I like this lesson but lemme clear up some vocab for ya'll. The words beat and bar were being used interchangeably, but in a 4 bar phrase in 4/4 like this you have 4 beats per bar and 16 beats in a 4 bar loop. Counted properly, that ride rhythm isn't a triplet but 3 dotted eighths (eighth and a half) starting on the off-beat ( dead center between beats of a bar) of beat 1 of the bar. Small thing but important difference if you want to communicate that since if you try to use a triplet grid to write that rhythm you'll need to bump things up to 12 divisions per beat/48 divisions in a bar to find the right spot. Also the "... second kick in between.. whatever.. these thick lines here", that's hitting on the off-beat of 2.
@MattHall3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this important. If you start mixing these words up while working with other people it’ll really confuse the situation.

Thanks for this. Question: why do you have each drum instrument on an independent track rather than having one drum kit track with the whole beat within? Is it easier to work with or just easier to show your working on camera?
@XanderMohan2 жыл бұрын
It means that u are free to assign different plugins to different parts of the kit slightly easier. Like you might wanna compress your bass drum a lot, and maybe add a tape delay (Led Zep style). You can eq and edit the sounds within one track normally (depending on the drum machine ur using) but it's more problematic when u want to add certain effects. So separating them out makes it easy.
@TanoshiSan2 жыл бұрын
I would 100% recommend all producers who are using midi for their drums to stay away from using drum kits, you can accomplish the same end results doing it either way but when you have independent tracks for each part of your drums there's a mindset shift of being really intentional on how each part of the drums is being processed (eq/audio effects/ect). Drum kits are still very useful for people who want to use drum pads for live performances or just experimenting
