I have a 17 Impala now with 64K on it. Never a problem. I didn't know about the headrest adjustment until I saw this. Always learning new things about it even today.
@dck51051010 жыл бұрын
I'm 6'5" and test drove this car today. The front seat fits like a glove. I adjusted it as if I were driving. Then I sat behind the driver seat and my knees were touching and there was no head room. Not that I would be sitting in the back of my own car but just saying to give people an idea. Oh and the trunk is humongous. You could fit like 2 more people in there. The 4 cylinder really surprised me. I thought it was going to be like a honda civic power but no way. I don't see why anyone would get the 6 cylinder. Unless maybe you need the power but the 4 has plenty power to pull this sedan. I want one.
@flash0122349 жыл бұрын
I'm 6'2 and I thought that the back had headroom, there also was a lot of leg room in the back, so I dunno what you're talking about.
@dck5105109 жыл бұрын
flash012234 You would know what I'm talking about if you were 3 inches taller. By no means is the car small I'm just sharing my input for people that are my height because at 6'5" there really isn't many options for comfort. However for anyone who is 6'5" the impala is a great sedan if you are going american. I also fit well in the Kia Optima.
@flash0122349 жыл бұрын
Peace Not really, because my brother is around 6'6( so he is even taller), and he also fit fine with extra headroom... Is it that you are a little on the heavy side? Because none of my family has any problems sitting in the back of my dad's Impala...
@dck5105109 жыл бұрын
flash012234 I'm 195 lbs. I wouldn't consider that heavy for my height but I also wouldn't think weight would effect headroom or knee room. Maybe my torso is longer than his, I don't know. All I can say is its still a great choice for a full size sedan for people our height. The other american sedans like the dodge charger and ford fusion had even less room in the back so those were definitely out.
@flash0122349 жыл бұрын
Peace Hmm... Well, I dunno... Because 195 is smack dab in the middle for a guy that is around 6'3 - 6'6, and thus that is average for our height... It may have just been coincidence with my brother... I'm just asking... Do you drive an Impala?

Thorough review as always. I really appreciate showing the seat and trunk space, and the time you spend with the MyLink system. Showing the ride on that mountain road was great, too, it really gave a sense of the quietness and responsiveness.

The impala is very impressive, what I like the most about it is the roominess, quiet ride and low price. You did an excellent job again explaining this car from head to toe and front to back. Keep up the good work and see you next time.

I loved it! It was a comprehensive review, and I got a great sense on the Impala (looks like a winner for GM). And, most importantly, you didn't say "of course" even once! Much appreciated! Keep up the great work Alex :) BTW: Were those roads in the Santa Cruz mountains. It was really a beautiful drive!

The 2014 impala could be the best looking modern car GM has ever made, great interior, great specs, and above all,great value for money!
@AAutoBuyersGuide11 жыл бұрын
It's also important to not compare 0-60 times from one publication to another because we're not testing on the same road surface, with the same equipment, etc. So it's difficult to say "the Impala is faster than X because Alex got 5.5 in the Impala and someone got 5.4 in car X." It is best to compare cars within the publication because we use the same procedure every time, so compare MotorTrend's numbers to their own numbers, our numbers to our own numbers. (Hopefully that made sense)
@roxburyranger11 жыл бұрын
LOL! I hope you understand it was meant only as constructive criticism. I love the level of non-judgmental detail you give to each of your reviews, aka, I get really tired of brand stereotypes regurgitated by less thoughtful reviewers.
@Rtvoll11 жыл бұрын
0-60 in 5.5 seconds?! Wow thats really damn fast for a big heavy FWD sedan especially since the official estimate is 6.8. Overall it's a very nice sedan. Probably the best sedan GMs had in a while. Great value for the money.

Great review - as always. I really like how you put seat space and trunk space into perspective. Could you please comment about headlights and how well/poor they illuminate roads at night. It seems no one talks about headlights in their reviews - aside from what they are (HID, LED, Halogen etc). Thanks...keep up the great job.

LTZ trim with 'visible' exhausts and 20-inchers looks even better, to me the best looking FWD sedan in the market along with the Mazda 6. Nice professional review, perhaps exhaust sound under acceleration would make it a bit more soulful.
@AAutoBuyersGuide11 жыл бұрын
We use a 10Hz GPS based tester, the same as everyone else. Most publications that I have seen so far have used GM's estimated numbers which are much higher. Our 0-60 time in the Impala makes sense when you compare it to the similarly heavy and powerful Acura RLX (about the same time) and when you look at the Cadillac XTS's times and factor in the weight reduction for the Impala. (The XTS is about 6 seconds to 60 with the base V6.)
@AAutoBuyersGuide11 жыл бұрын
You are correct, Chevrolet included the wrong window sticker with the car they lent us which explains a few things.

Great review, always enjoyed your work on TTAC. The car you had looks like a 2LT with all the options ticked. That shouldn't be 42k - that's in the domain of the 2LTZ trim.

