dude thas a serious fireplace to be proud of. well done man, quite the achievement. i cannot wait to see it all finished. call me crazy, but when you build the next installment with the smoker, you could seriously consider a hinged wooden door to open or close the smoking area. wouldnt get hot enough to burn and could give you a better smoke too.
@AlexDoes3 жыл бұрын
Hinges yeah no worries...off the hinge tree, the one next to the concrete tree lol....but yes a wooden door is coming, and given that I'm filming 4 weeks in advance quite possibly already done😉. Thank you for your kind words.

Hello Alex.. the new axe looks great with it's protective mask.. brilliant idea too (making sure your Axe doesn't get sick). The archway on the fireplace looks good. I'd cover over also the Arche's branches there with clay, it'll add another structural-benefit for the arch (just in case of crumbling or cracking). Your coming right along nicely with the whole project (considering your the least educational Creator on KZbin.. j/k). Cheers!
@AlexDoes3 жыл бұрын
Not a bad idea John. I'll play it by ear but covering the vines with clay could be a good option. Just so long as you don't learn anything in the process OK, I wouldn't want to risk appearing educational at all lol. Cheers mate.
@johnsaucerhunter3 жыл бұрын
@@AlexDoes I don't want to go against your 'tag-line'.. but the risk of appearing educational has already happened... As much as I have tried to resist, I keep learning 'stuff' from you. Sorry.. I'll work on that (maybe my mask will help?)

Mate the fireplace looks awesome! Great idea using the vines as a prop, I reckon it will hold up for sure. Cool to see the new axe, hope it works for you. Spot on about thinning the handle and the steel being softer than GB, though it's a bit easier to sharpen on the fly. Good stuff mate!
@AlexDoes3 жыл бұрын
Cheers Kurt, maybe a little of that axe-ology is sinking in then lol. Cheers mate.

Love it - great use of second hand masks! The Hults Bruk looks great. Fireplace arch is looking fantastic - I'd love to see how it handles a few loaves of bread on one of the coming weeks?
@AlexDoes3 жыл бұрын
Thank you, yes I'd love to have a crack at making bread at some point. I did do pizza a while back which was great but now the fireplace is closed in more I think it would work even better for bread loaves....

G'day Alex, yep she'll hold up I reckon, the previous stonework is good evidence that the clay holds together well. Maybe a bit of a maintenance render if any cracks appear over time. It did get pretty shaky down here last week, but hey, we don't get that every day. Nice chopper mate. Cardboard and duct tape work quite well too. Don't forget the ol' boiled linseed oil once you shave down the handle. Cheers Duke.
@AlexDoes3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the vote of confidence Duke lol. Yeah I got the shake a bit here too but not as much as down south. I reckon the cardboard and duct tape would work great. Of course I have to consider the 'KZbin Aesthetics" haha....cheers mate.

@@AlexDoes Mate, I was sitting in the garage at the time of the quake, thought the bloody roof was gonna come down, lol, quickly realised what it was, since it couldn't have been anything else, got outside and experienced some weird vertigo through the ground. I have made a mask, a few belt loops and such out of old leather products, the most notable being and old guitar strap, but when you need one quick, as you found, you just need something, anything, to avoid a bad outcome. Even leather off cuts are not particularly cheap to buy and unless you live close by to an outlet, you order online, sight unseen. Once you have the leather though, not difficult.
@AlexDoes3 жыл бұрын
@@eyeofthetiger4184 yeah I'll probably make something more substantial at some point. Another thing to add to the list. As for the quake I was only able to feel it because I was in my motorhome and it started swaying. I thought it was wind at first and looked outside but no wind.
