If you’re shopping for a new Lexus RX, you might want to hold off until til you’ve driven the new Nautilus. Unless you really want a plug in hybrid, this Lincoln does everything else quite simply better than the Lexus RX.

This is the first Lincoln ever to catch my eye. I don't know if it's because its such a vast improvement over what I am used to seeing from the brand, or if it's my ever-advancing age (turning 46 in a few weeks). Either way, good job Lincoln/Ford!

I'm not a big fan of the piano key shifter, BUT I do appreciate that they put that in instead of a rotary one next to the all-too-similar looking and feeling volume nob. I was maneuvering a Genesis in our parking lot today, thought I had shifted from R to D, but no! I turned down the volume on the already muted system and didnt notice until I let my foot off the brake and realised I was still going backward.

Finally someone gets it. Not everyone is looking for "dynamism" in their luxury SUVs (looking at you BMW & Audi) with a firm ride. Given the amount of potholes in my area, I want a soft ride and all the creature comforts, effortless power would be nice too (i.e. good pickup without having to constantly downshift).

Alex, at around 16:10 you discuss the buttons on the steering wheel that display the options that would normally go on a head-up display but on this vehicle are displayed on the way-back screen (an idea I like though I would need to check out the vehicle to make sure that, in my preferred seating position, I can see the display over the top of the steering wheel.) So my question is, do you feel like Lincoln did a better job than Lexus (with their (I think) capacitive touch controls on the steering wheel that display options for the head-up display) in implementing that feature?
@AAutoBuyersGuide

Yes, it's much more visible than the HUD for the touch buttons.

I like it. This is really the first Lincoln that doesn't have any Ford influences from the get go. The 2.0T hybrid is the perfect blend of power & MPG, something the RX 350h focuses more on the latter. Sucks that there is no PHEV option given how high tech the interior design is. The RX looks more conventional but I'm not sure if the older buyers would be keen on the contextual buttons and configurable displays.

Alex, great review as per usual, and a very intriguing vehicle! How much of the 48" screen can you allocate to Apple CarPlay? It didn't look like it was very much, but I'm hoping there is the ability to make the map occupy quite a bit more space on the way-back (48") screen. And I agree with you that the 360 degree camera display should occupy more of the screen. I wonder if it's the same size as the Apple CarPlay map display...

I'm looking forward to hearing how BlueCruise performs on the Nautilus. Hopefully you'll have a chance to test that when you get a review loaner. Looking at the owner's manual, initially it appears Lincoln really did not fully utilize the 48" screens for BlueCruise notifications. Instead, it looks like all they did was just use the bland, easy-to-miss BlueCruise steering wheel icon on the driver's side screen.

I wonder why Ford uses their 2.0 more then the 2.3. The fuel savings is negligible and power from the 2.3 is more smoother for a 4 cylinder. For a bigger vehicle it would make more sense. The Corsair makes more sense with the 2.0. I do like the styling, hopefully the electronics aren't glitchey as they age. I do like, non the less where Lincoln is headed and is finally not looking like a rebadged Ford vehicle. Lincoln has found it's own image and I love it 🤙🏼❤️

Another good report from Alex. To copy Rivian and have the air vents control on the screen is absurd, but more than anything, dangerous. Similarly, the piano keys CVT box control is too far away from the driver. I drove a Camry Hybrid for 12 years and 102,000 miles. I used the "L' button or as Toyota call it, "B' (for brake) many times when I needed to maintain traction or slow without using the footbrake and it worked well. To have to reach over to the far right button for this is also absurd. I drive a 2018 MKX 3.7 and it really handles and drives well. Ford have been cracking the handling/ride situation well for years, starting in Europe in 1990 with the Mondeo.

Love how the new Nautilus looks outside and powertrain choices are certainly more interesting than what Lexus is offering but the all-screen interior is just a no-go for me. Such an interior design philosophy just isn't luxury to me. Lincoln pretty much nailed the classic luxury vibe with the interiors of the facelifted previous gen Nautilus and current gen Aviator and Navigator and it's quite sad that is already being retired.

