Back in September last year, I had some free time in Frankfurt between flights, and naturally went looking to see if there were any interesting planes I could fly on.
Lo and behold, I found just that on one of Condor's many flights to Palma de Mallorca, Spain! Condor still operates some of the rare Boeing 757-300, of which only 55 were built, and I knew I had to take the opportunity to try the world's longest single-aisle airliner!

CORRECTION: The Douglas DC-8-73 is the longest single-aisle plane at 187.4 feet - the 757-300 is 178 feet. The 757-300 is still the longest single-aisle plane currently carrying passengers today though!

@@marcd6897 I'd gladly pick Heathrow T5 or CDG T2 (excluding the 2G gates, of course) over that aging, multi-level maze that is FRA T1. My personal favorite: If you arrive on a Non-Schengen flight, after walking up and down several sets stairs and trotting down corridors that do not seem to end and after finally passing immigration with a comically undersized non-EU passport line and passing thorugh what looks like THE customs channel, you actually leave the secure area and enter the landside arrivals hall. Without collecting your bags. For that, you have to spot and walk down another rather inconspicous looking set of stairs (with a "flight guests only" sign as the only security measure next to it) to finally enter an underground baggage claim area. With an, of course, 2nd customs checkpoint at the far side of it.

As a German avgeek and average Condor enjoyer, I want to give some more insight. I flew to Gran Canaria on the Canary islands aboard a Condor 753 (D-ABOB, D-ABOH on the return flight). As someone who is 1.95m tall (6.4 ft for all Americans) I really enjoyed their seats... They don't offer any IFE via those audio outputs but the screens show information (altitude, speed etc) throughout the flight. I can also confirm that Condor has some lovely pilots, they make by far the funniest announcements and are quite friendly. By the way, "Wir lieben Fliegen", which was written on the heart 757 does not only translate into "we love to fly" but also into "we love flies", for that reason there is the small insect on the horizontal stabilizer of the plane. I'm glad that you enjoyed the flight just as I did on my trip. Thanks.

*@@boblatham7696 Yes, overall length of both Tu-144 and Concorde was longer than the 757-300 (by about 35 feet and 24 feet, respectively) but the passenger cabin was significantly shorter. The DC-8-61 and -63 were about 9 feet longer. Considering aircraft models still flying, the 757-300 is the longest single-aisle. Not certain but I believe the only DC-8s still flying are a couple of DC-8-72s (re-engined -62s), 30 feet shorter than the -61 and -63.

I flew with Condor´s 757-300 from Hamburg/ Germany to the Canary Islands and back before the Pandemic - the four-and-a-half-hour-trips were usual standard in comfort for European Carriers - some LCC-Carriers like Ryanair are flying the route with even smaller legrooms. The 757-300 are unique and so were my impressions from that flights, too. Condor had once 15 of it, but are retiring them now piece by piece - 8 of them are still in service at the moment, all of them between 20 and 25 years old. What I´m remembering is how overwhelmed the Spanish Ground Handlers on Gran Canaria obviously were with this large aircraft: They needed nearly two hours to unload the luggage and the return flight departed with a huge delay. Thank you very much for this Trip Report!🙂💛👍

I’ve worked as a flight attendant one of Condor’s 757-300’s when it was leased to Transavia one summer, around 2002. I think it was D-ABOH. Had to con my way into joining the select few to get qualified and actually work it. As noted, the cabin is endless. Walking from one galley to the other and back to fetch something was a 100 meter walk, so it was great exercise. One unique feature that stood out was the camera in the forward galley, to be used by the lead flight attendant to broadcast themself over all video monitors in the cabin. Awesome stuff.

I worked the 'standard' 757 and the -300. We were the only airline in the UK that had them. JMC became Thomas Cook, and I think eventually, Condor had some of our aircraft as there was some kind of affiliation between the two. Flying the standard pencil was long enough, but on the 300, you walked for miles every day! A skipper said to us on our first flight on it, if you had crew seats at doors 2 on take off and landing just look how much the back galley wobbles around. Same in flight, if it was lumpy, stand in either galley and watch the far end just bounce around! Quite a sight to behold. I have to say though, the 757s were amazing machines to work on and the thrill of hearing those RR RB211s powering us skyward like a homesick angel never got boring! Useless fact - did you know the -300 variant has a skid under the tail to prevent damage? It lowers and raises with the landing gear.

