The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio was an instant hit in the supersaloon world upon release, and with its wonderful motor combined with outstanding character and brutal performance, its not difficult to see why. So let's take to the streets in what is about the closest you can get to a four door Ferrari experience this side of a Maserati Quattroporte, and see just how lovely the Giulia can be in practice...

Nice commentary and a fair assessment of this awesome vehicle. As a QV owner I can safely say I have never been more impressed with a car in my life. Brutal and sedate. Aggressive yet beautiful. I love that I can drive it according to my mood and not have that mood dictated to me. If I want a comfortable cruise, stick it in "Normal" (or EF) and gears in full auto and just sit back and relax. If you fancy a blast around the backroads in a moderately safe (safety systems "on") but playful and tuneful way than plop it into "Dynamic", use manual shifting with the paddles and you'll have a hoot feeling the car's sheer eagerness to rocket you between the corners with an orchestra of crackles. If you're happy to sit closer to the seat of your pants and work with the very gentle slip as the back breaks out with a heavy foot, you can have oodles of fun in "Race". It doesn't bite hard. Or if you just want to make some bubbly noise driving through town! (But steady on, there; we Alfa owner's must not be hooligans). So far my QV has been the most reliable car I have owned in 30 years. One early issue quickly fixed and then smooth, trouble-free driving ever since. No popping error codes; no unexpected bits wearing out; no annoying squeaks and rattles. And even servicing via a service contract is nicely affordable. My main gripe: The brakes. Supremely confidence inspiring (arguably a little numb) at pace but aggravatingly sensitive around town. My concern: If the engine needs something serious doing to it then you know you will be looking at a substantial 4 figure sum to sort it out. There is SO much engine stuffed under the bonnet and no space for mucky fingers that apart from refilling your fluids, home repair looks largely out of the question. But overall, what a car! WHAT A CAR!

What an excellent review! You have plainly done your research and have encapsulated, in a few short minutes, exactly what this car is all about. I have owned one of these since April 2017 and am currently on 44,000 miles and considering buying another one, because the world is gradually becoming a duller place, and we need to celebrate this sort of thing before it disappears altogether. My Quad is an early car, just like the one you have been trying, and it did have some software issues and appropriate updates in its first few months. Check engine lights were a common feature in the early cars, which were of course the cars that the press all received, but the updates, and in some cases wastegate electrical harness extensions soon resolved those really quite minor problems. A very few early cars also suffered a more major problem of water getting into the main ECU connectors, which on occasion required engine out and complete wiring harness renewal, but they were rare and only required a slight re design of the windscreen scuttle to prevent the problem from affecting a larger number of vehicles. All 2017 cars should have the new scuttle fitted(although it's always worth checking) after which they were factory fitted anyway. Since then very little goes wrong with these cars. New cars since 2018/19 I think, come with a 5 year warranty. Mine only had 3 years but I've run it for the past two years without any warranty because I trust it... What more can I say!! Good car!

I own an early model QV have loved every minute of it! Little to no issues at all with the car. You don't see many on the road so I love that it is unique. One word of caution however is in race mode, all the nannies are turned off and you can easily have this car sideways in a hurry! Treat this car with some respect and you will have the time of your life.

I concur. I got on my in race mode on a CITY street and had a real "moment" fishtailing between parked cars on both sides! I was bracing myself for what I thought was an inevitable "CRUNCH" of metal on metal, but with feet OFF the power and brakes, that chassis handled it and I was able to steer out of it, but that was a little too close for comfort....

Great review. I love mine which I use as a daily driver. 9k miles from new and no issues. 22mpg typical. I'd echo that keeping the battery juiced up is key to avoiding 'gremlins' with this car. Engine, as commented, is a sensation and feels unburstable. Steering, handling and comfort all measure up and I use the paddle shifters all the time. Except in queues. They are truly an exclusive car and I rarely see another on the road - unlike M cars and RS's which you see all the time, every journey. Considering the love portrayed on youtube for these cars, I'm very surprised there are not more about but I'm kind of glad of that in a way. Maybe, like I was, people are still unsure about Alfa's and their dealerships. I've had no issues with either so I'm very glad I took the plunge.

