Of all exotic motor cars of that era the Montreal was the only one I have ever truly wanted. Italian to the core, effortlessly stylish, fantastic engine, almost heroically impractical, expensive to run, exasperating at times but God it looks great.

My grandfather owns an ALFA Romeo Montreal, which still has the factory SPICA MFI. It’s a finicky and complicated system, but if it’s well maintained, it’s fine. Same goes for the Citroën Hydropneumatic system in my SM and Maserati Khamsin.

Great cars you own.

Hydropneumatic is pretty much problems free it certainly isn't high maintenance or requires constant adjustment.

Yeah, my grandad's Saturn-V is the same. Finicky, but maintain it right and one of these days Alex, straight to the moon!

Belissima!! Just goes to show that Alfa Romeo can make cars that can easily stir the soul, just like their contemporaries from Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati. The Montreal was indeed an unfortunate victim of circumstances outside of its creators' control.

They were a great car for sure. Those bloody pumps though really showed the motors heritage due to being very difficult to service. I believe however it was the inspiration for Toyotas best looking Celicas and the Mazda RX4 coup.

It is such a tragedy. The Montreal, today, is so blistering expensive. I would love to take one and build it just as it was intended with a mid-engine. But the prices make this idea totally unacceptable. Besides, it would be a shame to waste a good example of the Montreal as it is. Oh, and did I mention that this is one of my all time favorites in the car world, by far.
@Driftywiftypleb5 ай бұрын
Surely if you want a mid engine montreal, you would just have a fiberglass body made, and stick that on tubeframe chassis?

I had one for yrs (and many great trips) as well, a 73, # AR 10564 2001062, 3002 of 3825 built. I owned it 1983-1994, maintained it myself (never let me down), sold it b c finding parts became impossible. I now DEEPLY REGRET letting it go 😢😢

IMO the best looking car ever made, and I would hardly say its forgotten! It sold far more than any of the contemporary Lamborghini's did in that time period.

The Montreal to me is what happens when you ask an Italian to design/build an American muscle-car. It’s so nicely proportioned too!
@benzinapaul74167 ай бұрын
Great video but to say it was in the same category as the Miura, apart from some Gandini styling flourishes, is incorrect. The Miura was in a way higher category. The Montreal was up against the Porsche 911 2.2/2.4, the Fiat Dino 2.4, the Citroen SM and the BMW 3.0 CSi/L. The base model Merak 2.0, Ferrari 208 GT4 and the Lamborghini Urraco P200 were much more expensive.

always thought the Montreal was a beautiful car. plenty of wacky cars from that era most which, good and bad, were killed off by the oil crisis.
