I also agree as a woman that is 55 years old I grew up on a farm woodstoves horses cattle a whole gambit of critters literally 1000 acre farm cut tobacco every year. I was called Butch from about the age of 15 all the way through high school and well into my early 30s, I’ve naturally had muscles bigger than yours Alexis so you need not worry so much you’re absolutely stunning. I wish I still had some of the musculature that I did back then and even throughout my marriage got a health kick and started working out and my husband told me to stop because my muscles were getting bigger than his, so your muscles are not a thing it just looks like you go to the gym on a regular! So relax you look absolutely stunning but beyond your looks your personality and your intelligence is beyond stunning so Liam got lucky! And as far as him and his needle issue, I saw a comment about someone stating that he was covered in tattoos. They are not the same needles, not even close. I also am covered in tattoos so people who don’t have tattoos. Don’t get that one needle goes 2 inches into your body and tattoos are surface. Not even close but you are absolutely adorable together. Keep up all that you’re doing! I’m just glad I’m not the only older lady out here watching your content, enjoying it and getting an education, all in the same token. Stay Gorgeous!!! I had to add that I love watching you guys you’re so real and it literally comes across like we’re sitting in the same room. Unlike some KZbinrs where it feels like you’re looking at a movie or a script, you guys come across as a real conversation I don’t know any other way to word it, but You always make me smile and the interaction in between you to the nuances that we can see I think is what makes it feel so real and right there in the same room. I'm biological woman but birth control pill which I was on a higher dose of estrogen in it caused me pulmonary embolisms in both lungs I almost died I was only 24 yrs old with a new baby and a toddler.im now 65 the multiple scar tissue in both lungs are now causing problems I find out if a couple those scars turned into cancer tomrrow

I’ve been on HRT re transition for 35 years and post bottom surgery for 32 years . I take tablets and I’m now 64 with no adverse effects except my emotions are erratic, I can feel teary by just seeing a cartoon character be injured. In fact I’m very healthy.

Also I agree with Liam, in terms of allowing time for physical development to happen naturally. Hormones work their magic over the course of years. In the meantime, think of how much you can enhance your look with clever tailoring & fashion. As a biological female who is naturally narrow through this area too, I've learned that mini "skater" or circle skirts can give a cute "bustle"-like appearance, with lots of movement. You have a figure like a fashion model & can try so many different looks!

I quite perked up when you mentioned prostate cancer. Frankly, the reason that I follow (and befriend) as many trans gals as I do is because they're familiar with the hormone routine that I have for my cancer. Trust me, not a lot of cis guys are eager to talk about this (especially given the side effects), but trans gals are. My cancer showed up several years back, and they initially were trying to treat it via radiation therapy. Well, it laughed off the regular radiation, and then the fancy new "CyberKnife" radiation, and after a few years of my waltzing through Chernobyl, I was back to square one. Neither my oncologist or my urologist wanted to do surgery on me, so I was faced with either the hormone treatment, or some more exotic/experimental therapies. I have now been on the Lupron shots and Zytiga pills for a number of years ... which I understand is, in many cases, the same T-blockers that trans gals use. These have worked, pushing down my PSA (prostate specific antigen) numbers to being indistinguishable from zero, but they have changed me in ways that I wouldn't have preferred. I keep joking that I'm a few estrogen shots away from being "Brenda"! Pity I didn't have gender dysphoria going in.

Lupron has been seen to cause bone density problems in growing children, because it has been copiously subscribed as ‚Puberty blocker‘. I‘m not sure if that still applies to a grown adult, but it might be nice checking your bone density via an x-Ray as is done for women after we start menopause

13:53 both males and females have breast tissue, however for females and trans women the increased amount of estrogen and progesterone increase the risk of breast cancer. So although males are not likely to get breast cancer, they should still pay attention to any changes that are occurring near breast tissue, breast tissue covers from the bottom of the sternum all the way up to the collarbone and to the shoulders, if something suddenly changes such as a lump or pain, talk to a doctor, this goes for females too.

