@@bigeyejim you get 32-34 miles of electric range. The car will exhaust the battery first and will run on gas with a little help from regen breaking. 2017 Pacifica Hybrid owner from Canada here, couple things... The instrument cluster screen is customizable, I have my battery gauge there completing the circle of the gas gauge so that part of the review was incorrect. There are a few options for how that screen can look and the driver can put the information they want pretty much where they want it. Also, for those living in cold climates DO NOT use the remote start button while the van is plugged in in your garage with the door closed.What Alex said is not entirely accurate. Depending on the temperature outside, the gas engine may come on. However, there is indeed a way to do it without having the gas engine kick in but you can't use the remote start button on the key fob. In the Pacifica forums online we call it the "Pittman method" after the guy who discovered this particular trick. If you want to make sure the gas engine absolutely does not kick in while you warm up the vehicle you have to go to the van and physically push the start button twice WITHOUT touching the brake pedal. As long as the van is plugged in it will heat up using power from the mains and will not run the gas engine. Any other way of remote starting risks having the gas motor come on, especially if it's well below freezing outside. My biggest gripe with the van is not being able to force it into EV-only mode. I find where I live the gas engine always comes on in the winter due to the cold (-20 here is very common). I wish there was a way to force it to stay in EV mode because most of the trips I do in the winter are well within the electric range even with the resistance heater going (especially if I preheat using the Pittman method!). It's a minor gripe that speaks more to my desire for it to be a pure EV than anything else. Our only issues have come from the gas engine the van carries around. Fully 2/3 of all our driving to date has been in all-electric mode. Our next van will be all-electric regardless of whether it's a Chrysler or not. As it stands now it looks like it will be a VW since they seem to be the only ones looking to make an electric minivan.

For that last 16 years we’ve driven three generations of Honda Odyssey minivans, with the last one being a 19 Odyssey with almost 80K miles. Well we bought the a loaded Pacifica Hybrid in Jan. $11,500 off sticker and another $8000 with Fed and State rebates! We love it. We went almost 1500 miles in April and only used 12 gallons of gas because we charge through the day on level 2 charger at home and around town. We are amazed at how comfortable and quiet this van is. Right now I’m saving between $80-120 a month on gas after factoring in electric costs, and as gas prices rise this delta will only get bigger. Love this van!

I've had electrical /software problems with my 2019 leased new Pacifica. Not just annoying issues, but actual problems where the car shuts down and wont start in the middle of traffic for no reason. I took it to the dealer and they said it was fixed, but we still have lingering issues where the display just freezes up and the radio wont work plus we had to disable some of the features to avoid constant problems. Love the engine and the ride and the space, but these other issues are BS. Plus the headphones broke 2x due to faulty design. Not good. Maybe they fixed these issues in the 2021 model BUT still disappointing we paid top $ for a faulty vehicle. Also this was not just our vehicle. Chrysler message boards confirmed many others where having the same issue and the service rep at the dealership couldn't hide the fact he was dealing with this software issue consistently.

If your hybrid doesn’t transition well between gas and electric, it can be the idle timing which can be reset. In Ford Fusion it needs to be reset every time the battery is disconnected for service. It will idle and transition rough if not reset, and it will affect fuel economy allot. It’s a very easy process to reset the idle timing.

Thanks for this. We love our 2018 Pacifica Hybrid Limited (our second PHEV after my 2015 Ford C-MAX Energi, with which it shares our Level 2 EVSE). Beyond the efficiency, I particularly appreciate the well-programmed adaptive cruise control in traffic. My only complaint as a driver is that the steering is very light and uncommunicative. I don't understand why IIHS hasn't tested the new Pacifica's headlights and collision avoidance system to see if it would qualify for their Top Safety Pick or Top Safety Pick+ award. It received a "Good" score in all crash tests, and I would hope Chrysler kept the IIHS headlight tests in mind when engineering the new LED headlamps, so it should be able to earn the award. I don't know anything about the process at IIHS, whether they get loaner vehicles from automakers or have to purchase the vehicles they test, but I'd think someone in Chrysler's marketing department would really want to push to get the TSP+ if they can.

Drove one last week, and while it was pretty nice, the dealer didn't charge it (of course) so I only got to evaluate it in hybrid mode. I just wish at ~$50K loaded and with a refresh for 2021, it had a proper lane centering system instead of a "ping pong mode" lane keep. Having the former in my '18 Accord Hybrid (and loving it there), I can't justify upgrading our other family hauler to something without it. The lack of hybrid/EV controls is also a deal breaker for me in a PHEV, as I want that control over how I'm using the drivetrain, particularly on longer trips. Would absolutely pull the trigger on purchasing this if they just had those couple extra things, but I agree with all the other tech/luxury features and the $7500 tax credit, it makes for a great value even when loaded. The dealership was offering me $10K off MSRP and 0% financing (up to 60 months) to take it home too, so they really wanted to move it off the lot.

