@MajorCoolD5 ай бұрын
Yeah like I DONT get why people were giving the Prequels so much shit. I mean yeah, sometimes the whole thing with Anakin and Padme seemed a bit arkward and cringe... but fuck we are talking about a 5 year age-gap where the half-Orphan and then later on full orphan boy is able to act on his childhood crush, despite it being forbidden by the Organisation that shaped most of his adult life and helped him hone his most powerfull and extraordinary skills. Then there's also the fact that Anakin was older than most Jedi when he was being taught, the fact he never had 'a father' as such and that Obi Wan was more like a big brother to him when he should've been something akin to a surrogate father. And we shouldnt forget that Anakin's freedom came with him having to abandon his mother. I mean if that isnt making you feel guilty and fucked up... As for Padme, for her well he's a cute/handsome boy/man, their relationship is forbidden and he is a man with exceptional talents and probably one of the potentially most powerfull Jedi in the entire GALAXY! Heck, I can see how this can have a certian allure to her. And heck, romances CAN be arkward for those outside of it I'd say! XD

i... don't think that's anything he ever had a problem with. He didn't train with other younglings/padawans, he strictly trained under Obi-Wan. And we never saw anyone look down on him, especially not for his age. That's not how the Jedi do things. And in Episode 3, when the younglings run to greet him you can clearly see respect and admiration towards him. He was immature and brooding because he started training too late, like Yoda and Windu feared. He grew an attachment to his mother and never learned to control his emotions.
@emoxvx6 ай бұрын
Exactly. The people who complain about Anaking being "whiny" or "angsty" just want to see a Vader power fantasy. SW wasn't about power fantasies back then. And the films weren't nearly as hated when they came out. As with everything that's popular there's gonna be a group of people who hate it for no justifiable reason and SW fans are especially toxic and have been for a long time. Nowadays, every time anything new comes out you'll get a ton of "fans" saying "oh, it's woke garbage" or any right-wing talking points without actually adressing the projects themselves. Back then it was because they were expecting to see the OT again and when the films didn't match their expectations then somehow there must have been something deeply wrong with the films and not with the audience being stupid. The thing is that these criticisms of Hayden Christensen's performance and the character of Anakin don't come from these people engaging with the films themselves, it comes from the films not being what they expected. Their criticism is that the prequels weren't the films they imagined in their man-child brains for years before they came out. There was always negative talk online surrounding the films but when RLM dropped their """critique""" of Episode I, it was then that a lot of SW "fans" started shitting on the prequels as well. It's revisionist to say that "the critics" agreed the films were """bad""". Who were the critics in question that all agreed with this? Basement dwellers? There were critics who didn't like the films and there were critics who liked the films. The thing is, if you go read reviews of the films at the time, by far most of the criticism is concerning the individual's expectations, deep misunderstanding of the films and the rest of it is criticism of things that aren't in the films.

The part that this video is missing is the fact that Hayden chose to take a step back from his career because he wasn't mentally coping too well with the large amount of fame being in SW garnered. That's why he bought a farm in the middle of nowhere in Ontario when episode iii came out. Hayden said during episode iii press that playing Darth Vader would be the biggest thing of his career going forward so he wouldn't bother trying to top that character because it was impossible. Also, he was offered big roles after SW but decided to go back to indie where he'd come from. He was offered Edward in Twilight before Robert Pattinson ( writer of the book series Stephanie Meyer actually wrote the character with him in mind). He also was offered Superman Returns. His agent at the time called him crazy for turning roles like that down. Hayden fired him. The only reason he did Jumper was because Samuel L Jackson asked him to (the studio fired the original lead Tom Sturridge two weeks before filming was starting). It's kinda like what happened with Josh Hartnett who also decided to step back from Hollywood after becoming overwhelmed by fame and has only now come back.