I love the look of the Nautilus, not a huge fan of the interior, the interior comes across as screen overload to me but I can see how some people like it. Recently took my mum to test drive a bunch of cars, we looked at the RX500h and 350h, took a look at the Nautilus hybrid, XC60 hybrid, and RDX, first thing both of us noticed was how “gruff” the 2.0T hybrid system felt in the Nautilus compared to the RX500h, my mum specifically said it, it did not sound or feel smooth at all, and I generally agree, the 2.4t in the RX was definitely a smoother experience and even comparing the 350h which also has an E-CVT, they were about the same with the Lexus transition between electric and hybrid mode being smoother, although the Lincoln wa faster compared to the 350h. The RDX was just too small, old and a little cheap feeling compared to the rest. Ultimately we settled on test driving the XC60 and RX500h again. We prefer the infotainment in the RX, but the Volvo definitely felt a little more upscale. It’s unfortunate the 500h only comes in black, red or white on the inside, the 350h luxury we sampled has like a cream with light brown wood interior trim and it looked amazing.

Comparing its Black Label (4 Cyl Hybrid and Made In China) to Lexus GX (V6 Hybrid and Made In Japan) Overtrail+/Luxury+, the GX is only $5k more so the GX's top trim surely feels better value.

Nitpicking it, visually and I believe in it's actual dimension, the steering wheel is oddly shaped. It's not flat nor oval. The curve at the top is not the same as the bottom. Practically, doesn't this flat top make it feel awkward to hold the steering wheel with one hand where you grab it at the top center? Especially when turning it, the trajectory won't be a full circular motion. Please tell me this oddly shaped steering wheel actually works better than the regular one in real life.

The Nautilus is made in China. You keep repeating that the Nautilus has better electronics and better efficiency. So my question is where is the reliability of a car that has no real historical reference, since it started as a Lincoln MKX and later it was renamed into what it is now. The bkck label Nautilus is the most expensive, easily placing right next to the executive trim Lexus RX350. While the Nautilus at that level does have more HP, i just dont see reliability and because the Nautilus does not have sell many units a year. One has to wonder how easy it is to fix, foing to dealership can be expensive. In terms of the quality of plastics, paint, electronics and options in the car, one has to wonder if they will go 10 or more years without problems and if the engine offers ease of access for working when service is needed. While you mention the hatch maximizes space that is a great selling point. To the demise of Lincoln, i dont believe this car would hold long term value as the way all lexus models do. I still see Rx300 on the road and those cars are well over 20 yr old. The amount of electronics this car has only increases malfunctions and electronic gremlins. This is something that i can see will have to be tested long term specially in the cold weather and ling term. By the way not that it matters but i drive a 20- MdX with SH- AWD. Only i had to do is oil changes, brakes, regular maintenance and the 100k tine up with new belts and water pump. While My car 115k miles, interiors materials are holding up well and my mechanic tells me i can go another 100k miles with no issues. I am not sure if I buy a Nautilus, i will have the same luck. Great review.

The thing about Lexus is the consistent reliability the brand offers 5-15 years after the purchase. That reliability is hard to replicate and hard to verify in the short term. It is something the Lexus brand accumulated over the years. Lexus’ handling is actually at the bottom of the luxury pack.

@@WSOJ3 those millions don’t know anything. They’re so convinced Lexus is the best thing to exist when clearly every other brand is objectively better. Besides they don’t know that they can get a top trim Toyota of that Lexus for less cash If those millions possessed any physical sense or real knowledge they’d choose a better brand. Besides if reliability matters so much then why haven’t bmw Audi Jeep Mercedes Porsche Bentley rolls Royce Maserati etc gone out of business yet?
@michaelkovalsky4907
@michaelkovalsky4907 2 ай бұрын
@@naveenthemachine Well, Jeep is cheap to fix. Porsche is actually reliable in an odd twist given that Audis usually aren't. Rolls, Bentley are all about exclusivity. If you can afford a Rolls you genuinely don't care about repair costs. Maserati is a joke and is mostly on life support. Consider Jaguar is practically a dead man walking given reliability has been a concern for them for so long that people automatically ignore them

All of the Stellantis and MB screens look so shitty compared to this implementation. They actually designed it to be useful and put some work into the UX instead of just turning every surface into a screen. Especially the way they try to make the EQS waterfall in the center, it's all so tacky. Lincoln could easily make an actual Rolls-Royce competing giant Continental this time around, Celestiq be damned.
