Really interesting interview - despite reading Wings, I have rarely seen him interviewed/ speaking "in person". Interesting also to see 2 individuals who have been vilified so much with such little basis, but both now standing head and shoulders above their detractors, and who both contribute so much to the indy cause.

Stu being diplomatic early on when he knows damn fine that the YES Scotland, led by Blair Jenkins the ex-BBC journalist, was doing next to nothing to promote the YES vote and treated Wings Over Scotland as if it had leprosy. The person put in charge of garnering a YES vote in the actual SNP was the person we now blame for dismantling the YES movement, none other that the doughty Nicola Sturgeon. Yes, Alex was a leader when we needed a leader but he made huge mistakes that resound even to this day. Stu is correct in saying that the party is too far gone and all the people who could have undone the damage have been hounded out. It leaves us with a vacuum and alot of people who gave their trust to the SNP now feel betrayed and sickened not only by the SNP but by politics in general.

Well said Stuart, especially the last point about it boiling down to whether or not you believe Scotland is a country. It really is that simple and I've seen some Unionists get very uncomfortable and defensive when called out on this publicly (although the mask has been dropped now). I dont think we're going to achieve independence through party politics because what has been done to the SNP will also be done to whatever party takes their place. The UK political system is too corrupt - and Holyrood is part of it.

You should read Scottish government own figures in GERS reports last 10 years . Last year Scotland had a 10.4 %fiscal deficit compared to 4.5 % for UK. At that level,independence and any Scottish currency and not economically viable, and monetary requirements to join EU totally unachievable. On top of that,60% of Scottish external trade is with rUK compared to 19% for EU.Leaving UK single market would devastate Scottish economy. But don't worry,independence is dead and buried!!

GERS figures are provided by the UK treasury, the real question is why they are published at all given it's a Tory propaganda construct and has no legitimacy whatsoever. They are made up ENGLISH figures from HM Treasury who had NO break down of Scotland's contributions to various accounts in Revenue - SO THEY ISSUE SCOTGOV ROUGH GUESSES & oh! What a surprise - the Treasury do NOT record them to Scotland's BENEFIT. And no - Scotland has NO FISCAL DEFICIT! It CANNOT have one - it has very little in the way of borrowing powers & whatever it DOES have, has to be accountable to ENGLAND/WM! WM INSIST that Scotland's 'books' have to balance at the END OF EVERY YEAR and they have NEVER been in deficit. Au contraire, if you bothered to do ANY research, you'd find it ALWAYS HAS AN UNDERSPEND. The deficit comes from England KEEPING HALF OUR REVENUE, SPENDING MORE THAN THEY TAKE FROM US & THEN CHARGING SCOTLAND FOR THE DIFFERENCE! Scotland HAS NO CONTROL over that. I used to admire Salmond until 2014 IMHO he sold our chance of Independence. Practically every women I spoke to canvassing then either hated or did not trust him and nothing has changed since. Against Darling he was unprepared to answer the key questions on the economy and currency which worried many voters.

The common travel area includes the Republic of Ireland so clearly it works across international borders. The UK military is not fit for purpose because the ultimate budgetary authorities (the UK government) are utterly useless at their supposed jobs. But much of the UK's defence is focussed on "fighting terrorism", the very "terrorism" that the UK and its Western allies caused in the first place due to their incessant meddling where they have no business. So the UK is making life more dangerous for us, because of their foreign policy. And these UK government linked jobs you mentioned are functional jobs which would exist in an independent Scotland.