@@troysmith5749 Career wise what happened was he was being offered huge roles like Batman that he kept turning down. He said he preferred smaller budget films like 30 Days of Night. This ended up making the major studios and his agent mad. He did not want to deal with the Hollywood politics and let them shape his career based on what they expected him to do. As a result acting became less fun for him. In his personal life as he got more famous he started having stalkers. Some guy showed up to one of his premieres with a gun saying he was Josh's real dad. Two names. Jake Lloyd (young anakin) and Ahmed Best (Jar Jar). Jake’s acting career was ruined by bullying and online threats from people who did not like or understand his performance. Even though he did nothing wrong and acted quite fine as a kid. Ahmed Best also did a great job as Jar Jar Binks. A character who was supposed inspired by Bugs Bunny and actually has a very important role in the Phantom Menace. Ahmed’s career afterwards while never officially ended was in turmoil as well as him even considering taking his own life at one point to the same reasons. Online threats and bullying. So I’m not surprised if Hayden Christiansen has had difficulty given the fact that OG fanboy fanatics bullied everyone to the moon back over the prequels. Of which was unjustified and uncalled for.

@Macken-n9l5 ай бұрын
@@arachnophilia427 Ok, I agree that the hatred should not have been taken out on them. However, I disagree not because I’m unwilling to believe. But rather because the prequels as a whole are a great story about the fall of the old republic and rise of the Empire. And we as the audience have no right to tell the writer (George Lucas) how his creation should be. Not to mention there are more practical effects in the prequels than the origin trilogy. And the use of CGI was an artistic choice by George and used to a degree no movie had done before. George should be praised for that, because it was revolutionary at the time. And I’ve actually gone back and watched the films and the movies have a convincing storyline that follows Anakin’s slow descent to the dark side. If you want more evidence, go watch Anomaly Inc. Lastly, if you hate the prequels because you just didn’t like them, then fine. To each his own taste in films. But if you say that the films are objectively bad, I’d like to see your evidence and what the standard is for a good film. Which if we’re looking at storytelling alone. George’s prequel films hold strong. They each have a convincing plot, a strong conflict, characters that actually talk and grow, an overall theme, and a setting of where they take place. And here, I’ll link the first video I think you should watch from Anomaly Inc’s Revenge of the Prequels. He has a total of 16 videos (as of me writing this comment) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nWeqlKacqJmmhtUsi=WfL8j7A8AYBDRqmE You should start with this one in my opinion.

TO BE FAIR -- The only actor from the OT who was able to establish themselves as any kind of household name was Harrison Ford. -- Outside of Alec Guiness, who was already a name to classic film fans. You could argue Mark Hamill as a VO actor, but you have to already be into VO to know the roles that he's played -- not exactly general public knowledge.
@berranari16 ай бұрын
That's exactly right. But I know that Mark played Pamela Anderson's uncle in VIP. He was the live action Trickster, but that was because he was already the cartoon voice of the Trickster. But it was nice to see him in both of those roles. But yeah this whole video is not good. I think it's a typical KZbin, look at this, I am discovering something that is not really a thing. Hayden had a better than average career as a film actor. Wait he said Chris Evans is always going to be Captain America? What is he born yesterday? I saw him as Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four and in the trailer this nurse said "he was hot". 😂

I could have done the same thing with Carrie Fisher and Billy Dee Williams. But I don't agree with the whole point. I agree with you. The video is stupid in my opinion. If you look at a few hit movies you will find that there are many actors who have appeared in less than Hayden Christiansen. And sometimes it is because of certain problems and incidents. Sometimes they choose the wrong people, and they don't have the money or the timing is bad. Like why Katie Holmes is in one Batman movie and not the other one. That's because of the schedule apparently. But that is more interesting than this Star Wars video. Just for the views. 😒 But you're onto it. 👍

The entire premise of this video only works if you ignore the fact that the same thing happened to Mark Hamill. After Return of the Jedi, he didn't have another film role for 6 years and only managed a few TV roles in that time. When he did start getting roles again, they were mostly bad B movies and one-off TV roles until he went for voice acting in the 90s. He's even said in interviews that it was hard to get work after Star Wars because even though he'd done a lot in his career, casting directors would flat out tell him that he was Luke Skywalker and that's all he'll ever be.

