What I find it funny is how Padgett's friend really went all in to basically *ruin her life* (stealing her boyfriend, making her effectively lose her source of income and so on), and she did all that *to become Prom Queen* I just love how US movies set in high school make being a Prom Queen such a HUGE deal that people would go out of the way like that to become one. It's never explicitly said that she's embarrassed of that. Actually, her friends know her mom is a nurse and I believe she tells Cameron at some point as 'a matter of fact' and not really as a confession. They make it look like if Padgett would've never thought that her mom's profession would hint on her true household income. So weird, I know. But well, when her friends confront her about it, they actually start with that piece of info, as to say that "Dah, it's a no brainer". Personally I think that's just lazy writing. The only way Padgett could've sustained such a big lie for so many years is if she had a tangled web of lies going on. She could've explained her supposedly rich life if she had a real or imaginary rich dad living somewhere else who allegedly supported her and her mom, then the lie could've had a greater impact. Also, it's very strange how supportive her mom is with it. It would be a different story if she had just come clean about her income and said that everything she had was made out from her hard work. I think that's cooler than a your parent's wallet, because from what they show in the movie, she was doing pretty good for a teenager.