The first trans woman I met, was when I was on clinical placement and she had breast cancer. She had to stop taking her estrogen because it was feeding her cancer and this caused some of her biological male features to start to return. She was a beautiful person and it broke my heart watching her die. Not only did she have to deal with breast cancer which had metastasised, she had to emotionally deal with her male features returning. This was when trans women weren't accepted as much as they are now. 💔.

Oh, bless you, Liam! I have panic disorder and ADHD. The ADHD worsens frantic thoughts. When I got diagnosed with ADHD and got on meds that pretty much went away which boggles my mind since ADHD meds are stimulants! Also, directly to speak to the trans health topic, please do not ignore the risks to the biology you have as a trans person. I basically paid for my negligence BIGTIME recently. I neglected to get a pap smear for a long time out of discomfort. Neglected horrible blood clots coming out vaginally because I thought they'd stop. Days after that clot stuff my hemoglobin sunk to 6.5 and I had to get 2 blood transfusions. The first one was useless because the hospital used a crappy drug on me that didn't work to stop the bleeding (evil insurance). Had to take a damn ambulance to the hospital AGAIN less than 24 hours later and get a second blood transfusion. Do I even want to guess how much my medical bills will be?? I live in the United States. Trying to get a hysterectomy now, but there are hoops to jump through. Praying it gets scheduled soon.

Alexis you are right. We Trans people want everything NOW. LOL I went for a brow and lid lift and asked in the interview if he could do a breast augmentation at the same time. Yes no problem. I thought I was ok with that untill a facelift and neck reduction was mentioned. Got that to. Within 6 months I went to Bangkok for m SRS. I never had complications to speak of and was never concerned about not surviving. My next project is a smaller waistline. Diet and exercise for the next 6 months and then abdominal surgery and liposuction.

So the thing with estrogen and immunity, there are actually limited studies regarding transwomen (something I am very interested in because I research how immunity is regulated and how aging, autoimmunity, and/or environmental exposures affect that regulation), but basically all immune cells, from the blood stem cells in the bone marrow through the functional cells, have estrogen receptors. Why I personally think it makes sense that transwomen taking estrogen would have stronger immune responses and protection is that there are studies indicating the postmenopausal women that don't take estrogen replacement have vaccine responses that are less protective, similarly to normal male responses, but women with estrogen replacement have responses similarly to young women.

Personally I think quite a few years of research needs to go into this because from my experience as a biological woman, the sickest I've ever been was during my pregnancies, I was always getting some kind of flu strain. And a woman will produce more oestrogen during a pregnancy than any other time in her life. My immune system still hasn't recovered from my last pregnancy 4 years ago, I'm pretty prone to infections now, even a pimple can turn into a nasty infection, and wounds take months to heal and end up scarring. So I'm not so sure about oestrogen having an effect like that on the immune system

@cake94309 oh, that's a very different situation. The immune system actually is repressed during pregnancy to keep the fetus from being attacked by the maternal immune system. It's not a foolproof fix, but it's enough with the fetus being somewhat sequestered. There are several case studies indicating that women with rheumatoid arthritis have a strong reduction in symptoms during pregnancy, which is why women tend to get sick during pregnancy.

Sonographer here from South Africa... So from a medical field aspect, men (CIS) can also get breast cancer. Everyone has breast tissue, men's breasts are just not as developed. Male breast cancer is generally more aggressive, so men should PLEASE also check their breasts. Then on another topic, as a Sonographer, it can be so confusing to be doing a scan on a "woman" and then come across a prostate instead of a uterus and ovaries. Please be honest with your healthcare providers so that they can be prepared for what they might see. With a less experienced person, it can then be diagnosed as a mass instead of just normal male anatomy

Alexis, first I you gave me make up tips, then it was confirming I wasn't crazy about going full speed and wanting HRT (haven't starting but look like I will in roughly 60 hours and 6 mins but who's counting) now, and with this video the health concerns I should have. I am transitioning later in life because I finally am at a place where I can (my military service, therapy, etc.). It sounds like one of the medications I will be on...I was already on due to prostate cancer since it lowers the testosterone level, I didn't even think to remember that. I have discovered in the recent past that I am much better at being the patient than I am the loved one of the patient. I’m disabled, and I’ve had about 40 surgeries in my 38 years. Most of them minor, quite a few of them major. I’m got over being scared of surgery when I was a child. However, sitting in a waiting room while my husband was in surgery was really nerve-wracking for me. My husband is very good at being the loved one of the patient, and less so the patient. Although, to be fair, he’s not terrible at that either.