@@dailyrant4068 the $7500 credit can't be applied during a sale, you receive it when you file your taxes the following year, IF you make enough taxable income to take advantage of the credit. The only way to get it "up front" is leasing with some companies(as the dealer/finance org "owns" the vehicle and pays the taxes), but due diligence should be done to ensure you're actually getting a deal there and the fuzzy math of the dealership isn't scooping most/all of the credit back. Others simply won't apply it at all on a lease, like Honda when I was looking at a Clarity.

Thanks for the Carnival mention. I was just about to ask. ALL vans should be offered wi the Max seating. That’s the whole point of a van. Wake up manufacturers. We bought a new 2018 pacifica hybrid Limited, then traded it in after about 20,000 miles for a new 2020 pacifica hybrid Limited. We actually made money trading it in (thanks to federal tax credit). Incredible dealer and manufacture discounts, we got a new 2020 with "S" package and fully loaded for about $42k out the door BEFORE the federal tax credits. Meaning overall cost was about $36k. It's an incredible final price for $51k MSRP vehicle. However, our 2020 pacifica hybrid died at just over 6,000 miles and spent the last 7 weeks at the dealership, eventually getting a transmission replacement. We have a lemon law lawyer involved for that. However, we are considering going with the option to replace it with the same vehicle (or 2021 if possible). There really is nothing else out there that compares to the pacifica hybrid, not even SUV's can compare to the comfort, storage, features, etc. Plus, driving 2,000 miles or more on a single tank of gas is very nice. The van does grossly underestimate the miles to empty, typically we can do 500 to 550 miles, starting with a full charge and never charging it again, before the van gets low on gas. When doing the math (cost of electricity and gallon of gas) we often find ourselves around the 60 to 70mpg area in combined driving. And really the pacific hybrid is the best looking minivan as well. Our 2020 has the "S" package and it's very slick! Lastly,

Any idea why Chrysler sticks to the Pentastar V6 instead of going to a 2.0T like in the new Jeep Wrangler 4xe? I mean going to a 2.0T will likely improve highway efficiency to match the new hybrid Sienna. I don't know the size of the Pacifica or the weight make it a concern to put in a 2.0T, but both the Wrangler 4xe and the Pacifica Hybrid pretty much the same at just over 5000 lbs. Also wouldn't a 2.0T engine fit in the space occupied by a 3.6L V6 engine? A Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid with a 2.0T and the same battery combination will be a market leader. Superb efficiency combined with lots of space!

Great review Alex! Finally. Someone gives the Pacifica its due. I owned the pre-PHEV version and wished I had waited. I recommended it to my friend coming out of 3 Siennas in a row. I think it’s way better than the Sienna hybrid. PLUS, and this is a big plus, you pretty much pay close to sticker for the Sienna. You can get lots of $$$ on the hood for the Pacifica. Add that to the tax incentive, and my buddy could have almost purchased two Pacificas for what they wanted for the Sienna! His wife absolutely loves it hauling around their 3 kids. Adds well to his Tesla Model 3.

This could be the best in the market for now. But after owning it for more than 5 years, I bet this is the opposite of being the best as I don't trust any Dodge, Chrysler or Jeep reliability in the long run. Definitely a lease and not a good buy.😎

So (I’m not very “car smart”), are we saying here that the plug in hybrid doesn’t work like a normal hybrid? Is there a normal hybrid option? I’d prefer to reap the benefits of a hybrid without having to plug and charge, or sacrifice the 2nd row stow and go.

Unfortunate your review does not speak to the numerous fire issues. Chrysler solution, do not plug in the charger and park it away from your home. No solution yet. Also you skip the dangerous issue of the car randomly stopping while driving. Again no solution from Chrysler. Several customers demanded buy back, but with a loss. I have an order for the 2022 Pinnacle based on videos such as yours. Thinking I made a big mistake. Disappointed in your review. Check out the videos on both of these serious issues.

Great review. I had the Pacifica right before the PHEV came out. Wish I waited. I loved everything about that car except the transmission. It was terrible! Otherwise, our favorite minivan after owning 3 Odysseys. Glad to see the PHEV doesn’t use the same tranny. Wish you could control the EV/hybrid mode better like I can on my RAV4 Prime. On long trips it’s nice to turn on EV only for local roads, then put it in gas mode/hybrid mode for the highway, and preserve EV mode for local roads again…On our vehicle that had the heated steering wheel, the metal strip didn’t heat up, so it gave an odd feeling of the cold strip on your hands while the rest of the wheel was hot! Is that changed now?

