In 1940 Pilecki volunteered to allow himself to be captured by the occupying Germans in order to infiltrate the Auschwitz concentration camp. At Auschwitz he organized a resistance movement that eventually included hundreds of inmates, and he secretly drew up reports detailing German atrocities at the camp, which were smuggled out to Home Army headquarters and shared with the Western Allies. After escaping from Auschwitz, Pilecki fought in the Warsaw Uprising of August-October 1944. Following its suppression, he was interned in a German prisoner-of-war camp. After the communist takeover of Poland he remained loyal to the London-based Polish government-in-exile. In 1945 he returned to Poland to report to the government-in-exile on the situation in Poland. Before returning, Pilecki wrote Witold's Report about his Auschwitz experiences, anticipating that he might be killed by Poland's new communist authorities. In 1947 he was arrested by the secret police on charges of working for "foreign imperialism" and, after being subjected to torture and a show trial, was executed in 1948.

Witold Pilecki was a captain at the beginning of the war. After the occupation of Poland by the Germans and Russians, he joined the Polish Resistance Movement (AK). Later, he embarked on an extraordinary mission - voluntarily getting into Auschwitz to find out what was happening there and to create a resistance movement. Despite the initial lack of permission, he eventually obtained it. After spending 2 years in the camp, he simply escaped. After this he also participated in the Warsaw Uprising. He survived the war but continued his fight, this time against the Russians. However, in 1947r., he was apprehended and sentenced to death for "betrayal"

@@MiniDevilDF yes. Technically he didn't singlehandedly capture 130+ Germans since no man could round up and corral 130+ men. But he did go on a killing spree, actually singlehandedly killing those 25 Germans. It's because of this that the others captured. When they saw their comrades getting cut down, they thought there was a huge force of American soldiers attacking them, not one man. Because of this, they dropped all their weapons and equipment, and only then did the other men come out and help.

@@GoofyAhOklahoma Nothing about what he did was singlehandedly, and that's part of what some of the controversy was about. He had his entire squad with him, and together they did it. To those who don't know... Audie Murphy: The most decorated American soldier in WW2, earned the Medal of Honor for his immense courage in combat. Witold Pilecki: A Polish resistance fighter, voluntarily went to Auschwitz to gather intelligence, making him a heroic figure. Desmond Doss: A conscientious objector, saved 75 men during the Battle of Okinawa without a weapon, symbolizing courage and non-violence. Jack Churchill: Known as "Mad Jack," used a longbow and sword in combat, making him an eccentric and fearless British officer. Lyudmila Pavlichenko: A Soviet sniper, had 309 confirmed kills, becoming a symbol of female courage and skill in WW2.

Battle of Osuchy Those who were found before they died or fell into German hands defended themselves fiercely, the death of Lt. "Woyna" became legendary, who defended himself so fiercely that he killed a dozen or perhaps several dozen Germans, and died only after throwing a large number of grenades. .