I'm a trans woman and I believe getting oestrogen from transdermal sources is better than oral. As I understand it, oral oestrogen is metabolised through the liver first whereas oestrogen absorbed transdermally goes directly into the bloodstream and has an opportunity to be used by the body before being metabolised by the liver. I get oestrogen implants and they typically last 1-2 years - much better than having to daily apply gel or patches twice a week - I've used both before getting implants.

Enjoyed this, thank you both x I was on pills when I was with Gendercare. Since I've gone over to NHS care I'm on gel instead of pills. Pills can be bad on your liver. I miss taking the pills. There so much easier to take. With gel you have to wait about 30 minutes for the gel to sink into your skin before putting clothing on that area. Curious to know what testosterone blocker you are on Alexis x

I had sinus surgery 38 years ago, I was told by staff before hand that women are always easier for that procedure, apparently they recently had a high up soldier & rugby player in tears prior to the surgery, so don't feel bad Liam. Only thing after my surgery I felt awful, and I quickly understood how someone can get hooked on morphine, did bug all for the pain just did not care. Though my recovery not helped by having a six month old to look after. What hurt worse was I was in a private hospital ( private health ins came with my job ) but was in no condition to enjoy it.

I’m a (50) years old transsexual woman , and in my generation being stealth was extremely important because being trans was so extremely taboo in mid to late nineties (1995-1996). Actually, it was thought of as the worst thing to be, so being stealth and blending in was mandatory for existence. October of 95 that’s when I started medically transitioning , and I followed the Harry Benjamin guidelines for transsexual people. Anyway, I’m getting off topic that’s my ADD, so he’s not alone 😂. I had to tell my therapist that while walking through a bunch of young black youth yesterday my gender dysphoria went into overdrive, so I actually channeled you based on what you shared when you and Liam was vacationing and the older couple kept looking in your direction, and the mature mindset you had about it by acknowledging you realize your whole story is empowering and commendable, and by channeling you yesterday it gave me the strength to walk pass that group of young black ppl and not get overwhelmed by how they’re perceiving me. Channeling you gave me the strength to dial down my gender dysphoria and acknowledge that it’s par for the course. Some people may figure out I’m transgender and some may not, and actually some may not give a damn it’s all in my head. The things you share is actually helpful to the community as a whole, and speaking as an older black woman of trans experience you and Liam authenticity is inspirational so thank Alexis, and I’m a spiritual person so hopefully I’m not offending you when I write this. The BBL is very risky but I believe there are other surgeries involving implants to enlarge and round your hips and bottom. But there are also specific work out routines you can do to target those muscle groups to lift, grow and round them. Biological women that aren't blessed in that area do them all the time there are even personal trainors that specalize in growing that area specifically as well as exercise regimens you can find (some of them you have to pay for) where they write out the entire plan of what you need to do to target that area.

From what I understand from friends who have breast implants - when they get their mammo done, they say the implant is not in danger of being smashed, because the technician shoves it toward the center of your chest, and then the breast & underarm flesh is the only part that's pressed into the scanner. It isn't as horrible as I'm making it sound, I'm sure! Maybe someone who's actually dealt with this situation can explain it better! anyway, don't worry Alexis, I know it will be fine 💖

FYI the longer breast implants are in the more susceptible to rupture. Not so much these days with improved materials, but its still possible. And it is therefore possible that a mammogram "could" cause an implant to rupture. I recommend anyone with an implant over 10years to consider ultrasounds as a viable option. As always self examination cant be over emphasised.

I will never forget one of my nursing instructors saying when they put you out for surgery, you are as close as possible to being dead without being dead. They can cut into you without you feeling it! Since you are on estrogen , you do need to monitor for breast cancer. A transwoman I know died from metastatic breast cancer discovered during shoulder surgery.

