I’m so happy more people are finding out about Gfriend, they were huge during their time and for good reasons. Personally I love groups with distinct and consistent musical identities and Gfriend is definitely such a group, another being Dreamcatcher!

Gfriend's signature sound is orchestral pop among the industry. You can listen to a song and associate it with Gfriend because of its distinctiveness. For those who enjoy vocal and instrumental, Gfriend's music is a godsend. Thanks for the reaction.

I personally think Gfriend has one of the best discography and signature sound. None of their title tracks missed. Even the japanese releases and the B-sides I've heard. Would love to see u react to their MVs since they're making a comeback for a 10th anniversary next year ❤

GFRIEND. The "anime"-like chord progressions (LOTS of IV7-V7-iii-vi in all their songs), the midi string counter melodies (Bach would be proud), the occasional screeching guitars, the running melodies, they created their very own sound/signature which the nation fell in love with....but also (which you wouldn't see here) known for being the ULTIMATE synchronized dancing group-they have a very famous dance practice video where they dance the entire first verse of Mago all blindfolded and are nearly perfect. There's a reason why during their time they were competing and many times beating groups from the Big 3 (Blackpink, Twice, Red Velvet) even though Source Music at the time was a smaller company. And the crazy thing specifically about THIS performance....Yuju (the main vocalist on the far left) was sick during this and she still sounded like that. There's a reason why when GFRIEND, Twice, Red Velvet, and IOI performed SNSD 'Into the New World' together, it was Yuju who took all the belting parts over Red Velvet Wendy, Twice Jihyo, IOI/WJSN Yeonjeong.

and re their unison singing......it's purposeful (at least to me). The complexity of their songs are in the chord progressions and production, not in their voices. Compare these songs to a group like Oh My Girl (who I know you reacted to their Killing Voice). They're MUCH more of a vocal group and so their songs are much more "simple" (at least chord progression-wise) and the complex/interesting parts of their songs are the harmonies and extreme vocal jumps ALL the members do. Just a different philosophy in music writing/production.

i cried watching this killing voice, the same way i cried with the KARA one. GFriend was so wronged being disbanded at their peak internationally, MAGO was a hit and yet they (their company) did what they did. So i'm glad we have our girls back.

In K-Pop GFriend is special group, very special, they got hardest choreo on stage and they were creating it n their own. Joining dancing skills + vocals at the same team that's something special when seen live.

so glad you enjoyed their songs 😭 they left one of their best songs out, so if i can recommend anything else from them, it would be Sunrise! most of their songs have that kind of fairytale vibe. the other song you enjoyed (Apple) has one of their most different sounds and visuals! would also recommend checking the mv 🫡

yes sunrise was the peak of their passionate melancholy concept. if time for the moon night is the yin, then sunrise is the yang of passionate melancholy.

out of all people i watched who reacted to this who claimed they are singer/musician, you're the first one to notice the harmonies in 18:25. and yes, when you mentioned like nostalgia, that's literally their concept. nostalgia, passionate, melancholic.. they have crazy runs too in their albums. their songs are literally not for those who don't appreciate music and mixes. they established their sounding in their career already that you can actually make a song for them just by knowing their vibe and musical style, that's how they managed to get themselves in the list of one of the best ggs in 3rd gen. and, that song summer rain where you said it's an old hiphop, with piano on top.. the instrumental part of it (not included in the video but it should come right after 16:46) it's actually classical sampled. it samples instrumentals from robert schumann’s “robert schumann, dichterliebe op. 48:1,” interlacing them with propulsive beats.

It's the fusion of genres and the musical mastery in the instrumental and production choices combinrd with the 😇 angelic vocals of Gfriend. Makes their music honestly timeless. Also Gfriend (and Apink n Lovelyz) are leaders of the New Jack Swing genre.

gfriend has the most diverse and unique discography in all of kpop. i love eunha and yuju back and forth it's exactly why i love gfriend so much! the members mature vocals brings new depth and power into their songs! yeojachingu fighting!💪🏼

Koreans actually liked the old style of Gfriend (first three songs). Mago and Apple give gfriend different style because they were with Hybe. I hope the new album consists of the old style because people miss that !! I am sad they didn't get to sing Haeya

If you listen to their instruments, it certainly feels like the instruments can live on their own like magical and unique songs, the sound of the violin and strings responding to each other but not making their songs separate from the unique vocals, that's GFriend. Where their songs are actually cheerful but because of the instrumental, it makes the song seem like a sad melody.

