George Lucas revealing his original plans for the sequel trilogy: "After the Rebels won, there were no more stormtroopers in my version of the third trilogy." "Episode VII, VIII, and IX would take ideas from what happened after the Iraq War. "Okay, you fought the war, you killed everybody, now what are you going to do?" Rebuilding afterwards is harder than starting a rebellion or fighting the war. When you win the war and you disband the opposing army, what do they do?" "The stormtroopers would be like Saddam Hussein's Ba'athist fighters that joined ISIS and kept on fighting. The stormtroopers refuse to give up when the Republic win. They want to be stormtroopers forever, so they go to a far corner of the galaxy, start their own country and their own rebellion." "There's a power vacuum so gangsters, like the Hutts, are taking advantage of the situation, and there is chaos. The key person is Darth Maul, who had been resurrected in The Clone Wars cartoons - he brings all the gangs together." "Darth Maul trained a girl, Darth Talon, who was in the comic books, as his apprentice. She was the new Darth Vader, and most of the action was with her. So these were the two main villains of the trilogy. Maul eventually becomes the godfather of crime in the universe because, as the Empire falls, he takes over." "The movies are about how Leia - I mean, who else is going to be the leader? - is trying to build the Republic. They still have the apparatus of the Republic but they have to get it under control from the gangsters. That was the main story." "It starts out a few years after Return of the Jedi and we establish pretty quickly that there's this underworld, there are these offshoot stormtroopers who started their own planets, and that Luke is trying to restart the Jedi. He puts the word out, so out of 100,000 Jedi, maybe 50 or 100 are left. The Jedi have to grow again from scratch, so Luke has to find two- and three-year-olds, and train them. It'll be 20 years before you have a new generation of Jedi." "By the end of the trilogy Luke would have rebuilt much of the Jedi, and we would have the renewal of the New Republic, with Leia, Senator Organa, becoming the Supreme Chancellor in charge of everything."

Unpopular Opinion but the Anakin Saga (Prequels) is the greatest to me. It's what sparked my interest in the franchise. As a protagonist he had more charisma than Luke who is boring and Rey who is unrelateable. Add the fact he has great supporting cast in young Obi, Windu, Mace, Yoda. The only downside was the dialogue. However the novels it created are gold.

DeeLan George Lucas was already pretty loaded as far as wealth was concerned, So selling Star Wars wasn’t a huge monetary benefit and was more of a breakup then anything. George also put the responsibility of raising his family over his creation. Even in an interview with Seth macfarlane George stated the one thing he wanted to be remembered for was “Raising his Kids.” And you are forgetting the very reason he sold it was because a bunch of Salty OT fans were unsatisfied that the prequels didn’t reach their ridiculous demands, George sold it because if he was ever involved with it in the future Fans would complain. Funny how that turned out in the end. Now more then ever a majority of fans wish George would come back, but it’s to little, too late.

George has his flaws, and it seemed like he realized that. But he had a vision, a vision that created Star Wars. He gave us a wonderful universe full of stories, and we all attacked him for the bad ones. All George wanted was to tell the greatest story he could, but Disney wanted money. George deserves so much better, and if he ever gets a chance to make another, we should give him it. After all, he’s the one who started this all.

George is a terrible dialogue writer but he has an amazing imagination that we shouldn’t look over.
@andromedastar49005 жыл бұрын
Yes. GL has a great imagination, he's a true visionary. He knew how to create a setting and make it come alive, make it immersive. He knew how to show the complexity and intricacy of the setting. None of Disney's stupid crap that they have the gall to call "Star Wars" has any world-building whatsoever. It's bland, boring, decrepit, and looks and feels absolutely nothing like the SW universe. It's extremely limited and small and it looks like shit made by people who neither know anything about SW nor do they know or care how to depict the setting. I can ignore bad writing and characterization, but I can't overlook or ignore it when they don't even have the basics right. Disney doesn't even have the basics down and nothing they shit out remotely resembles SW, it's downright appalling. On top of that, the writing is terrible and the characters are cardboard cutouts, and you have no redeeming qualities. None of the six GL movies was perfect, but it was easy to ignore bad writing because he did such a great job of making it feel like what it is and what it's supposed to be...a completely different world with its own complexity and amazing visual settings that make you feel that it's a lived-in setting and you can imagine being there. There are parts where the writing is bad, but it's not the whole thing, and overall it's still a pretty good and intriguing story. Another example is Bioware's SWTOR, which is full of bad writing and dialogue but they have the world-building and setting on point, so I still enjoyed playing the game. I would say the best ever SW are the KOTOR games and some of the comics/novels. They are the perfect combo of great world-building/depiction and understanding of setting + very good writing.
@mattj41124 жыл бұрын
That sums it up perfectly. A lot of other creators are able to take the material he’s crafted and made genuinely amazing individual stories. He’s one of the best world builders out there, if only he was more of a team player.
@andromedastar49004 жыл бұрын
@@mattj4112 Exactly, up until Disney, every single writer and book, comic, game or any sort of media (no matter how bad or good it is) expanding on SW universe has had an immense respect for the lore, the way the force works, the setting, the worldbuilding, etc. This is why it all had the SW look and feel. That's why you can find something to like and enjoy about all of it no matter if some aspects have bad writing. Disney however, not only has no respect for any of it, but totally massacres it, butchers it, shits on it, then flushes it down the toilet. This is why it's a huge mistake what GL did in trusting them and selling them the franchise. He killed the franchise the day he closed that sale.
@RamenzillaX4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, he has a tendency (which is blazingly obvious in the prequel films) to have to explain emotions that should be subtle through awkward dialogue. The romance between Padme and Anakin almost never felt sweet or genuine, thanks to dialogue, even though he had great actors filling the roles. He needs someone else to edit his grand ideas, but the ideas and themes are there. I wish we could know what his outline for the next trilogy was. Maybe one day.