In fact I don't even blame George Lucas because a slave being awkward and cringey when talking to his crush is realistic. Same slave being an emotional wreck is also logical. Fortunetely, Hayden is getting the love he always desserved. He is being appreciated. I grew up in the transitionary period between the Prequel Era (1999-2005) and the Sequel Era (2015-2019), so I was aware the Prequel Trilogy was hated by Star Wars Fans and a lot of people, at a very young age. Which is ironic, because I grew up with Dave Feloni’s Clone Wars which feels like a better version of the Prequel Trilogy while also enhancing that trilogy. So I guess I’m basically a hypocrite. Honestly, the Prequel Hate was basically the Millennials/Gen X’s equivalent to the Sequel Hate that’s been going on since the Last Jedi. A lot of the same problems that we Gen Zs have towards the Sequel Trilogy (Mostly) are pretty much the same as how the Millennials & Gen Exs had towards the Prequel Trilogy. I'm excited to see what roles he does next. Kinda reminds me of Robert Pattinson, you can see the respect for acting and dedication is there.

It arguably also helps that "Prequel Memes" became a thing and the internet turned basically every scene (hell, almost every *line* ) into a gag. Enjoying the movies "ironically" eventually ended up becoming unironic enjoyment.

It's the culmination of multiple factors at the same time - 1. Some were too young at the time of movies, they only found a voice now. 2. Haters were louders than likers and drowned the positive voices. 3. And, as in my case, only were introduced to Star Wars recently. Force Awakens was my first Star Wars media. I like Hayden and the prequels most (I don't like the CGI cartoon show much nor their version of Anakin).

I always found the prequels to be sooo Shakespearean. They have a special charm that other movies don’t have. I feel like critics just wanted the prequels to be just like the OT. That’s why they loved the sequels while fans grew tired. Most of the prequel hate was from the media. It’s a shame Hayden was treated so terribly

@@davemac9563The execution was brilliant in a ton of ways, you can obviously find problems here and there and if they're deal breakers for you there's nothing wrong with that (I know plenty of people who can't stand ESB because they can't get past the creepy Han-Leia romance). I mean the original starwars was already not truly a masterpiece in writing & such. "A new hope"s storytelling felt kinda wooden. The Build-up of some story stages to the next one lacked some propper transition. Part 2 & 3 were solid but also not really overwhelming. What is one who tries to build further on it's movie legacy suposed to do? It just stood out at it's time, which is something you can't really recreate nowadays. There is other & often better space opera in books & comics, which would be nice to see on cinema as well, but sadly hollywood regulary fails at atttempts of doing so.

This, I am willing to grant. I must assume that the Anakin we got matched Lucas' vision, which meant Hayden as an actor did what Lucas wanted him to do. Unfortunately, it wasn't what a lot of us wanted to see - even if teenage Anakin was vastly more bearable than pre-teen (Lloyd), he was still stiff and unnatural in a way we have seen in no other Jedi with even minimal training, much less one who would become Vader.

Mark Hamill's biggest acting gig besides Star Wars was...Guyver? Which is obviously legendary, but being big in one series doesn't automatically translate to stardom elsewhere. Obviously, he found what some people might even consider his true calling in voice acting, but yeah. Even if you take out Star Wars, Hayden's career is something most actors would love to have. It's not "great", but he constantly had the opportunity not only for steady work but to pick a lot of his projects, a lot like Daniel Radcliffe (although it would have been nice if he got as weird with it). The more interesting thing is how, according to IMDB, he, Ewan McGregor, and Natalie Portman all started getting gigs in the industry in 93/94.

The thing is about becoming a huge star due to a super popular role, is if you haven't been established as a known actor before that, you are screwed. At least, you won't be able to escape that role. You used Chris Evans as an example but he was already established as a known actor before captain america. For example, I knew him from scott pilgrim but he also had a lot of other roles that were somewhat known.