So, the plug-in means the drive battery is only charged by an AC outlet, and not at all by driving with the internal cumbustion engine running? I read that after you exauhst the 32 miles of AC juice, it acts as a normal hybrid and gets around 29mpg on gasoline only, 7mpg better than the gas only Pacifica. For $29,000 after $7500 federal tax credit, not bad and $1500 cheaper than the normal Pacifica.

When the battery is at 0% and ICE is running it is also charging the EV battery. The pacifica hybrid will then try to use the EV charge (as long as it has some) by itself and turn off the ICE as much as possible.

Hi, I love this vehicle unfortunately through the Chrysler company short-sightedness we in the Uk don't get this vehicle even though considering there are No corresponding hybrid as phenomenal as this Pacifica pinnacle hybrid which would really sell over here!! if we had to have one we would have to import and find somewhere to do a right hand conversion.. I own a mk3 grand voyager 3.3, and it has been a faithful companion outlasting 4 cars 2 that had literally died one which managed to destroy its engine.. every year she keeps me on the road and safe, however I would love to be able to afford the new Pacifica pinnacle hybrid especially seeing and reading peoples mpg its amazing WE OVER HERE SHOULD HAVE IT..WAKE UP CHRYSLER!!..would love to have it in my voyagers colour which is listed as mauve, looks grey from a distance with grey leather seats which if they could on pinnacle a corresponding lilac on seats in place of the nappa brown.. but it will never happen for us which will be a great shame only way will get one myself is if win the lottery. lol.

The Chrysler minivans will not be the sales leader in 2021 by virtue of the semiconductor shortage. The Windsor, Ontario plant where the Chrysler vans are assembled have been down for many, many weeks so far this year with no end in sight. So if you can't make em', you can't sell em'. Stellantis has been focusing their available chip supplies to the RAM lineup and other high margin vehicles. Honda and Toyota seem to be able to procure more chips so they are more able to keep their respective minivan production lines running. For that reason, they will easily be able to outsell the Chrysler van lineup simply by having available vehicles on dealer lots to actually sell.

We test drove a 2021 Pacifica Hybrid last week and have mixed feelings about it. It drove very nicely and the seats were very comfortable, but it made this low pitched whirring sound that was very distracting and unpleasant to me when at lower speeds. Talking with the sales guy, he stated that was occurring due to the battery being dead and that it wouldn't occur if it was charged. That still has me concerned though for longer road trips and things, since it would obviously deplete the battery at some point. Has anyone heard this with their Pacifica Hybrids?
@slandshark
@slandshark 3 жыл бұрын
Sales guy was an idiot. The whirring sound at low speed is coming from an external speaker. It's required by law to have the noise for pedestrians to hear the van coming when it's running on EV mode only (any vehicle that can drive on pure EV has a similar external speaker noise at low speeds). The noise will automatically shut off at about 15 to 20mph. I had a 2018 pacfiica hybrid we drove for 20,000 miles and now a 2020 pacifica hybrid. The noise is slightly louder in the 2020, but functions the same.

Slandshark is exactly right! This is a safety feature that cannot/shouldn't be disabled.....I own a 2021 Pac Hybrid and it took me a while to figure this out. Mine will turn off at exactly 22mph and the external speaker will change depending on if you are in drive or reverse

what does the "L" do? or when is recommended to use it?
@slandshark
@slandshark 2 жыл бұрын
Hello, I've driven a 2018 version for 20k miles and now a 2020 version for 12k miles and I always drive in "L" mode. The manual states its perfectly fine to run all the time in "L" mode as well. L mode is basically increasing regen/braking at all times. It'll take a bit more pushing on the accelerator pedal to get going compared to "D", but when you let off the gas pedal it'll feel like you are 'engine braking' like a manual transmission. It provides nearly a one-pedal driving experience (i.e. you don't have to use the brake pedal nearly as much). Note that although driving in "L" means you'll have more 'regen braking' feel when letting off the gas, it's equivalent of simply putting your foot on the brake immediately after taking it off the gas pedal. So you aren't increasing actual regen, you are just asking the vehicle to start regen immediately after taking the foot off the gas pedal. It takes a little getting use to, especially when you find yourself using the gas pedal to not only control your acceleration, but also to control your braking power (or rather decrease your regen braking power).