I mainly remember my one and only 757-300 flight for a ridiculous reason. I had been in Houston for a conference and back home, bad weather was on the way to mess up my flight back to Newark. So I rebooked my flight, but since my original flight had not been cancelled yet (it eventually was, so I guess I still made the right call), I had to pay the difference in the fare plus a change fee. The new fare was several times more than the original fare, using the "because we can" system of airline pricing. I got on the 753 and found that I had the whole aft cabin, the last 8 or 9 rows, to myself. Basically, United had used me to cut their losses for this fairly empty flight. Cool.

The 300 in the new Condor "ringelsocke" livery must be a sight to behold! I flew on an Icelandair 757 last year and my ears were not prepared for those engines. The return leg on a Max was like golden silence by comparison.

I almost lost a mouthful of coffee reading your reasons for being on the flight … I’m a nerd 😂 … love the sense of humour, Alex. Great video.

Just discovered ur channel. I’m binge watching. It’s unique from other channels. If I may recommend an airline, not so many ppl review el al, u should fly on their 787-8.

Thank you sharing your flights here. You made me laugh 😂 about the leg room on the 757s. I love those aircraft as well. But I need more leg room because I stand 6'2" so, when I have traveled on them I try to get the Exit Seating to get way more leg room. And then the window seat on the right side and it it the second row passed Door 2R gives you so much leg room on the USA flights. But I do like First/Business/Polaris Class sections on our United or American Airlines. I have the transcontinental flights on the 757-200s and I have flown to Hawaii out of Los Angeles on them in First Class. I have not flown on the 757-300s. I heard that United Airlines got the 757-300 from the merger take over of the old but nice Continental Airlines. Friends have told me that those aircraft are so long. Now, see, for me the old DC-8 Super 63s were very long. The old history of Braniff Airlines had those old great history aircraft!!!! By the way, I am a little bit of a nerd myself!!! And a former Purser Flight Attendant from a USA airlines as well. I noticed on you second flight as they were getting ready to turn on to the runway, the cockpit power up as they were making that left turn!! Sweet!! I have loved it when that has happened!!!!

I flew the Condor B757-300 one single time on a flight from Tenerife-South to my homeairport Düsseldorf (DUS). Very nice flight but without any service whatsoever on a 4:15h flight .....!

I flew on condors 757-300 (D-ABOF) to Hurghada in Egypt once. Little tip: the First 7 or 8 rows are „premium economy“ where they have quite a bit more legroom and leave the middle seat free. But if they can’t sell all of those, they open them up for economy and you can book those for no extra cost (without the free middle seat ofc). At least that’s how it worked for us in 2022

Flew on Continental 757 300 years ago to vegas reminded me of the Air Canada stretch DC 8 in turbulence the both seem to bend left to right in the middle very noticeable when you sit near the rear of the plane

Condor / LH launched the 757-300 as well. They were the launch customer in 1999.

Such a nice plane! I flew on it from Madeira to Munich. My luck because Condor changed the plane from a A320 to this 757-300 :)

James Dillon 0 seconds ago ALEX!! First time viewer!! I just subscribed!! I always wondered what the AC JETZ logo meant when I was sitting in the first class lounge @ YYZ!! I really miss flying and enjoyed your channel today. I have to tell you that I had the "distinct pleasure" as a employee of SHELL GLOBAL to fly back and forth to Dubai from YYZ for 5 amazing years, first class, on EMIRATES A-380!! Truly an amazing adventure!! It was a "TOTAL" revelation of how "the other half travels"!! The people, the lounges, the staff, the food and the wonderful EMIRATES staff who were incredible and understood what "first class" meant and they had it down pat!! I retired 5 years ago and have not flown since!! This video whet my appetite to pursue a new adventure this summer!! I will continue to watch your video's and thanks for your efforts!! Greetings from Canada !! GIDDYUP!!

I’ll be excited to finally add the -300 with Delta later this summer having flown on the -200. United also having the RB211’s, my cousin Swayne Martin says the -300 is more sluggish to fly and award un crosswinds than the -200’s, both of which are surprisingly heavier on the controls stay in the 767’s.

I made once the mistake of pre-booking row 9F on the Condor 753 DUS-FUE and it was Seefunk. And I am a very regular 180cm. So return flight we booked the door 3 emergency exit seats, which were great. And yes, on longer flights Condor does show a movie. All in all, Condor is a well known name for German tourists and I like to fly with them. During the climb when crossing the East coast of Mallorca, you saw the Cap Formentor, an amazing lighthouse 180m above the cliffs with a long and narrow windy road with awesome views along the coast. If you’re looking for a little break let me know. I work in the travel industry and can assist you to book a German package holiday, including flights you may want to checkboxes like Vueling, EasyJet or even Ryanair (🤓) Sundair is also worthwhile to check out.
