I actually like the way an Acadia Denali drives. It’s floaty very much like a 70’s Cadillac which has some nice old school GM traits, and has excellent noise cancellation. All it needs is a diesel option to tow more.

Rented one of these, an SLT. Quite impressed with the V6 (it down cycles to V4) and the start / stop is pretty quiet in operation. The packaging is great, with 4 people riding in luxury chairs plus 2 more seats in the Back for kids. It also has rear AC with automatic climate control. Very nice machine for what it is.

The Australian spec Holden Acadia has had the 3.6l V6 with 9 speed auto for over 12 months. No problems reported with that drivetrain.

Paddle shifters on a GMC Acadia would be used just as frequently as paddle shifters on a Chevrolet Equinox: NEVER. This refreshed GMC design is absolutely gorgeous. Finally a full LED headlight and it looks very upscale. This design in the Denali trim is gonna be very sexy! 🔥

I have the 2019 Acadia Denali, I love it! Fun trick sit in the third row and put the second row down and you got a nice foot and leg rest! My son did this on a road trip! So I do like how you can configure the back seats ! I also love the infotainment system. You can use the you’ve activation to find gas stations, and stuff while you drive! When my gas gets low it lets me know the closet gas station! The thing to do is read the car manual to get the best performance out of this car!

I have now as a loner from the GMC dealer while my 2015 equinox is down is a 2020 Acadia. I love it, the gear shift is unusual but you get use to it, I love the 8 speaker BOSE Stereo system 🥰. OMG nothing beats BOSE, it’s the top of the line audio system out there, never herd my music so crisp and loud until I got in this. Unfortunately, I’ve had GM vehicles since 1990 and had very little problems but my equinox has been nothing but a POS, always in for major repairs so it breaks my heart that I will not buy no more GM vehicles 😢. Plus with all this fancy electronic stuff (electronic shifter, Electronic parking brake, Touch screen, power lift gate and more, I see major headaches and lots of money when these fail, so that’s another reason why I have to back away from this vehicle but the ride is soooooo nice 🥰.

I also love most every thing about the Acadia including the great looks, but I decided to ge the Subaru Ascent for 2 reasons. 1. Paddle shifters 2. Standard eyesight safety sensors (which include adaptive cruise control) including on the very base model.

Happy to see Alex adopt the "Tweener" designation for crossovers in this category. Most of the competition fall is 188"-192" in length, about an inch than the Acadia (193.4") while the larger midsize three row SUV's range from 195" to 203". Technically, then, the Acadia might be considered a "tweener tweener." :) The differences may seem small but I've found that when fitting a hitch mounted bike rack that adds a foot and a half or more to the overall length and successfully closing a garage door every inch of length is important. And when parking on the street, in a public lot, or negotiating urban/suburban traffic, the difference between one of the shorter vehicles in the category (e.g. Hyundai Santa Fe, Kia Sorento, Ford Edge) and the larger midsize crossovers (e.g. CX-9, Durango, Traverse) where the difference in overall length is nearly a foot or more is important. If the Acadia is considered a "tweener," it's worth noting it joins the KIA Sorento as the only vehicle in the category that offers third row seating. Alex calls that an "emergency" third row (replacing his earlier designation as a "mother-in-law" seating.) I wouldn't go that far. We have a Sorento with virtually identical headroom/legroom stats for the third row and we find it's very convenient when we're chauffeuring a gaggle of teenage girls or situations when we transport six or seven passengers on a local trip and the alternative is using two vehicles. We keep the third row stowed about 90% of the time but when we need it, it's great to have. Where it comes up short in both the Sorento and the Acadia is cargo room behind the third row for gear/luggage along with six or more passengers. If that's a priority the Chevy Traverse, KIA Telluride, or VW Atlas is a better choice. Of course, a minivan trumps any crossover on that score.

I test drove this vehicle and it is so underrated. I like the Palisade, Telluride, Highlander, and some of the other midsize suvs, but none of these vehicles drive as well as the 2020 acadia.

@zhiyako4032 If you are still interested in 2024, the Acadia (2020-2023) is one of the smoothest and best driving SUVs I have owned or driven. Mine is used with 27k on the 2.0L Turbo. It feels much smaller to drive than it looks. It's a great car for a family of 4 with a dog, but I will say the cargo space with the 3rd row up is tiny so I would not recommend it if you plan on using the 3rd row full time.

