As an avid listener of music I think such techniques sound better when not overproduced (such as without the swing) and over incorporated (i.e repeated too many times and for too long that makes the song monotonous). These melodies must be timed perfectly in the song and should end up enhancing the overall feel of the song rather than taking over the majority of the track.

@@AFRoSHEENT3ARCMICHAEL69 They mean that they should be used for not too long or little in a song. Melodies should be used as a "spice" of sorts for your track without demanding *all* the attention, and instead allowing other parts to have some attention too.

Question from a novice, and please let me know if I’m way off or this is a dumb question, but are some of the sounds you use treated with reverb? I was following along with one of your videos earlier today and I couldn’t get mine to sound quite the way yours did until I added reverb. I really enjoy your content and followed!

there’s definitely reverb

Standard quarter note yes but it's on the off-beat or the "And" of the 8th note. It's not on the 1.

@@0zone_X-u9x NOPE! Swing is called swing here, too. Go to the top of the channel rack/step sequencer rack, you'll find a little knob there, and that's swing in FL.

@@0zone_X-u9x no strum is the spreading of a chord. Swing is making a sound slightly off beat

Swing makes music sound like it was made by a person and not a computer. Humans cannot play perfectly on the grid, a perfect example so you understand is if you listen to music from like the 70s etc its not on perfect timing and just has a beautiful vibe to it. Because we make music on computers and alot of us cannot play an instrument, we have to add swing to make the music sound more realistic.

Ummm the swing thing did it really do that much difference? I find producers will do a lot of buttons that make like zero changes to the sound . Maybe I need headphones to hear it . I’m sure it did like a marginal difference but then again all those marginal differences add up to a good mix down
