Something I learned in my 2024 Forester Wilderness is, if I have both the lane assist on and the cruise control on and I pass a vehicle, when you tap the turn signal stock/lever they will disengage. I pass that vehicle(s) then tap the turn signal stock again and go back into the right hand lane, both the lane assist and cruise control automatically re-engauge. .

Alex, your videos are great and I’ve learned so much from them! But I have to say that I think the one touch lane changer is dangerous. I’ve seen people turn their blinker light on just as they were moving over and it gives no one that’s behind or beside them time to react. Just when you’re moving over is not the time to turn on your blinker light. Your blinker light should be on well before you start changing lanes.

While this is true you also shouldn’t be beginning a lane change in a scenario where that actually factors in. If the guy behind you is flying up, wait to change lanes

bought a 2016 outback new... the roof rack system was a major consideration. The decision to get rid of the tie down points and go with the "open" slopes of the rails on later models was a huge step backwards for those of us who actually USE the rack system! Constantly rooftopping large SOT fishing kayaks, the rack system on my Outback is close to perfect.
@ryanjeffreypetersen4 ай бұрын
The newer ones on the Outback Wilderness are that way because the roof is further reinforced for the additional weight of rooftop tents. Normal Outbacks (2020+) have a max dynamic (in motion) weight capacity of 150 lbs and does not list a static limit (like if you're in a tent and parked) but does mention NOT to mount a tent. But the Wilderness ones (with the correct aftermarket heavy duty crossbars) can take 220 lbs dynamic and 700 lbs static for a tent.
@JoelSzymczyk4 ай бұрын
@@ryanjeffreypetersen good points but not exactly on target. The tie down points are not there on all models, not just the Wilderness trim. And the addition of the added pillars make sense of course, but are not the whole story. Lawyers demand any rack system be completely under-rated because consumer stupidity can never be overestimated..... for 8 straight years I've been roof-racking two full sized fishing SOT kayaks on my outback, combined weight well over 150, but I know how to use tie-downs , and don't automatically assume if there is some problem that it is the manufacturer's fault.

When you mentioned directionals, it reminded me of an annoying thing on the Outback, compared to every other vehicle I've owned. With the Outback, when the directional is on, you need to turn your wheel further than any other car I've driven before. It will automatically click and pop off. So a lot of the turns I take are bare right. This means that I'm usually manually turning those off and sometimes forget to turn them off and it's an annoyance. It's something I got to get used to I suppose.

Alex, is there a way to raise or lower the temperature setting without actually turning on the fan system. Sometimes the air that just naturally blows through the vents will be hotter or colder than I'd like and I just want to warm it up or cool it down and turning on the fan first means I have to blast myself with a BIG hit of the air that I already find uncomfortable, and it takes two steps and more distraction while I'm trying to drive. I use adaptive cruise all the time and had no idea I could switch to normal cruise without going into the settings panel. I've had tha adptive cruise shut down a few times in heavy rain at night because the cameras couldn't see well enough. It would be nice to be able to shift to normal cruise until the rain lets up, so now I can. Thanks for this video!

I appreciated the tip about unlocking all doors when unlocking the driver door. I have a 2019 Forester and I have it for 5 years now and never knew this feature of unlocking all 4 doors at the same time. I don't know what the felt material does between the driver (or passenger) seats and the center console. My seats never move once set so that may not be the reason for the felt material. I like the one touch lane charger feature when the signals stays on 3 times. I wish the vehicle had a rain sensing feature when the wipers come on automatically when it starts to rain and increasing its speed accordingly when the rain starts to fall heavily. My 2003 Mazda 3 has this feature so it shouldn't be difficult for Subaru to have it on their cars.

The radio will stay on for a few minutes after the car is shut off unless you open the driver door. In which case, it immediately shuts off. Those crossbars are one of the cool engineering features I love about my Outback. I could see a group of engineers having a discussion about how they could mount a roof bar accessory, and one of them just says, "Why don't we just build them in and make them swivel? Wouldn't that be cool?" Less cool - the inability to disable the key fob control of the power lift gate. I had my dealership do this for me, and even though it likely took five minutes with the code scanner, I got charged a couple hundred dollars. It was worth it to not have my power tailgate open because I was in the house and changed position on the sofa (true story), but why couldn't this be a function in the Settings menu?