Took my van on a 1800 mile road trip through some mountain passes having a proper ergonomic manual function on the shifter to make maximum use of the engine brake when descending long steep inclines, very windy roads or even climbing lengthy grades makes so much sense with a vehicle loaded with one's precious cargo.. it's like a safety issue for me taking my eyes off the road to find those tiny buttons in the Acadia which they took the shifter out in the first place to free up space.. what space?!! for what?!! 😳

Dont mind the push pull button gear selector at all, but not having shift paddles when there are + and - speed selections is gross negligence. That aside the new Acadia refresh design is top notch, it now looks brawnier and truck like. I wonder if GMC will come with a more off road capable Acadia with a better approach angle at the front.

That isn't for manual shifting. It's for driving in L and preventing upshifting. So many reviewers don't get that. It's for driving in slippery conditions or uphill

Have to agree. I'm no fan of push button gear selectors but GM appears to have made a bad idea even worse. The new Hyundai Palisade adopts the push button trend as well but at least it provides paddle shifters to make changing gears manually somewhat less of a pain. In any event I don't like any of the designs; they all remind me of 1957 DeSoto's.

I'm a fan of 4 cylinder turbo engines. I've been driving such vehicles since the early 1990's (Saabs). I was impressed by the 2.3L Ecoboost engine in a Mustang I drove last year. Likewise with the 2.5L turbo 4 in the Mazda6 and even more by the 2.0L turbo in the Accord. And I currently have my second GTI with a 2.0L turbo engine that I love. But each of those vehicles has a curb weight of 3500 lbs or less. (My GTI's is around 3100 lbs.) I'm skeptical about the durability of such engines and drive trains in crossovers that loaded with fuel, passengers, and gear can approach or exceed two and a half tons! I haven't noticed that the laws of physics have been repealed and propelling such large, heavy vehicles with small displacement engines with turbos spinning at thousands of RPM's and forced induction simply has to place more stress on an engine than a larger naturally aspirated six cylinder configuration. I understand manufacturers' incentive to meet CAFE standards with smaller engines and turbocharging is undeniably tempting to provide equivalent performance to larger displacement engines, especially when combined with eight, nine, or ten speed transmissions. And I also understand that manufacturers may see little reason to worry about durability in vehicles that new car buyers are likely to replace within six or seven years at most or lease for three years, especially when a new car warranty is not transferable to a used car buyer. Nevertheless, I think there's a reason that almost all brands of midsize SUV's offer standard or optional V6 engines (most naturally aspirated) for customers like myself who are skeptical that laws of physics can be ignored with impunity...

We towed a 1,500 lbs jetski and trailer behind our 4,000 Buick Envision 2.0T with torque vectoring AWD without problems. Aside from extra brake pedal pressure from the extra weight the torque was plenty from the turbo-4.

@@normt5463 A 1500 lb jetski isn't the issue. I could tow a 1500 lb jetski with my VW GTI. I could probably do it with my 1100cc motorcyle. Serious towing begins at 3000 lbs and up. A Dodge Durango, for example is rated at 8700 lbs. My KIA Sorento AWD is rated at 5000 lbs.

Jose Hernandez the terrain is too small for some people and the Traverse is a lot larger than them both which is what a lot of people prefer with larger families who still need cargo space. This Acadia is in between the two and the perfect proportions for many. I agree with what you said about the shifter, it’s pretty smart and the design makes sense. People just want something to complain & hate about it because it’s a GM product.

Picking up a 2020 Acadia AT4 on Friday. The redesigned front end is beautiful; I'm getting it in Summit White with the glossy black 17" rims and all terrain tires, very sharp looking. A lot of people dismiss the gear selector right away. Is it different and probably unnecessary? Yes, but it's likely where a lot of car manufacturers will eventually head to. Look at how much room it opens up in the centre console for storage. I test drove my AT4 for about 30mins and was more than adjusted after that short period of time.

