evidence. They just make statements that already appeals to the confirmation bias of their fan base because they know they won’t be checked on it because no one who is a fan of PragerU questions them.
@SupHapCak Жыл бұрын
I think the difference is petty gratification at your fingertips vs working your whole life and having it pay off. The things you listed are the worst of all humanity and not exclusively American sins.
@Highonlife24 Жыл бұрын
@@SupHapCak Petty gratification at my fingertips for simply stating in opinion on a public platform? Where I’m not even making any personal attacks against the speaker, just the points they are making that I disagree with? While you feel the need to defend said person when they aren’t even being personally attacked. Which shows you greatly admire them and get mad when someone is arguing with their points you already agree with. So I must ask, who’s really the one getting the gratification through their fingertips, because evidence points to you. And while I agree that the problems I listed aren’t exclusive to America you completely missed the point of my comment. Wilkins is making the claim that America was better as opposed to now listing things like addiction, depression, and escapism being the thing that caused us to lose our way. But that has always been an issue in America, while not exclusive to America, no other country promotes over indulgence, addiction, escapism, and consumerism and greed like the US. Never have and never will.

@@SupHapCakAnd plus she’s saying that there no longer a military draft like it’s a bad thing. I’m sorry but that is a very silly statement. Who wants to watch their loved ones get drafted and possibly never see the again as they die in war. The fact there is no draft is a good thing and only a good thing. Saying anything different makes sound like an unhinged war hawk.

Today's generation is a bunch of self entitled, lazy, narcissistic, friendless people who refuse to look beyond themselves. The ill use of social media and a desire for fame, which flies in the wind as influencers are replaceable as a worn out rag, makes our current generation sad and pathetic. Despite the increase of moral and social decay around us, it's good to see that there are many who are waking up and taking a stand and a voice.

What we have is a large disagreement of what this country's governments should be doing for its people. Being critical of the country and authoroties doesn't mean you are not a patriot. Its actually the opposite. It means you love the country so much that you want to make it better and fix the gaps in its scope. And, as a GenZ person, growing up in the 2000s and 2010s..... @@CarportCarl I would argue that feeling depressed and depression are very seperate things. The feeing of being depressed, whether because of a breakup or a bad day, or just your mind being stupid again, is aboslutely very solvable by fresh air and excersize and a nice shower. However, having depression, the mental illness that psychologists still barely understand is not as simple as "get fresh air" like no, that isn't going to solve the most common and debiliting mental illness in the world that no one really knows why it happens.

They need to go outside and play. Yes, even the adults. I took zero drugs growing up and played a limited amount of video games because I was outside enjoying life. Unless you're getting paid to play, video games are mostly a waste of time, as amusing as they are. You're better off reading something that will play to your advantage in the game called life. Play sports, work out, jog, or do something artistic, play an instrument, ect, or volunteering your time to help others can be gratifying and certainly not a waste of your time. Point is, stop trying to escape. Live. disclaimer: does not apply to people with extreme conditions such as paralysis, social phobias other serious conditions.
