lol I'm not gonna lie, I often look into the designs made by artists like you, being an engineering student (strange, I know). They're mostly not designed with manufacturability and feasibility in mind, but honestly artists are the only people who let their imagination go crazy and I absolutely love it. Now I badly wanna have this design 3d-printed and place it on my desk :P Love your work 😄

We're concept designers brother that's what we do, and that's what we do best. We do the stuff that the modellers can't do, (use our imaginative brains that are always on overload ready to blow...puns.) Until they can do it, and understand it. That's concept art for you. To do a feasible grenade would be a walk in the park that would be boring and too easy.... In concept art, do the unimaginative well... Cheers Alex, just bought a few of your tutorials thank you brother for all the work you put in. Best hard surface modeller out there next to Mr Bulgarov😅

Hi Alex, really, REALLY great pair of tutorials, thank you. A super quik Q: are you planning on uploading a higher resolution version? While this says its recorded/uploaded at 1080, it's really downrezed, like, really. And yes, I have checked all the settings on my end, so it's either youtube throttling while misleadingly describing it as 1080, or perhaps it's a lower rez recording that's being upscaled to 1080, but to very blurry effect. Why do I ask, because I'm very keen to follow along, step-by-step, because this is the really good isht ;)

Inspiring work.. I love your conceptual work. Good job man. Quick question.. Why don't you capture design history and work parametric? Is there a specific reason for that..? or you just prefer it. I personally always work parametric with Fusion 360. Again..good work. Take care.

First of all, amazing work! I have a small doubt though: Can I use Fusion 360 for making hard surface models that are meant to be used in game engines? (I use Unity btw, it has a plugin for importing CAD data, called 'pixyz' but its license is expensive as hell and doesn't support fusion 360, as far as I know). So....do you have any suggestions for people designing hard surface game models? Tips and tricks for better import, etc? (I've noticed that simply converting Fusion 360 files as .fbx and importing into unity them is a bad idea)
@rayly72913 жыл бұрын
You can export as FBX or OBJ and import that into Blender and fix bad topology there. The resulting topology from fusion is already pretty good. If you want more control over the topology you can export as step file (CAD) and import to MOI3d, another CAD programm. There you will have the option to export as obj, with the ability to see the resulting topology and chosse how many tris or quads you want.

It wouldn't really be possible to create a universal nerve gas that works on all possible forms of life (unless it's a nanomechanical construct), but I guess you would refill it with a specific agent for the biota of the planet you're exploring.

Hey in an intro course he said he didn't use build planes a lot, I call shenanigans. If this took Alex 4 hrs, and he's ridiculously good, this would take me 4 ever, but even seeing how he does his medium details is interesting to me. And I thought ZBrush was the way to go making screws. NFW! That was the fastest, and easiest and prettiest screw making I've ever seen. 20:10 Until I try to duplicate it. I'm gonna try... Not for nothing, but without the beer opener, it wouldn't have been complete! I'm trying to incorporate his design principles into my work...but I see a possible contradiction with regards to lights in his model compared to the constructive criticism he gives his kids with their models, usually saying less is more with lights (emissive textures in renders), so I have to study his stuff more to see if it's a contradiction, or my misunderstanding...

InstaLOD if you're not going to organically deform it, or QuadRemesher + manual fixes if you want to be able to. Or manual retopo if you're better than the other two options. I know I'm not and might never be. InstaLOD also creates some basic/good enough UVs. Not for film. For games might be ok though.

When I see things like this it's inspiring to learn Fusion 360, but the new subscription model is too expensive. Is the crippled 'free' version still capable of creating a model of this calibre? I'm worried about investing time into learning Fusion 360, and then one day Autodesk ruin it and/or discontinue the 'free' version ,'/
@ethanpenn54 жыл бұрын
Autodesk tends to do this with their software, but I believe the new "free" version is just a free trial, and the version we've been using this whole time was just an open beta of sorts to test out the product for Autodesk before they turned it into an actual money maker like the other products. The new one appears to be fully featured, except you can't export out of it, and you can only have 10 files, ever. Other than that, I don't believe there's a difference. There's always Moi3D, though I haven't used that one myself, just watched Arrimus use it.
@jeffspinner65794 жыл бұрын
@@ethanpenn5 wait, the personal "free" version I can't export an fbx or a iges or STEP? That's useless to me, are you sure? I just started, but if this is the case, I will suffer with MoI then.

@@jeffspinner6579 I may have misread, or the initial article I saw from hackaday was incorrect. Here is the most up to date link found online. knowledge.autodesk.com/support/fusion-360/learn-explore/caas/sfdcarticles/sfdcarticles/Fusion-360-Free-License-Changes.html Looks like you may still be able to export! @@ethanpenn5 ruh roh, no IGES, STEP after Jan 19th 2021 (assuming we live that long given the election...) but fbx, obj approximations ok. So it looks like they are kneecapping their software for real design purposes, but if I'm just a dude making Machinima and I need cool things that are hard to model in polygonal software, this is fine. IF I wanted to modify for a CNC machine to get a 70% lower receiver to 100% after Jan 19th, ain't gonna happen, is my understanding. It's an important point, though luckily if my read is right, it won't affect my intended purpose (don't f' it up ATDK, cause I said this, tyvm).