A friend has an Outback and is also a kayaker. She is unimpressed with the built-in roof bars when carrying her kayak because they flex a lot. When she puts the kayak on, they flex downward because of the weight of the kayak. It also means that when driving, the kayak bounces up and down whenever she goes over a bump in the road. They are a good idea, but just a bit flimsy for anything with any weight.

I been waiting for you to address accessory mode. I had my 30 day check in with Subaru last week and this was one of my questions; "why can' I roll down my windows in accessory mode? answer: you can't , it's a Subaru "safety" feature. Not a deal breaker but a bummer.

Hi Alex, I stumbled across your channel while searching for information on a specific issue I'm having. I loved all the tips you shared about hidden features. I learned a lot of useful things. I am that person that reads manuals but this car has so many features (2018 Outback) that I just can't read and learn about every little detail. Anyways, I'm rambling. The issue I would like to know if you have knowledge about is the cruise control step function. The manual says that when the cruise is activated each press of the accelerate or decelerate button the speed should only adjust 1 MPH. And there is no instruction to change that. Well when my cruise is activated and I use the change speed buttons it adjusts 5 MPH. I called one Subaru dealer and talked to a service manager about it and I don't think he had a clue about it. He said "you need to bring it in". Do you have any information about this? Oh BTW I just got the car A couple of months ago from my 88 year old mother. She is no help.

@@kelvinmalko4636 with the same switch that you’re using to adjust the cruise control speed, click and hold it up or down. That should increase or decrease the speed by 1mph. Subaru changed this starting in 2023 because of the confusion. Hope this helps!

My '22 Foster will turn on the headlights if the Eye Sight sees them go by frequently. Not sure if there's a setting to disable it, but I like it. I wish the quick blinker would flash 5 times instead of 3

Besides features, would you mind making more content about the Subaru market, pricing, models, availability, affordability. The car market is hectic right now. There are more channels talking about that. But we need a trustworthy Subaru channel like yours telling us more about Subaru car market.
@alexpmo7 ай бұрын
Yes, I’ll work on some more content related to that. Thanks for the suggestion!

Hey, have a few more questions to you. Can we disable keyless function easily ?

Hey Alex, I’m probably missing something here, but I thought I heard you say you couldn’t find “wiper link” on the forester, but I saw it when you were in the “auto light sensor” setting. Wiper link was at the bottom when you clicked on auto light sensor. It is on my ‘23 Forester Wilderness in the same place. I might be mis-understanding though😅

Is there a way to disable the auto dimming high beams? They have a tendency to dim when reflected off a white street signs like speed limit signs. Not good on dark winding roads!

Do you know about the issue about the thermal control valve around 60k on the Forester? I just spent almost $2000 on my 2020 Forester with 66k miles and my warranty just expired. I asked the service advisor why this happened and no answer.
@mattsbrute7 ай бұрын
If you had it replaced, you got the upgraded replacement part which came out in Feb of 2022. You wont have an issue again. Subaru was reimbursing customers that had the TCV problem. Id check into it because they were mailing out letters to owners to get it fixed free of charge and would reimburse people who paid out of pocket.

I need to find out how to disable the warning chimes when I have a long load and I can't close the hatch. I saw a couple of videos about flipping the latch over but I have never been able to get this to work... it should be simple... but I can't get it to work or find a method to silence the alarm

Alex, do appreciate your videos (recently obtained a 2020 OBL; Subaru #4). But I am curious, if these are fairly popular features why are they hidden? Why doesn't SoA include a brief "Hey look at this cool stuff" brochure in the documentation? Have to say, moving up from a 2013 OBL, I was excited by the tech upgrades in the 2020, but finding out the infotainment system has a 250+ page manual was more than a little daunting.

Searching through your videos and I haven't found the answer yet. We have a 2024 Forester Touring. Is there a way to set the audio profile to match up with the driver profile? My wife and I each have an audio profile set but the system will seem to randomly change to the other profile every so often.

Hi. Is there a way to stop the seat belt warning chime for the rear seats in subaru forester 2023
@alexpmoАй бұрын
@@soumik88 there’s no work around except for clicking the seatbelt in place. It’s weight sensitive so should only chime when someone is sitting back there.