If you look at Star Wars story telling.. you will not criticize the prequels. As George said.. it is just a opera, a space opera. Beautifully told and wonderfully executed. It was an artist showing his art to the world. I love how he said "it's not about space ships" because he was right. What good can space ships, the force, duels, visuals do if you don't have a good story to back it up? Disney's Star Wars just proved Lucas was right.

Lucas was a one of a kind film maker. You'll never see an independent, creating this type of cinema on such a scale, ever again. Now, all of these huge IP's are owned by the studios and the shareholders and are pumping out cookie-cutter crap. If Lucas hadn't come under such harsh criticism for the prequels, he may have kept going and we would have gotten to see his vision for the sequel trilogy. Thanks to all the armchair critics and RLM types, we ended up with a steaming pile of corporate dog turd. All i wanted, was to be able to see Lucas finish HIS story, the way HE intended, ever since reading about his plans in a 1983 copy of TIME Magazine.
@warlordofbritannia2 жыл бұрын
Blaming “armchair critics and RLM” for Lucas selling Star Wars and the sequel trilogy is ridiculously unselfaware-like, you’re just replacing one scapegoat (Lucas) with another, instead of placing the actual blame where it belongs: on Disney’s colossal mismanagement. But you are right about Lucas being one of a kind-he was the last of the great independent directors of the ‘70s, before the studios took over IPs and streamlined the whole industry. Yet Lucas (thanks to his success of Star Wars) was able to survive that seismic shift, something that even at their worst made the prequels unique and thought-proving.

If George has done it, 7 would be that way it is and 8 even less, so what are talking about

George Lucas is one of the best writers in history. From naming characters to creating the lightsaber to destroying planets with a mini man made moon.

J.J. Abrams & Rian Johnson were Star Wars fans as well. Hence, it truly is the fandom that's destroying the franchise after turning against Lucas during the prequels. And given that actors Jake Lloyd, Kelly Marie Tran, Ahmed Best (who contemplated suicide), etc... had to endure bullying & harassment for simply doing their jobs; this franchise deserves to be destroyed.

I really hate how Disney changed it. I feel bad for Lucas. Star Wars was his dream..

Drue Langlois did an absolutely smashing parody of George Lucas in his "Staying Positive In The Apocalypse" series. Not anything malicious, just a spot-on impression. Always been a Star Wars fan since 79, and participated in the first ever High School art class in the USA that used Star Wars as a syllabus. Made amazing art projects with BHSFX that would shape me for a lifetime. (Berea High School, Ohio BHSfx 1995

After reading George Lucas’s plans for the third trilogy, I said: this is the worlds punishment for the criticism (that wasn’t even really deserved) to the prequels. If they never gave this criticism, it is likely that George Lucas would have never left. These plans would have became the new movies. They most likely would have been far better than the horrendous “Skywalker saga” that Disney created. If Those people really thought the prequels were bad, they would go on to see a set of sequels that were far, far worse.

This man is such a special soul expressively, internally and verbally. Clearly an amazing story teller down to every last detail! Should’ve always had creative control over the franchise even after selling it, for sure . He’s the reason we still discover new parts of the force and how it effected every decision in the sequels/prequels to this day!!!!

He did write story treatments for the sequels. And Disney discarded them for their own hollow fan fiction.

He is truly an inspiration and an icon. He created and founded and worked on something amazing! Hence Star Wars, Indiana Jones franchises and has his own museum founded with his wife Mellody Hobson in 2014.

Spaceboyzero A ton of people (including myself) were mournful when that transition was announced because we KNOW how liberal Disney is. A toxic corporate garbage generator that virtue signals, doesnt give a single fuck about preserving original content whose only concern is profit. I havent seen any of the Disney made star wars films because I knew they would be hot trash..and no surprise, most of the fans publicly express their hate for them. Even Tolkien told his heirs to never ever sell anything to Disney, they will ruin it.

The Mandalorian season 2 has ended. Dave Filoni and Jon Favrau have successfully revived Star Wars and brought new and old fans together. Something JJ Abrams didn’t even try to do. Dave and Jon should de-canonise the sequel trilogy and give us their take.
@user-dk7mz1py7l3 жыл бұрын
Why and how do you know JJ didn’t try to?
@deanmurphy73073 жыл бұрын
@@user-dk7mz1py7l Disney had 3 chances to impress fans. They blew all 3. They must’ve been trying to appeal to a newer audience because they showed complete disregard for the characters from the older movies. Especially Luke. The last 3 movies split the fan base.

The Disney Trilogy never existed...like he said this whole trilogy should of been outlined BEFORE filmed and agreed upon with all directors and writers before 7. KK needs to be fired.

You start to appreciate things only when they are gone... Everyone was bitching about prequels and stuff until George Lucas decided to retire... You got what you wanted and now you're paying the price...

2nd trilogy was better than the first in my opinion it had better acting, better effects, a lot of memorable moments (like a LOT) and it was pretty good overall movies for its time. Not saying that the classic trilogy is bad or anything every Star Wars fan knows the truth. All im tryna say is that there was absolutely no reason to hate George Lucas. Look at what disney has created...
