Since the slasher genre exhausted itself rather quickly, the creators had nothing left but to compete with each other to see who could come up with a more sophisticated and unusual way of killing. Naturally, it quickly went beyond the bounds of reasonableness and turned into outright idiocy, which could not be taken seriously. So many horror movies in the 80s- early 90-s contained a fair share of humor - Evil Dead 2, Brain Dead, Re-Animator, Return of the Living Dead. Horror movies stopped trying to scare the viewer, but rather turned into a teenage attraction of violence, boobs, and jokes.

Actually, I recall watching this in the theater and nobody was laughing at that time. Everyone was either groaning with disbelief or rolling their eyes wondering when this movie was going to be scary rather than watching a twisted version of Gerald McBoing-Boing. There does come a time when this part of the film transitions from unbelievably cheesy and unfunny to the most hilarious thing ever featured in a horror movie, and that's when you can watch it on KZbin for free rather than pay 7 bucks to see it in a theater. I do have to admit though, the 3D effects in the last 15 minutes of the film was pretty epic to see in the theater though.

Mmhmm. Actually, though, they'd pretty much jumped the shark, back in 1989, when Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child, was so heavily edited, on the first two deaths, which is Dan's death, then Greta's death. I don't know if you know this or not, but Dan's death had to be edited at least 12 times, and Greta's death had to be heavily edited, or else the MPAA was going to slap an NC-17 rating on the movie, meaning that no one under the age of 17 could've gotten in to watch the movie. If you've ever seen the unedited death scenes of this movie, you'll understand why. They're here on KZbin, though.

Yes, it´s funny. But it´s also clear that Freddy has become his own parody. In the first NOES he was the pure evil creature maybe sent direct from Hell. It wasn´t a bad idea to make him a pun master in 3, but since 4 he became just a comic figure - like Cryptkeeper (nothing against him, but Freddy is not Cryptkeeper). There should have been only two Nightmares - the 1st and Dream Warriors. Sadly Chucky´s fate was the same. At least Freddy didn´t end married.

In fact, back when Nintendo Power did something called celebrity profile, they interviewed Robert Englund (who at the time was an avid video gamer) in Nintendo Power volume 30 which had Final Fantasy 4 on the cover.
