Hey mate,loving the vids, any good ideas for hiding the roof off such builds from google sat so she blends in? Faced with same task on the one I’m building atm
@AlexDoes2 ай бұрын
@timeisnow9855 cheers mate. I think if you want to hide from satellites, your best bet would be a military ghillie net or natural foliage from the surrounding area.

Alix. Great video. I've replaced the capacitor and it still has a problem restarting. Often a good bang in the side of the cabinet will get it going, or I have to wait for it to get cold. Any thoughts?

Excellent job, serious graft using hand tools as well. My one nit pick is how the land is higher on the fire place side and it also looks to be on a slight slope which will shed water straight onto the side of the hut. I'd probably spend a bit more time and build up the floor so it's all higher than the surrounding ground level. Great hut and impressive using hand tools with the old timers techniques
@AlexDoes3 ай бұрын
@Antipodean33 yeah the ground is sloped. I did dig a drainage gutter around the base to avoid water ingress. Building the level up would have been better but much harder work.

When doing wattle and daub, you should add straw AND manure to the mud. Any dry grass will do and cow manure is good, if you could not find cow manure, well... have another curry and see how you go.

I've seen a lot of people use all sorts of methods to put lugs on cables and this has to be one of the most cumbersome and clumsy ways I've seen yet. Here's a tip for anyone needing to do this: Start by buying quality, flared end, lugs. The flare does two things: it makes it ridiculously simple to fit the cable and it adds a bit of strain relief by eliminating that sharp transition at the end of the lug. Your fingers and cables will thank you, plus you'll be able to fit a lug in seconds.

If you're concerned about discharging the capacitor you should also be concerned about the charge in the new one. Mine had nearly 1V across it when delivered. You don't need to make up a special lead for this, just a 1K resistor with alligator clip leads. Leave it on for a minute and you're done.

The stuff that comes from the trees/ out of the side of the trees in the rain is sap. And the bird call is a cockatoo, it possibly sounds like black cockatoo to me.. well sounds the same as the black cockatoos that come and sit in my trees and drink from the bird bath nearly every evening

Wow, great effort. I have watched a few builds before, but they were all Northern Hemisphere with lots of straight soft wood available. Aussie bush is much tougher with hardwoods. Thanks for posting.

Hello, love the work and creativity expect this Basecamp shack to be enjoyed for many years to come 💪🏻👌🏻 always wanted to build my own shack or cabin been in Australia for a year now got another 3 so still time. Where are the best areas of land to do it and can I legally just walk into the bush and build a cabin out of the way without speaking to local councils? Be great if can get a response please
@AlexDoes11 ай бұрын
Hey mate, thanks for watching. In NSW, you're generally okay to do this in State Forests without asking permission. They allow camping anywhere so long as you don't cut down any standing wood or remove wood from the forest without a permit. You're not allowed to do this in any National Parks. Cheers, Alex.
