Amazing welding as always. Awesome to see the entire process, shows people a small glimpse of how much work goes into on of these manifolds.

Thank you, my friend. Manifolds are a labor of love, but, a decade later, it's still enjoyable to see them come together.

Amazing work and attention to detail. I love your manifold build videos. Very inspiring. Its wild how you can anticipate the stainless shrinkage with your runners. Major props.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you've found value in them and am happy you've taken the time to come along for the ride. Compensating for primaries moving isn't a perfect science, but it does help provide a better end product. I've screwed it up more times than I can count over the years, but have a good system now. I typically leave more material than necessary to provide the opportunity to grind and tailor the pipes to fit to my liking. It's easier to remove material than it is to add it in this instance.

Thank you for your kind words and support. I have to be careful with how much I show of the build process for these particular manifolds, as they're still a product I sell. I tried to find a happy medium of showing enough to be interesting without compromising what I've worked hard to design and develop.

Just curious when you were doing the 3 dots in the bevel was that just to clock things and keep them aligned? On another note you are killing it as always man.
@AlexLindner
@AlexLindner Жыл бұрын
You hit the nail on the head - they're alignment dots. I started marking joints that way as opposed to three lines to speed up the process. Lines require clean up, otherwise they'll be burnt onto the metal. However, I accomplish the same alignment with the dots and can weld over them without causing aesthetic issues.

those are some sexy welds, i'd love to see a vid explaining how you do those deep welds inbetween 2 pipes

Thank you for your kind words. Which welds are you specifically referring to? I may be able to film a segment on it in a future episode.
@themechanic932
@themechanic932 Жыл бұрын
@@AlexLindner it's on the part where you split from 1 pipe into 3, seen in the beginning of the video, the welds running length wise. a part of the weld runs say on top of it, but then they sorta drop inbetween two pipes.

Thats a very cool design. I built my first 2jz manifold recently and went with a 621 design. I used 1.5" secondary runners because my setup will have no more than 600hp. I figured this might provide better response. Do you have any experience experimenting with different sized runners? At what point would 2" secondaries be favorable? I haven't had a chance to try it out yet and these questions keep me up at night lol.
@AlexLindner
@AlexLindner Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your kind words, and I'm glad to hear you've built your own manifold. I haven't done much experimentation with different secondary sizing on these manifolds, although I did build a tri-Y BMW manifold years ago with 1.25" primaries and 1.5" secondaries that seemed to perform well. I haven't seen or had it reported to me that 2" secondaries cause elongated spool times or issues with transient response, so I've continued to do what I know works. This has proven true on T4 turbochargers of all sizes and a wide array of uses (street, drag, drift, etc). However, I encourage you to theorize and experiment rather than just take my word for it; I'm a caveman and could be wrong about everything.

Like the tig welding videos. When you weld two pieces of material together is that real time ? I 'm a diy tig welder been practicing off and on, seem like when i take a break from frustration I get slightly better. I know the more practice the better you'll get, but practicing can be very expensive with argon, tungsten and material to weld with. Any tips on amperage with .065 stainless have a 3/32 tungsten with 1/16 filler rod that i'm practicing with, should I choose a thinner filler rod ? I know there's other factors with tig welding just trying to get some set up specs amperage, gas flow etc. if any one in the comments or diy welders can you chime in as well thanks in advance. I love the videos gives me ideas for my build.

Thank you for your kind words. I'm unsure what you mean by "is it real time"; can you clarify? It isn't a skill set that's developed overnight. I've experienced the same phenomenon you described of taking a break when it becomes frustrating, and I believe that's a good tool to employ to keep overall forward momentum going. Amperage on the weld you've described depends, and truthfully isn't very important. Typically I set my machine to around 75A for 16ga stainless welds, but my technique may not work for everyone. I suggest thinner filler rod as well. For thin wall stainless, I like to use 0.045" filler at the largest, with 0.035" being preferable for butt welds. I suggest practicing and learning to read the puddle. What I mean by that is learning what your inputs do in relation to the outputs you see through your welding hood. Puddle width, travel speed, how you deposit filler, etc. It will be frustrating at first, but it will make you a better welder overall the less reliant you are on a specific amperage setting rather than how you're manipulating the torch, filler, and controls in real time. Hopefully that makes sense.