You would certainly be forgiven for buying the M6 over the QV but which one would you feel more special to own? And which one would more people comment on when you pull up for fuel or park in the pub car park? There aren't many Giulia's on the roads, and even fewer QV's, so you are guaranteed a head-turner in one of those. But my advice would be to buy one second hand. You lose so much in depreciation over the first 3 years (about £30k) making a 3-4 year old model an absolute steal at £30k-£40k.

@@barrynevison9472 Ah, but keep in mind, the M6 isnt made anymore. In my case Im considering a single owner supreme spec M6 Comp. There are 16 M6 Comps in the UK in total and the price for it is about the same as the cheapest QV. Both are special for different reasons.

Own a GIULIA QV since a few years. NO Issues just regular oil changes. It is a Superb car for relax drive or for "wild" driving. I have the carbon ceramic brakes and I was careful about driving it the first time I drove the car. However, I very quickly got used to it, and never had any problems. I tell my friends to be soft on the brakes before they drive it for the first time. With that knowledge, they have no issue with the brakes even for driving in slow traffic. These brakes are really really good. This is an INCREDIBLE drivers car (And it has two rows of seats for adults). What else can a driver ask for ?

@@HSGAutomotive Nothing exciting Mike. It's a 2010 Alfa 159 Sportwagon 1.9 JTD that I bought by accident (long story) with 250,000km and it thinks it a Toyota. Freaks me out. 12 years old and has never left me on the side of the road and absolutely everything single thing still works, no squeaks, rattles or clunks. Goes way better than the 1.9 diesel badge implies. Still pulls like a train and makes a great long distance bitumen muncher here in Oz. Black sheep of the Alfa reputation it seems. 🤯 I got it for half pice with the intention of flipping it and now I'm so impressed with it I'm looking to upgrade to a 2.4 JTD Ti. Lucky for me they carry the Alfa stigma and are way undervalued making for great buying. 😁

Love mine. Used to daily drive it but now it's more like a 'fun' and road trip car. Must say I really liked your way of reviewing. Mostly the electrical issues start from the battery. It really has to be in top shape. Daily driving wasn't a problem but now I don't drive a often and I keep it on the charger so problem solved. For the rest I had to replace the right rear shock absorber after driving through a deep hole 🕳️ 🤦. Still love mine and can't find any reason to replace it. Maintenance cost is fine for me but don't expect ford fiesta prices but i guess you know that. Just like you said. Best bang for buck on the market.

...well, I own a AR 159 SW Ti 2.4JTDm Q-Tronic for over 2 and a half years. When I bought it, it had approx 240k km on odo, for time of owning it I did additional 130k additional to it... so it is pretty close to 400k currently... First day I got it, after doing regular maintenance to the engine and gearbox (oil and filters), that's it... for all this time, this was only thing I did to it... well, not everything, I bumped power of the car from 200 to ~260hp, and it got nice boost to torque from 400Nm to approx 575Nm... and only modification that I did to it was aftermarket cooler for gearbox (since it is rated for 480Nm)... and as I said, for all this time, I had no issues what's so ever, from a car that is almost 15 years old... and I am not easy on foot with this one, love it, and cannot wait to sit in it for every single day I drive it... I am for manual, as you know @HGS, I do always say manual shifting is the king (especially in your Gran Turismo videos), but having a relaxed drive in auto is best thing out there... and of course, when I want, I just put lever into M and use those little shiny paddles on the wheel :) ...wish you could review Stelivo QV, I think this will be my next car (or some version of Stelvio) if I don't manage to find someone or me to DIY a SW from Giulia :D Cheers and keep it up...

Excelente prueba. Saludos desde Barcelona.

It’s a great car. I wish people would stop talking about Alfa and reliability. These are very well built cars with one flaw... The batteries are junk. This car is very sensitive to drop in voltage which causes check engine lights and causing the car to go into limp mode like many journalists have reported. Replace the battery with a AGM type battery and you won’t have anymore problems. AGM batteries are designed for the auto stop/start feature on new cars that are brutal on standard batteries.