I'm not sure why you keep mentioning the Pilot when the 16-20 ones are way bigger then this car. The 3rd row is actually usable compared to the highlander which is for kids. Adults can actually fit just fine back there.

The drive shift selector buttons could be in better place. Perhaps right of start button or nearby. Not a deal breaker. A think a good idea because it frees up space, some people are going to complain about losing old shift selector knob. GMC needs to update dash area but I don’t like the fact that most new vehicles are sticking the infotainment screens sticking out on dash. I prefer them builtin. However, I like the smaller Acadia. I think they will continue to sell many of this model. I prefer boxy look too. What is MPG for turbo 4 cylinders that’s coming out for this model?

Hi Alex, I’m downsizing from an ‘05 Yukon but still need to tow My 17 ft travel trailer at around 3400lbs and i dont think this will do. Have been looking at grand cherokee and durango V6’s. They seem to still tow decent numbers and still get respectable mpg. What years are most reliable in those makes? Any other ideas on vehicles that would fit the bill id listen. I looked at Canyon but i im worried my two boys (14,11) may not fit very comfortably in the crew cab canyon. Thanks, and love your channel.

The CX-9 has a poor AWD syatem and is slower than the V6's in the 3-row segment. "...the CX-9 AWD system doesn't send power to the rear wheels quickly enough, which can result in torque steer if you need to accelerate away from a stop quickly." " In dry conditions, the system is designed to minimize the amount of torque it sends to the rear wheels, which means during full-throttle acceleration, the CX-9 and its 310 lb-ft of torque will chirp the front tires and then proceed to torque-steer, leaving the driver to wrestle with the steering wheel. Considering the AWD control module is monitoring both the accelerator position and steering angle, I feel like the moment the accelerator pedal is depressed fully, power should be moved to the rear to mitigate the effects of all of that torque on the front wheels."

@@efavuzza73 does it rain in Florida? Then you can use AWD? This was Motor Trend longterm update on their CX-9 and they didnt like the AWD version as the front tires would spin too much. The quality of the interior with noticeable wear on the leather seats and center console scrscratched at 29,000 miles. It is not very durable and the AC is lacking in the rear seats on hot days.

2020 GM product still using 2014 Buttons on the dash. I have the same buttons on my 2017 Impala for HVAC Unit that was designed for model year 2014. The Push Me Pull Me Trans Buttons would be so much nicer to use if it was in Piano form. I get why they did this for anyone or animal in the front passenger seat.

The GM Ecotec 2.0T has hauled around my 2016 Envusion with 4,000 lbs in tow. No problems and +30 mpg can be had at highway cruise.

@@mfmf100 these turbo-4's have hauled around 3,900 Saab and Volvo wagons to 300,000 before needing a $50.00 turbo rebuild. That was on 1990''s-2000 s era synthetic. The trans for our 2004 Saab 9-5 SportCombi is a Aisin and has over 200,000 miles a d.works perfectly. Today's turbo-4's inject fuel directly into the combustion chamber and can run on 87 octane .

James Chung: There are 2 versions of the 3.6, the LFX and LGX. The LFX had issues, and has now been replaced by the LGX V6, and so far I have heard the new engine is much better. Parts are also cheap for the 3.6, so even if you do have repairs, it won’t cost too much money.

The LFX was using semi-synthetic oil when it should have used full synthetic. We have motor in the old style Acadia and run Dexos 1 Gen 2 for DI engines.

The Acadia sits between the Blazer and Traverse in length, they are all about the same width, but the Blazer is lower in height.

@@644t9 I can believe if a Hyundai cost more to maintain than a Toyota (pretty much guaranteed to go 300k miles if you just changed the motor oil), but not sure about Fords. I think the quality of Ford products vary greatly. Same can be said of GM, also I have heard GM cars are difficult to work on.

We have an Acadia 2018 SLE AWD. I like the idea GMC decided to put parking sensors on the front. I had the dealer install them for me when I purchased the car. I am not sure I would like the idea of a push-button shifter. A couple of things Alex. 1. You mentioned the dimensions is different than the last generation? could you clarify? is it shorter than 2018/2019 which is already shorter than the 2017 model? 2. The gearbox. I hear the 9 speed is causing lots of issues in the pickup line. Is that the same one installed in the Sierra?

