@OculusVector11 ай бұрын
@@marianmoses9604 For Authenticating an Iron cross there are several different methods, as my understanding is they are made from several different pieces, versus being just one solid piece of metal. As for patches, you can easily test the threads, often times there is an aging to the cloth material, a patina if you will that can only happen over long periods of time. Patches were often sewn in with a tan cotton backing. Authentic patches also will not glow or fluoresce under a black light.
@OculusVector11 ай бұрын
@@marianmoses9604 I couldn't agree more. Thankfully I have a line on a dealer here in my area who only trades and deals with reputable merchants. He often hits the WWII shows in Europe and Germany. Many of the Nazi Iron Cross's also had a certain Hallmark on the back, however some did not have one at all. I was able to do the paper test on my Iron Cross, and additionally have the clasp itself authenticated. I don't blame anyone for scrutinizing before purchasing. Its simply a good necessary practice these days.

When I was around 13, my family and I moved into a new house and there was a locked room in the basement... We lived there for at least 5 years and no longer could I resist the urge to break the padlock off and see what was in it ( the landlord had asked us to stay out but why didn't he just take the stuff with him?). Anyway, inside was a bunch of old stuff, things I vaguely remember, a lot of old brass knick knacks, and then there was some Nazi stuff - a hat, small medals and badges... no weapons. smaller ephemera. This was over 20 years ago and sadly, I was nowhere near as savvy, as I am now, so I didn't sell the stuff and without an internet connection, I couldn't easily "google" what I had, nor take any pictures. I know the landlord's name (he passed, some years ago) and know that his grandfather was a Nazi soldier but never knew the details.

@joeschmidt48584 жыл бұрын
your absolute correct , most all awards have recorded history and documentation , every soldier had a soldt book that he carried on his person where every award ,promotion infractions where they served , what front how long under who etc etc , high level awards were also noted in these books in addition to further documentation in the paper trail back to the headquarters of where the award originated and who made the recommendation, a knights cross with oak leaves and or diamonds would have an intense paper trail , and that documentation or the soldiers copy of it often went back to their families, i would venture there are very few for sale that have actual documentation hence the prices are extremely over inflated and would make me question of just how authentic some of this stuff actually is , but thats my opinion

Party pooper here. Sorry to piss on chips but: The wreath on the German cross is wrong on two counts. 1. It doesn't reveal enough of the vermilion colour under the inside circumference. 2. The date 1941 has no dimples. Also the backing plate to the swastika should be a dull silver finish & the back plate of the piece has no makers number. It has solder splash marks too. No German jeweller would have allowed this to pass inspection. It is interesting that he warned you to be cautious if the piece is too cheap, or too expensive. I have owned identical reproduction pieces with the tell tale solder splash on the backing plate. It is wrong of him to fool people this way, for large profits like that. The Knights cross was also quite unconvincing in it's overall appearance.
