Good work mate, i should have done this when i had a 3.2 Alfa GT, the shifting always felt shit even after a new clutch and replacement gearbox, i played around with the linkages and that gear selector ball joint to improve it a bit over time, if i knew i should have just got this kit like you did! Also good decision with the rubber boot, lots of stuff to remove to replace it “correctly”, i was going to consider replacing mine at the time if it wasnt such a pain and i couldnt source a boot cheap enough.
@LueysGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I've just left the rubber boot off for now since my hack didn't really work, it dislodged pretty quick. I think its better to leave if off than having the old worn out one potentially causing shifting issues. Will tackle this later if I'm working around that area again but definitely will try not to pull it all apart just for a rubber boot!

I drive a 156 2.5 liter and I don't like the long throw, so I was looking at short shifters. Did the difficulty getting it in gear after fitting get better over time?
@LueysGarage7 ай бұрын
It has gotten significantly better over time I have to say and I've done many track days now with the short shifter installed with 0 problems while shifting. You also do get more used to the throw and where the gears are over time. Definitely worthwhile mod that I'm not removing!
@AUDIDOIT4 жыл бұрын
I fitted one to my GT 3.2 and I found it really made the shift action worse and grainy. Granted it shortened the shift, but it lost the smoothness. So I took it off. Have you tried lubing your clutch lever shaft? Really helps with clutch weight pedal feel and engagement. :-)
@LueysGarage4 жыл бұрын
Yes I kind of agree that it makes the feel a bit different, takes a bit of getting used to and 3rd gear especially is tricky. I've lubed up my clutch quite a bit since my master cylinder was squeaking. It helps if I use the right lube hahahaha

@@LueysGarage Thanks! I indeed told myself a few times that it could have been shorter, so I'm curious to test this mod 😊
@LueysGarage4 жыл бұрын
@@997xTurbo completely agree...it should have been like this from factory. A few journalists rightfully complained about the shift and how it wasn't very sporty or positive. With this little mod you can change it to how it should have come out of the factory

I feel Im getting late to this topic but I recently got a hot GTA and the shift feels quite tight. I had to get changed the plastic connector between the lever and the cables that connect to the gearbox + the cables themselves, since the shifting just gave up. Now the shifting has improved, but it is still a bit erratic and when revving down or when stopped, gears wont enter first time. Is this normal on a stock GTA?
@LueysGarage Жыл бұрын
Have you got a short shift adapter installed? I never had any issues like that before. With the adapter installed 3rd gear can be a bit tricky to get in, might improve with adjustment but I never bothered
@javime9885 Жыл бұрын
@@LueysGarage As far as I know, shift is all factory. After having changed the cables that tend to decoy over the years, shift box's oil and the plastic piece right below the lever, improvement is there. But still some of the shifting is a bit irregular and feels cumbersome.
@Art_Vandelay_Industries7 ай бұрын
@@javime9885 I have the issue you're describing on my 156 2.5. 1st gear often doesn't engage the first time when the car is not moving and on the second try it goes in like butter. Have you ever found a solution for that? Is it possibly gear box related?
@javime98857 ай бұрын
@@Art_Vandelay_Industries I'm afraid I have not found any. It seems the gearbox on these models does only shine when revving higher. While shifting still may require double clutching or gearing 3rd (without lifting the clutch), before gearing 1st. All changes I got was a replacement of the white plastic stud at the bottom of the lever, plus change of cables (which may not be on top condition), since I once had the gear un-gearing while on 6th at 100km/h