To answer your first question, it would be the same as 2018/2019. He is referring to the last gen one which would have been 2017 and earlier

@@shethjones4494 I think this was done in 2019. In 2018, the only available option to have any kind of sensors at the front was to go Denali which got the 360 camera but no front sensors and only rear sensors..

I have to laugh because the auto industry is moving toward these push button controlled transmissions but they've been the in commercial vehicles for some time now. Many municipal bus companies have vehicles that use buttons to control transmissions.

Hi Nice Video. First I would never get the 4 Cyl. I have the V6 Great Motor. And GM is way behind on Standard Safty Features other Car Manufactures Give in their Standard SUV. GM has to raise the front ground clearance. Like the Jeep Grand Cheeroke.

Finally he put a video less than 20 minutes in length and makes it semi watchable. That transmission button selection thing in these vehicles is stupid. Stay away from these GM front wheel drive vehicles, go for Highlander and Pilot.

@@shethjones4494 I realize that. It's trendy but I fail to see a significant advantage of either a dial or push buttons over a traditional lever. Typically, the rationale is "saving space" in the center console but that's more apparent than real since the space "saved" is usually not on the console but six inches above it and requires reaching down to a space shared with other controls. The Acadia "solves" the problem by locating the buttons in a totally unfamiliar location that makes no sense, whatsoever. I wouldn't be surprised to see some manufacturer adopt the placement of the buttons in the middle of the steering wheel so those familiar with driving a '57 Plymouth can feel at home. I suppose I should add the obligatory "Get Off My Lawn" to this comment. :)

They need to make this a RWD based platform so they can give this the 5.3 V8. WTF is GM doing with v6 flagships in 3 row vehicles. Hell even cadillac is bound by the platform they are forced to use. Lincoln demanded a better platform for the aviator, which made the explorer an overall better vehicle with good powertrains. I wish for at least the C1XX based vehicles, they would get RWD and real engines. The silverado proved just how fuel efficient the 5.3 can be with the new cylinder deactivation for 2019

Jeff Wolf i have one from Thrifty (brand new truck). The ride is quiet but firm. You can hustle this vehicle almost like a BMW... it is nothing like an SUV from 10-20 years ago. It’s a modern sedan with a tall body on basically.

Great review sir as always. Is a Lincoln MKZ 3.0TT in the future please? Now to this vehicle...not a bad exterior design. I see Durango meets Canyon in the front. Back is decent. Whoever signs off on these GM interior needs to be fired. Minus the Regal GS but they have no uniformity no direction. Sad... hopefully they figure it out soon, for the taxpayers' sake.

Wow. It's like GM isn't even trying anymore. No cooled seats or heated steering wheel in their premium vehicle? Still no adaptive cruise? And that shift setup! Looks like it was thrown in at the last second. GM has to be running out of folks that will blindly buy their products. My 2016 Canyon was such a disaster. Waiting to see if they can pull it back together somehow.

slt had vented seats as option. Standard on Denali. Just this model was lacking that feature. Adaptive cruise is limited to Denali though

Looked at one. The third row was basically unusable especially with car seat in second row. Not even sure could fit a large cooler behind the third row 🤷🏼♂️

Bastard Actually, third row legroom (31.1") is slightly less than a KIA Sorento (31.7") and the KIA is 4.4" less in overall length with more than nine cubic ft more overall passenger space (153 vs 144). As far as cargo space behind the third row is concerned, the KIA has 11 cubic ft vs 12 for the Acadia. I have no problem fitting five grocery bags in the rear cargo space of the KIA. Of course, YMMV if you shop at Costco for groceries or have to feed six or seven family members and want to take everyone to the store. Where both the Sorento and the Acadia come up short is hauling six or seven passengers with luggage/gear on a trip. For that a Chevy Traverse, KIA Telluride, or a VW Atlas are the best choices among midsize crossovers. Even better, of course, is a minivan.

In Motor Trend testing the MDX Hybrid only got 2 mpg more highway.rhen the Acadia 3.6l with 6-speed transmission. The acceleration and handling on the regular MDX is similar with Acadia. The Acadia has a better figure-8 handling time and is only 1.5 mph behind in the quarter mile trap speed.