I dislike the redesigned interior of the newer ones with the exposed cup holders, I prefer the cleaner look of the early cars and rarely use the radio anyway; just lower the windows and open the exhaust. I daily drive the white car and solved the electrical-power-hungriness issue with lithium-ion batteries on both. Other than battery drains, I haven't experienced any other problems. I do service the cars myself, and as a side note: the oil filter from the 488 GTB fits this engine... you draw your own conclusions ;)

Hi... Most interesting video, Cheers... Nice to see something from someone doing a "real World" video rather than just hooning around sideways on a track.... because everyone does that every day on the roads don,t they?!?... Anyways... I myself am the proud owner of a Competizeone Red QF and if I may add a few comments.. mine is a 2017 model and they sit slightly lower to the ground than the later cars and look a bit better as there isn,t such a gap between the wheels and wheelarches. I had a few minor electrical gremlins with my car such as occasionally the info screen would go blank, alarm occasionally went off for no reason in heavy winds or in the middle of the night which was a bit disconcerting to say the least.... and I did have the engine management light come on once about 18 months ago and again about 2 months ago after I had been ragging the car a bit.... I took the car to two different Main Dealers who told me there was nothing wrong with the car.. but someone recommended me to an independent Specialist NJS Cars in Pershore near Worcs... so I dropped in to see the chap there and he immediately said he knew what was causing ALL of my problems.... I sort of thought that might be too good to be true but he explained the electrical gremlins were caused by a software issue and this SHOULD have been rectified by Main Dealers under warranty... needless to say they hadn,t!!! And he advised the occasional engine management warning light was a fuel pump issue... in so much as early cars fuel pumps couldn,t cope with massive demand for fuel under certain circumstances.... I have read other reviews from people saying its caused by low fuel level in the tank... it isn't.. its fuel pressure related.... Anyways I booked my car in to NJS for replacement,upgrade fuel pump and associated gubbins, new Sprint air filter from some guys from Slovakia and thought I might aswell go for the Stage 1 remap ecu flash while I was at it.... they can programme exhaust flaps to open whenever you want aswell, but previous owner to me had already done that with a little key fob device that opens the valves when you feel like it. Car is now just absolutely mind blowing... quick is not the word... Its SuperBIKE fast.. 614bhp!!!! I haven't come across a Zonda to compare with or play with but its quicker than a mate of mine's McLaren!!!.. I have imported a Centreline mid exhaust section aswell and had that fitted by Supercar Rooms in Hartlebury... so it now sounds as good as it goes. But best bit as you say.. you can use the car as a Daily Driver and we can happily go away with luggage (and dog ) no problems at all.... Can do 30mpg plus on a cruise if you want or set your trousers on fire when you feel like it! Major belt service at around 30,000 miles will set you back about £1,000-£1,200 depending on what you need otherwise most service costs are comparable to other cars..... and at least hasn,t blown the gearbox up like my stupid Range Rover did recently!!!!!!! I have the carbon brakes and no issues... you get used to them after a while, Harman Kardon audio and the Sparco seats.....I have owned a variety of cars in my time including Ferrari's Lambo's, Porsche, AMG's, M4 Comp Beemer etc etc etc and I can honestly say the Alfa is as good if not better than pretty much all of them and just puts a smile on my face every time I drive it... and jus LOOK at them... Soooooooooo damn sexy! Best thing aswell is people will let you out at junctions and like to stop and have a chat.... I even got a thumbs up and a smile from a young lady yesterday which as an old fart made my day! Anyways... Hope my comments might help someone. And if you have any lingering doubts about owning one.. DON,T.... they are just utterly brilliant. Regards, Rog

You can spec Carbon discs on any of the cars as an optional extra... doesn,t matter which year or colour.. Oh. They are really rather good by the way! Regards. Rog

Is this better than the m3/m4? I'm considering this over the m3/m4 and I'm in the states. It's pretty hard to find but I only heard great things about the character of this car.. absolute amazing

Easily this bro, fantastic experience, reliable and the 2020 version goes with great colours, check the ocra yellow. Also there are some guys in states that can modifiy and tune it, if y want even more serious performance.

Jake (the dealership owner who was selling this one) would say so yeah. Far less slippery than the equivalent BMW's

How tall are you? How does the leg room feel?
@rogerpreece7762
@rogerpreece7762 3 жыл бұрын
I,m 6'2" tall, 16 stone..... plenty, plenty of room.... Only issue I have is if Wifey uses the car and forgets to put the Driver's seat back after she has used it, its a bit of a squeeze to get in until you actually DO move the seat back... but we got the carbon Sparco's in ours and there is plenty of adjustment, up/down, front/back, seat tilt etc.... most comfortable and supportive seats I think of any car I have ever owned... you can also adjust the steering column up and down AND in and out, which is a nice touch and very useful... Hope that helps.. Regards.. Rog
