Alfa Romeo Giulietta 1750TBi Veloce (2017) Driven - Alive With Emotion

It’s not often that you hear about a country which has its police force (Carabinieri) uniforms designed by top fashion designers such as Gucci and Armani. Welcome to the way of the Italian lifestyle! Welcome to the stylish family sensibility that is the Alfa Romeo Giulietta Veloce!
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta (Type 940) has been on the market from 2010 and while this may feel like an eternity in the ever changing automotive climate in which we live in, in my opinion, it is still one of the best looking family hatch designs ever. Its sculpted smooth edges, integrated rear door handles and teardrop coupe-inspired design make the Giulietta a piece of automotive artwork on the eye.
Previously known as the QV edition (Quadrifoglio Verde), the car in question, now branded the Veloce edition is Alfa Romeo’s take on the hot family hatchback ultimate battle-axe, the Volkswagen Golf GTI. Taking on the GTI is not an easy task, the Golf is a vehicle which manages to pack the best of space, practicality and grin-on-your-face motoring, so has the Alfa Romeo Giulietta managed to pull off the task? In my opinion, the answer is very much “Yes” and “No” and I’ll explain why.

Also, I had the Mito 1.4TBi and, I must be honest there is one thing that particularly bothers me when it comes to making the decision to go ahead and upgrade to this baby, and that's the fuel efficiency. I know from experience that switching from Natural to the Dynamic driving mode can have dramatic effects on the fuel levels and/or the estimated distance you can still cover within the amount of fuel on board. So much so that the gauge can actually be seen dropping slowly, bit for bit, given the right amount of time spent on an open and save road where the opportunity was there to drive a bit more "vigorously," if you will. ...But then again, I am haling from a country with an officially recognised Junk Status.

@Thordur Hogna Well, I would recommend it over most all of its contenders, yes, however, it's not the most practical option out of the bunch! Alfa's are brought out of emotion, not for their efficiency.

just got myself a veloce this week, i really wanted one with some clover rims but couldnt find them, still happy with the star? spokes though, going from a ford ute and a kia rio, wow grip that steering wheel during acceleration or it will jump off the road ;)

Man, you've gotta watch this in 1080p, I'm sorry! The review isn't half bad. Especially considering it's shot in the beautiful and scenic majesty which is Cape Town. Yeah, there are parts that can do with a lil' less talking and a lot more sound of the car, and yeah, the background music will have you contemplating suicide within seconds of giving it a bit of attention to detail... but! But!! You won't have to do that 'cause OMG what a magnificent hunk of glory this car truly is, I tell you. Golf-shmolf!! That shit's for boring old people who've given up on life. This car!! That's what it's all about. 3/5 from me

The same to be honest, the difference is just the nameplate. They both use the same 1.75 litre 1750tbi engine!

The QV has Cloverleaf alloys. The Veloce has some minor cosmetic changes around the grill.

What is 3rd party parts availability like for these cars in SA? I burnt my fingers with a Fiat, when a chip on the power steering went (cause let's face it, rust and electronics is where the Italians fall apart) - only option was a R30 000 steering column replacement from the dealers. Most other brands you can get 3rd party parts easily and affordably. Good looks and "emotion" can only take you so far - at the end of the day it is a car and for many, one that needs to get you from A to B reliably and affordably.

Hi Justin, to be honest, I have not had any personal experience with parts or maintenance with Alfa in SA. There are several owner forums online which discuss parts and suppliers, but I have not dealt with any personally.

New Giulia follows Alfa's modern design language. The Giulietta belongs to the previous generation styling, but remains very special

A Giulia Super is slower than a Giullietta Veloce and yet costs substanially more. Performance aside the Giulia is the better car, but it's a moot point if you can't afford one. I got a good deal on a new Giullietta. It's all the car I need and cost half as much as a Giulia Veloce.

@@realreviews4017 If you like your Mito, I'd say you would love a Giulietta. The only thing that I don't like about mine is the lack of interior storage. I also know someone whose had a 1.4 Giulietta for about 5 or 6 years without any major problems.
