Mamamoo is the REASON there IS a "Killing Voice", they were the FIRST. And it's one of the reasons it's so short. Before them it was The "Killing Verse" and featured ONLY Rappers. Speciffically "The Killing Voice" exists because of Solar. SOLAR(w/Mamamoo) wanted to join 'Killing Verse' but WASN'T accepted. So Dingo Music created 'Killing Voice' and Called MAMAMOO. Their video currently has the most Killing Voice views... we need a second one. LOL

This is a good example of why Mamamoo have been kpop's female vocal gold standard for the last 10 years and it's only the tip of the MMM iceberg, just a few of their hits and favorite b-sides between 2014 and 2020 when the vid was filmed. Because it is all about branding and image ... same reason you will soon see "fans" throw millions at AI generated garbage, just because there is enough marketing money behind them. That said, maybe Mamamoo are so unique BECAUSE they were picked up by a very small label that didn't have the budget to "mold" them into the stereotypical k-pop girl-idol, and they were forced to figure out a lot of things on their own, which also gave them the freedom to be as unusual as they are...I mean the list of "controversial firsts" done by Mamamoo is pretty substantial and because they didn't have a company behind them trying to ensure their multimillion dollar investment into a "product" wouldn't offend anyone, they pretty much got to do what they wanted... I think the fact that they are one of the girl groups with the biggest female fandom ratio clearly underlines this as well...They were not turned into someone's f**kfantasy to appeal to the male demographics but instead recognised for their actual talent! They are BY FAR the most talented group of individuals that has graced the k-pop scene!

I'd really recommend checking their solos out especially my favourite, SOLAR (2nd from left) Leader of Mamamoo, born in 21st February 1991. She has released a variety of songs covering so many genre making her the most versatile one in Mamamoo. She has 2 mini albums and a singles album, 'Face' 'Colors' and 'Spit It Out'. Apart from that she has a series of remaking old songs and introducing it to the new generation called 'Solgam' aka Solar gamsung aka Solar sensitivity which has 7 parts to it currently. Apart from albums and projects, she has more songs in form of collaboration and osts. OSTs ranging from drama like 'Vincenzo' to Music Variety shows with 'Image 5:52' and 'Paradise' being my favourite. She also has her own youtube called Solarsido, where she takes on varied challenges (she's amongst the og idol youtuber). Apart from that she also stars in Musicals, she was the main pead in Matahari 2 years back and this year performed as Esmeralda in Notre Dame de Paris (check out her Bohemienne and Last Song from Matahari, my favourite) So when you're watching her sing in that powerful tone, I'll make you aware she's improved MUCH MUCH MORE now. You're in for a ride cause you'll soon find out how they all are so different and how they just MORE than just being a Vocal group.

Moonbyul, Solar, Wheein & Hwasa The MAMAMOO members are among some of the most-credited idols in K-Pop as of Jan 2024 - Moonbyul actually has the most songwriting credits of all 3rd generation female idols at 119(2nd most credited famale artist overall... Yoon Mirae at 141), since she writes her own raps(and more) in almost all of the group’s songs. As well as contributing to the songwriting in many of them as well. - Solar has 41 credits to her name. She wrote the lyrics and composition for her solo song, “Spit it Out”. Composer on "Honey". - Hwasa has 47 credits. The lyrics to her solo song, “María”, were praised for its inventive and meaningful wordplay. Whats interesting about mamamoo is that their songs are actually rather low in key compared to their mid 2010s contemporaries (they of course can belt and head voice like crazy) but the mid 2010s was kind of dominated by very feminine, very airy, very cutesy concepts so the songs generally were all like camelot score 8 and above. Mamamoo songs are much lower. It definitely made them stand out (along with their vocal talent) at the time

To get something like Mamamoo in the Western World, you'd have to put Britney Spears, Christina Aguileira, Brandy, and P!nk together as a group, then tell Pink, since her voice isn't _quite_ as good as the other three, she _must_ become the group's rapper (EVERY KPOP group has to have a rapper, you see!)...and then Pink (understanding the genre pretty well) writes her own lyrics and knocks it out of the part, picking back up as a vocalist (via solo releases) later.

Mamamoo is my favorite group with Solar being my favorite singer anywhere. Yeah when you think you have heard the best of the best vocals and discover mamamoo and hear the next level up. They were told from their beginning because they not attractive like the typical kpop model for idols they must be the best singers and focused on extreme vocals and live performance. They really can sing that well live and all the way to the end of 4 hour concerts. They work for this near goddess level vocals. They practice a lot, including doing very physical things like lift weights or lunge and other actions to ensure the can sing that well and powerfully during any sort of performance. There is a video of Solar doing despacito a cover in spanish, live and after 11 minutes of singing and dancing, she ends it with those unbelievably powerful belts perfectly done while hanging from a pole with one hand and the mic in the other. So yeah next level singing talent but practice practice practice, they probably practice more than anyone really. Every song is from great to unbelievable. Between albums, solos, OSTs, covers and collabs they actually release 25+ songs every year. Solar especially has a whole lot of covers on her Solarsido youtube, one of the best franki vallie covers and michael jackson, even a capella versions of Imagine dragons Believer, I'll never love again, even her doing that last song Aya a capella solo. For really odd, one of their best displays of vocal talent is them singing a Pikachu song dressed as pokemon as well as them doing their own um ah oh yeh(worth seeing the MV) but they do it all acapella with a guy from vromance providing a beatbox. They have an MV and they do it live.

In case no one pointed it out before : "I miss you" is B-side from early in their career. For any other group this would be their flagship... however for the ladies of Mamamoo it's just another Tuesday. The rapper is in the top 20 of Korean artists with the most writing credits not just of her generation but ever, making her the only female in the top 20. Whereas the 4 members combined are the girl group with the most writing credits of any girl group in Korea ever.

I stumbled on this by accident, and I am *so* glad I did! I didn't know Killing Voice existed until now, but when I saw that you were reacting to Mamamoo, I just had to watch. I started listening to Kpop back around 2 years before Mr Ambiguous came out, and Girls Generation and 2NE1 were my fave groups at the time. From the minute that song came out, I've been a Mamamoo fan nonstop. Other groups come and go, but like 2NE1, Sistar, Super Junior, Red Velvet, and a handful of others, they have a sound that doesn't necessarily pigeonhole them to a specific era of Kpop, so even when they take a break, their music doesn't get old because there's something for every mood and style of fan. Not to mention their vocals and choreo are *on point* every single time, and their visuals are always incredible. Really, there's pretty much nothing to fault with them and I completely agree with your reaction XD

(debuted in 2015) They won the 2nd prize among 6 girl groups [Mamamoo, Park Bom(2NE1), (G)I-Dle, Lovelyz and AOA] in Queendom, the Korean survival contest in 2019. To make a long story short, their music is represented by Dreamy and Cheerful. The members are as follows; Hyojung(leader, lead vocal), Seunghee(lead vocal), Yubin(vocal), YooA(vocal), Arin(vocal), and Mimi(rapper, lyric writer). to answer your question, yes. you should always have your subs on when you're listening to mamamoo song. they write a lot of their own lyrics, moondbyul in particular. regardless of songwriting credits though, they have a lot of input in their work, be it stylistically, musically, or artistically (music videos, album covers, etc). this group has the most genre-diverse discography i've ever heard, and knowing what they're singing about in their music will just elevate your experience.