Hi Alex, Always enjoy your extremely thorough reviews. I'm in the market for a large sedan and was curious as to your thoughts of getting a used Cadillac XTS (2014 Premium with about 13k miles) vs a new Impala 2LTZ? Both cars are almost identically equipped (with a few of the Cadillac extras totally unavailable on the Chevy, e.g. the HUD, uber-premium sound system, etc). If they can be had within a few thousand dollars of one another, is it worth to spring for the used XTS? Compared to one another, how is the drive & ride?
@AAutoBuyersGuide9 жыл бұрын
ChuckMcMuck I found the XTS a little disappointing for the price and I found the interior of the Impala a step behind the competition. I think tat the sweet spot is actually the Buick LaCrosse which has a much nicer interior than the Impala without being that much more expensive. The LaCrosse doesn't get all the features available on the Cadillac but will likely be a bit more reliable in the long run as a result.
@ChuckMcMuck9 жыл бұрын
Alex on Autos I actually test drove both the LaCrosse & Impala and while the Impala had more hard plastics, plastiwood, & a downmarket interior overall, I much preferred the Impala. I found the LaCrosse's cabin to be on the cramped side (and I'm only 5'6") and significantly lacking on interior storage compared to the Chevrolet. I think my concern between the Impala and XTS is I've read the XTS is a bit more sluggish and, counterintuitively, has a harsher ride.
@AAutoBuyersGuide9 жыл бұрын
ChuckMcMuck The ride *can* be harsher, depending on the model and the tire / wheel choice. The magnaride suspension equipped model will be smoother but the top end models with the low profile tires that don't have the dynamic suspension would be worse. Some other solid contenders to cross-shop would be the refreshed Chrysler 300 and the Kia Cadenza.
@ChuckMcMuck9 жыл бұрын
Alex on Autos Thanks Alex, I appreciate your opinions. My first choice would be the new Genesis, but they're almost impossible to find comparably equipped around the $35k mark, new or used.
@rudfil9 жыл бұрын
I think the 0-60 time of 5.52 is a little optimistic. Other road tests on this new Impala with the V6 was a time of 7.1 sec.

What is it with GM's infatuation with old fashioned door locks that are visible from outside?
@mybro7274 жыл бұрын
Scott Lmdao. Are you sure that’s _just_ GM’s infatuation? It’s practical. If the battery dies you can manually unlock the door. GM is all about practicality and intuitiveness.

the one i drove was disturbingly loose in terms of rattly/squeaky interior pieces shaking all over the place over rough bumpy roads. the standard 18" wheels with 50 series rubber are too big for the suspension to cope with, needs thicker rubber to take the edge off of those sharp bumps.
@BruceTheSillyGoose4 жыл бұрын
the one i test-drove rode harshly and noisily over the typical small town bumps in our local roads. the interior had a welter of squeaks and rattles even over smooth-appearing roads. a pity as it otherwise was library-quiet inside.

Headlight intensity can be measured by using a light measuring device at a normal headlight distance and testing the intensity of the light at that measured distance. Perhaps 100 yards and placing a light meter at that distance? Then you can compare cars at that class listing the residual light intensity at that distance. The higher the score, the better the headlight.

@mybro7274 жыл бұрын
eyeswideopen23 Valid question. I rode in an Impala that was rented and this was the driver’s concern too that the high beams weren’t very different from the low beams and lighting on the road from the halogens that come standard could be much better. I think you should opt for the optional HIDs for better visibility at night in the Chevrolet Impala.

I'm so tired of this guy referring everything to the Cadillac Cue. The impala and Cue are attracting two whole different cars. The impala isn't even there to replace the Cue. Sure the touch screen may be lagging, sure the plastic may feel cheap, and maybe the GPS or head space isn't as great as the Cue. But there's a saying called "You get what you pay for". As used cars go the 2014 impala goes for 24-28k depending on the features, then the Cue goes for about 30k-45k depending on the features. Most people who have the money will go for the Cadillac, it's just a better luxury brand name. Chevy is building cars for a more affordable price that look nice. You are comparing a luxury car to a new type of family sedan which is not fair in comparison, any person with half a brain would know there's going to be some flaws with the cheaper model. I personally got to drive the impala and loved it. Although I settled for the 2014 Malibu LTZ, just cause it's cheaper, a little smaller, gets better mileage, but still has the nice leather and features of the impala.
@nicoledavis80325 жыл бұрын

@Bartonovich523 жыл бұрын
Not really. The Charger has a V8... and only 10% of sales have the V8 option. Of those V8s... most of them aren’t daily driven so you need a daily driver in addition to it. The other 90% are V6s which are heavier, less roomy, and slower than the Impala-which itself is faster than all but the handful of fastest V8 cars of the 20th century. With over 300 HP.. tire traction is your main limiting factor for launch and by the time it isn’t you are up to insanely fast speeds.