Non trans men can get breast cancer, as well. A well known American talk show host, Montel Williams, tells story about being a man with breast cancer. I had a severely deviated septum. I don't have a fear of needles (having Lupus, I'm a human pincushion, lol) but I have a significant fear of IV's. I attribute this to having watched medical dramas from the time I was quite young. I also had a tumor the size of a golf ball on my thyroid, so I asked the surgeon if he could do both at the same time. He'd never done that before but it was bargain shopping for surgeries!

Estrogen and progesterone are anti-inflammatory. They lower in women during our period, that’s why we are more prone to get sick/run down at that time of the month. So it makes sense… it’s why older women feel better taking estrogen as well

hi both , Hormones and the different types , there are 4 main ones pill, gel , patch , injection , Pill , taken orally its passage is through the stomach and Liver and considered the least effective by some , also because of the way its absorbed thought to be higher risk of side effects lie clotting . gel , absorbed through the skin but not accurate on dosage as variations in amount used on application . Patch , also absorbed through the skin when applied either weekly or twice weekly and more accurate dosage as patches release a daily amount also thought to carry a lower clotting risk , Injection , thought to be the most effective as travels into the bloodstream quickly as patches and Gel before getting to the liver and kidneys , so that's a basic description i hope will be helpful my own method is Patches due to the lower clotting risk needed due to age .

God I love you guys. So I take oestrogel, progesterone spironolactone and finasteride and these seem to work well for me. My boob job I had loads of swelling and an infection, and I do actually have another consultation for some More plastic surgery for next year. I’m seriously considering a 360 lipo and a neck lift but have no desire for a bbl as I already have wide hips. I’m also looking into chromosome test as I have some intersex characteristics that I want to understand

As a clinician and a transwoman I can atest to the fact that there is no scientific evidence that women get ill less than men. However it is fairly well recognised that men suffer more from lifestyle complaints and have greater morbidity due to the fact that they generally don't seek medical intervention as early as women. Sadly Liam surgeons are often ‘cold’ / they ‘have’ to be to be able to the job… Alexis, anaesthesia is fascinating. How you are as you go under is how you wake up generally … it’s actually just oxygen given to pre oxygenate you, but patient’s think it’s making them ‘sleepy’ - keep your eye on the nurse with syringes… that puts you under…

I love biggie!!!! The estrogen cream doesn't work as well. I'm a born female and had to have a complete hysterectomy at age 30 because of complications during childbirth. I had to start synthetic hormones. Patch works better than cream but the pills work best. At least for me. I'm 68 so I haven't been on estrogen for awhile so it could have improved.

I am on Spirolonactone and it’s used by bio men to lower testosterone along with other drugs. I was worried it would lowery bone mass too (I am a bio woman who takes it for acne) but apparently (I have been told) it only lowers it for men because with women our natural elevated estrogen protects us? I don’t know about men who also take estrogen, but I do know a trans woman and she does have a doctor watching over her to help with this stuff. I really don’t know this whole subject is actually rather complex and every body is different. Actually if anyone can tell me more about Spirolonactone I’d be very happy!!

Hear me out here, Alexis and Liam because I like and admire you both but - I've looked into the early trans women 'pioneers' of the 1960's who had vaginoplasty under Georges Burou in Casablanca. April Ashley, Jan Morris, Coccinelle and (I think) Amanda Lear. Not to mention plenty of other people who were not so well known. They all lived to a pretty ripe old age and his surgery technique was said to be both aesthetically and functionally - well, pretty miraculous. There's anecdotal evidence from down the years from, let's say, third parties, who have been on record saying, 'You wouldn't have known.' My point is, that in the democratisation of trans surgery, the standard seems to have gone down instead of up. Basically, if Georges Burou could do it so well, with minimal complications sixty years ago, what went wrong? I've got a few ideas but in any case, the life story of Georges Burou, his wife 'Nanou' the Casablanca clinic and their extraordinary patients is quite fascinating. All the best x