Love seeing people getting interested in GFRIEND in 2024, they really have a unique and distinctive sound, they're actually known for their orchestral-pop sound! It makes me very happy that people still appreciate their music and of course their vocals. I seriously think you would really enjoy Sunrise (I don't know why they didn't include that one, it's one of their best), Room of Mirrors, Tarot Cards, Stairs In The North (her whole Song of The Sirens album actually) and definitely these three japanese tracks: Memoria, Fallin' Light and La Pam Pam. It would be cool if you could react to these ones❤️

hi! Buddy here! in the Dingo Music video for Oh My Girl! I said that we should get a GFRIEND reunion Dingo, this was months before the reunion was announced. In that video, some people said that GFRIEND wouldn't be a good Dingo because "they didn't have vocals". I called them crazy but they said I knew nothing. Let me thank you for proving that these girls CAN SING! They are super cute, adorable, beautiful, can dance, AND have amazing voices! Great work boss!

Gfriend as such a solid group. You can clearly see their distinctiveness from each other, yet they blend so perfectly. I'm getting goosebumps throughout the video listening to their voice.

You nailed it early on when you mentioned it sounded like the 80s. I love the snare sounds and they sometimes remind me of the snare sounds from “Don’t Wanna Fall in Love” by Jane Child. They also combine a very orchestral organic sound as well. (Edit: You just nailed that orchestral sound in Crossroads 😂)

Please do a deep dive on their music. I swear you won't be disspointed. Their instrumentals are top notch. Like you said, they have their signature sounds that continues to evolve each comeback. The fact that they used to be huge and loved by koreans really says a lot. Very few kpop girl group achieved to their level despite them coming from nugu company (pre HYBE recquisition). They are also one of the few rare 'organic success' in kpop to me. No association with tv show or program, no famous senior in their company, from nugu group, no famous member, not from survival show and no rapper cause they don't need it. A very unique group. Btw, thank you for your reaction. Please do more of their stuff!

Finally more people is knowing Gfriend aka GODfriend one of the top 3 gg of 3rd generation, the group with 6 main vocals and 6 amazing dancers👑, it's sad you couldn't hear them in their best cause all of them said on bubble they had a flu when recorded this, specially yuju and sowon ( the ones at each corner) they had pharyngitis, if you want to hear more of their amazing vocals hear rough, three of cups and TFTMN complete, also Room of mirrors, sunrise, etc. Actually all their discography, even the japanese are masterpieces 😌💜💙🤍

Gfriend has more than 100 songs including their Japanese song and it's good to you, you have plenty of new songs to enjoy and for me I like all their songs. If you like real instrumental, retro, orchestra, Melancholic, guitars rock/riff, harmonization, great vocal etc. Gfriend is that girl group. Btw Gfriend will have a new album and come back on January 13th next year to celebrate their 10th year anniversary. The members said their new song will have their old distinct sound which is retro, orchestra, melancholy kind of sound. I'm excited and I hope you will be there to enjoy it with us

Gfriend has some of the best instrumentals in kpop! Esp their strings. You can try check out 'Rough' or 'Time for the moon night', these two songs represents Gfriend's signarure sound 'Orchestral-pop'. Also yeah that b-side song 'Rainbow' with the electric guitar in the intro, such a good song!

GFRIEND sejatinya adalah group idol wanita besar, cuma karena ada suatu hal dengan labelnya yang membuat mereka bubar. Saya bisa mengatakan kalau labelnya itu besar karena mereka berenam. Mereka berbeda dari group idol korea lainnya dimana mereka memliki karakter musik berbada dari idol kpop pada umumnya. Mereka lebih mengarah ke karakter musik Jepang setahu saya karena koreografi mereka lebih cepat dari transisinya dibandingkan dengan idol wanita lainnya di Korea Selatan.
