remember when you told me half a year ago to replace the doorskins on your car....told you then you have no idea what kind of work that is. So ... lesson learned....never underestimate a greasy finger 😁 cheers

Watching you doing your magic is like meditation. Many years ago I tried to restore a Fiat 850, ended up selling it in pieces. At least I learned where my limits are (pretty low, obviously). Keep up the fantastic work!

Hello from Toronto, Canada! I just wanted to say that I just started following your page and I love what you do. Your attention and care of details is amazing. Thank you for the english too! I have a Nuova Super and will need to put new door skins on the drivers side. I noticed you removed the door weatherstrip metal channels, are you leaving them out? I was thinking to leave them out on my doors. Much respect to you and keep up the great work!
@GreasyFingers4 жыл бұрын
Thank you, Anthony. So good to read that. Yes, I will leave the outer door seals away. I contacted people in a classic AR forum and it appears that that’s common practice for Giulia restorations.

I have just joined the club of your followers on KZbin. Very nice, detailed and methodical approach you have. Especially like the wooden mule solution. I guess it is so much easier with the body parts availability for the 105. I’m planning to start a restoration of a GTV6. There is almost nothing you can buy today and will need to fabricate most of it.
@GreasyFingers3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I’m much into GTV6, the car’s tempting me since two decades. Good luck for the project!

@@GreasyFingers Thanks. I don’t have much experience with metal shaping. Tried only once on a lorry. You don’t have much choice in Slovakia though. Nobody wants to get their hands dirty with bodywork. Even a proper paint shop is hard to find.
@GreasyFingers3 жыл бұрын
It makes me sad to hear that. I’ve come the other way and gave up my academic career to finally get my fingers dirty. I really do recommend to take the challenge and just get the GTV project started. Your learning curve will be steep.

@@GreasyFingers Same here. I’m also an “amateur” with a 9-6 office job. Working with hands, no matter if on cars or construction provides so much satisfaction. Especially if you have to deal with people all day long. I still remember times when craftsmen were highly common and appreciated. Society has changed in last 30 years very much. We teach our children that service oriented economy is more advanced than industrial or agricultural. No wonder most want to become managers or at least office plankton than mechanics, welders, plumbers or peasants.

Came for the Alfa; stayed for the metal shaping and forming lesson. If you don't mind sharing suppliers-it would be helpful to know of the specialized filler you used at the end of the video as well as info about the solder-different than lead-correct? Very cool to see the interior structure of the doors. Excellent work. Thanks!

Many thanks, Steve. The filler is Teroson 5010, the solder is Felder AG106 L-Ag34Sn AG134

Making good decisions about where to begin and where to end is an important thing with restorations. For a full door restoration, the metal works alone take about 40 hours per door. It’s enormous.

Hut ab. Alle Achtung. Respekt. Sehr Gewissenhaft deine Blecharbeiten.

I feel your pain blowing holes in metal🇨🇦
@GreasyFingers3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it used to kill me. In the meantime I know that the holes were a consequence of badly fitting repair panels.
@johnmorrow70803 жыл бұрын
First of all buy a panel , that hammer makes me cringe the sealer you are using looks like the old stile grey body sealer that's been around for years I would go for something like Sikaflex or a cheaper version use it to bond the skin to frame then when you have hammered door flange over mask a seam around the folded over skin and frame then seal the area , apart from that doing ok .
